Coolest. TV ad. Ever.

Tuesday, Jun 23, 2009 - Posted by Rich Miller

* This has nothing to do with anything, but I’m a big Rolling Stones fan and I’d never heard of this TV ad until Eric Zorn pointed it out today…

What’s your favorite TV ad of all time?

    hmmm

its a combination of Bob Dole adds, the first being for viagra, and the second being the exploding pepsi bottle right after Dole sees the hot singer performing.

  2. - How Ironic - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:34 pm:

I LOVED the old school Wendy’s “Where’s the Beef” ads.

  3. - wizard - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:34 pm:

Stohs beer with the beer fetching dog Alex being admonished “that better be your water you’re drinking Alex”. My brother actually had a lab that would deliver full cans of beer to people floating on rafts in the lake.

  4. - Ted Kord - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:44 pm:

The 1984 Macintosh commercial can’t be beat. Although I do like the Heineken “Share the Good” commercials. You know, the one where no one wants the Heineken, so they keep tying to give it away? But then that person tries to get rid of it, in a never-ending cycle of re-gifting?! LOL.

  5. - Anon - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:46 pm:

“Mama mia, that’s some spicy meata-ball!”

    ’nuff said.

  6. - Obamarama - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:54 pm:

Does the JBT/Ryan dancing ad count? Classic.

  7. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:55 pm:

    Of course it does.

  8. - Pat collins - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 12:55 pm:

The Wendy’s Ad with the Soviet fashion show.

    Is beach wear.

    Is evening wear.

(same woman with plain gray dress, no make up, with a beach ball, or flashlight)

Now, everyone thinks Russian women are hot :)

  9. - Northsider - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 1:13 pm:

All good ones. There’s also Stan Freberg’s classic Jeno’s Pizza Rolls spot and the “Cat Herders” from a Superbowl a coupletwotree-years back.

As for political ads, who can forget Mike Gravel’s classic “Walk Up To Camera. Stare. Toss Large Rock Into Pond. Walk away.” Ten minutes that no one who indulged will ever get back. Was that only a year and a-half ago?

  10. - Jake from Elwood - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 1:39 pm:

The dad looks alot like Jerry Lewis.
I like most of the GEICO commercials–who knew that a Warren Buffett owned business could show such creativity.

  11. - lake county democrat - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 1:44 pm:

“Drink Schlitz or We’ll Kill You” - the ad is credited with ruining the entire brand (though a manufacturing change which made it skunky after two months was the real culprit. It’s back now).

Seriously, the original “I’d Like to Buy a World a Coke” with the “Woodstock at dawn” feel to it.

  12. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 1:58 pm:

===The dad looks alot like Jerry Lewis.===

Pretty sure it is. Looks like What’s My Line.

  13. - Deep South - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 2:00 pm:

“I can’t believe I ate the whole thing.”

  14. - Kevin Highland - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 3:01 pm:

15 second spot….Panning a playground with children running playing and having fun. Fade to black. Show the Kool-aid logo. Voiceover “Kool-aid, we made it big for a lot of little reasons.”

  15. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 3:34 pm:

    Burger King commercials.
    The creeped out King.
    The wildly insane situations.

These commercials are just plain wrong. And great.

  16. - Stones - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 3:47 pm:

I always liked the classic Hamms Beer commercials “from the land of sky-blue waters”

  17. - Mountain Man - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 4:31 pm:

The Folgers Christmas ad when the son comes home is a great one (sappy, but very good); for pure funny though, the Wendy’s Russian fashion show mentioned above still makes me laugh when I think about it….

  18. - One of the 35 - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 4:42 pm:

The current Allstate ads are very well done. The theme is that hard times make us remember what is really inportant in life and worth insuring. “Put them…. in good hands”

  19. - Pale Rider - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 5:36 pm:

All the old Miller Lite commercials with the famous (and some not so famous) jocks like Bob Eucker. I must be in the front row!

  20. - Dr Kilovolt - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 6:07 pm:

The VW “Bubble Boy” teaser ad for the convertible Beetle still makes me smile at the end each time.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox655_y_S8Y

  21. - Bobs yer - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 8:21 pm:

Golf ads with Johnny Miller ( I think it was Calloway). All good, but the best fall-off-the -couch ad was Johnny with Alice Cooper. Cooper hits a putt short of the hole and Miller says “nice putt…Alice”

Only ran a short time…apparently some PC objections. If you’re not a guy and/or a golfer, probably means nothing to you.

  22. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Jun 23, 09 @ 10:59 pm:

The Pepsi ad on baseball games right now is way cool.

Old school MLB clips (Joe D, Jackie Robinson, Mickey Mantle) juxtaposed with current MLB clips, while Will.I.Am does his take on Robert Zimmerman of Duluth’s “Forever Young.”

That ain’t a song, folks. That’s the anthem to live your life by.

  23. - Frank Sobotka - Wednesday, Jun 24, 09 @ 2:01 am:

‘Thank you Easter Bunny! Bawk, Bawk!’
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m3eJxZEai0

  24. - Rod - Wednesday, Jun 24, 09 @ 3:35 am:

The Lending Tree ad (on YouTube) “I’m Stanley Johnson….I’m in debt up to my eyeballs…Somebody help me!”

  25. - Say WHAT? - Wednesday, Jun 24, 09 @ 11:57 am:

Bar none: The Four Eyes commercial

Older couple standing, wife trying on eyeglasses

Husband old, white haired, wrinkly, grumpy looking, complaining “CAN WE GO HOME NOW?”

As wife lifts glasses, husband becomes sexy young stud asking her “Can we go home now?” She saunters up to husband, places hands on his shoulders and answers in her sexiest voice “SURE” He looks bewildered.

Announcer says “Unless the glasses can do miracles, why pay any more for them”

    HYSTERICAL!!!
