So far, we got almost nothing. Langdon Neal’s optimism from earlier today didn’t pan out too well. Turnout wasn’t good in Chicago

“It was a very quiet day from start to finish,” said Langdon Neal, chairman of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

* Chicago Board of Elections’ website says city turnout was just 21.3 percent. [Board of Elections changed its result on that one, so I did, too.]

Boland leading after one precinct - must be a western Illinois precinct. Only 30 votes separating Quinn and Hynes. Not a good sign for Quinn.

  2. - babs - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 7:41 pm:

chicagoelections.com almost 50% of precincts are in.

  3. - In the Loop - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 7:41 pm:

Any idea on what order (if any) these results arrive in? What counties traditionally report early?

  4. - Jeff - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 7:41 pm:

Almost half of the city reporting already, and Preckwinkle is up big.

    Preckwinkle 46, O’Brien 23, Brown 16, Stroger 16.

  7. - Randall Sherman - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 7:43 pm:

I couldn’t help but notice that while the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners had counted more than 177,000 ballots as of 7:32 pm, the office of Cook County Clerk David Orr had counted a grand total of ZERO suburban Cook County ballots. Why am I not surprised by this latest display of Orr’s administrative ineptitude?

Orr must have heard my gripes… we finally have 1/6th of the suburban results in (as opposed to half of the city’s vote)!

Wow, looks like Rep. Bassi is down in flames in Palatine. Lets hope Kay Hatcher does the same, and we can put the evil of Lee Daniels behind us.

  16. - lake county democrat - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:09 pm:

County Board is like the 5th Congressional district — hardly anyone votes but those who do want reform.

  17. - Pat Collins - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:10 pm:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s odd how badly Coulson and Hamos lost their primaries? That they lost might not be a shock, but the margin (to me at least)

  18. - Boone Logan Square - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:17 pm:

Preckwinkle is swamping the field; with more than half Cook County’s precincts reporting, her margin is greater than O’Brien’s vote total. Dorothy Brown is in danger of falling behind Stroger.

The 10th is interesting. Coulson’s down by a lot on the Republican side and Dan Seals is doing well despite having to run a contested primary (against a legitimate opponent) after losing two general elections. Either race is close enough to flip before the night’s through (I don’t know which precincts have reported).

  19. - Pat Collins - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:20 pm:

With roughly 50% of the precincts in and Seals having a 1200 vote lead and Dold having 1700 vote lead, I dont see how that changes…..

  20. - Six Degrees of Separation - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:21 pm:

    A tale of two counties-

In Kendall, only 4,158 people bothered to vote. (w/100% of precincts in)

In La Salle, there are 5,893 ballots in, and only 37% in so far.

These are both counties of about 100,000 people. And Kendall has the highest foreclosure % in the state, so they all can’t be happy people. Maybe they are all out looking for work, or running from the bill collectors, instead of voting.

  21. - Pat Collins - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:27 pm:

In my precinct it was about a 10% turnout. And that with several hotly contested local elections.

    Sad, but there it is.

  22. - babs - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:37 pm:

Toni never had a negative commercial. O’Brien lost points with seniors in my area when he did. Several people have told me they changed their vote after his commercial.
