Live-blogging the results, Part 2
Tuesday, Feb 2, 2010 - Posted by Rich Miller * 8:39 pm - OK, let’s cut through some of the clutter and look at a few interesting races. In the 10th CD GOP race, Bob Dold has a huge lead over state Rep. Beth Coulson, 38-29, with 66 percent of the vote counted. And third-time Democratic candidate Dan Seals is leading state Rep. Julie Hamos 49-45. Toni Preckwinkle has the Cook County Board President’s race wrapped up. She’s got 48 percent of the vote with 70 percent counted. Dan Hynes better hope he has a ton of support downstate and in the suburbs because the Chicago and Cook County results really hurt him. With 41 percent of the vote counted, Gov. Quinn leads Hynes 53-27 (about 23,000 votes). Andy McKenna is leading on the GOP side with 40 percent counted…
As Downstate votes are being counted, Scott Lee Cohen has moved up in the Democratic lt. guv race. This is with 36 percent counted…
Sen. Matt Murphy has a 12-point lead over Jason Plummer, but Plummer has been closing a bit. Democrat David Miller leads Raja Krishnamoorthi in the comptroller’s race, but only by a bit…
Robin Kelly has a big 58-42 lead on Justin Oberman in the Democratic treasurer’s race. What else are you seeing? …Adding… Former Senate Democratic staffer Elgie Sims is losing badly to incumbent Cook County Commissioner Bill Beavers. Beavers leads with 20,234 votes to Sims’ 16,354 with about 80 percent of the vote counted. I can’t see how he makes up those votes. *** 8:54 pm *** Hamos is closing fast…
Dillard is also closing…
* 9:04 pm - Rep. John Fritchey won by a huge margin in the 12th county board district…
* 9:06 pm - Hynes is closing a bit with 64 percent counted…
So is Dillard…
As Downstate votes come in, Scott Lee Cohen is pulling away. He’s ahead of Rep. Art Turner 26-23. David Miller and Raja Krishnamoorthi are just 5400 votes apart (Raja leads). * 9:18 pm - Close, but McKenna is still holding on…
* Plummer is closing fast…
* My interns are in Chicago. Barton is with the Quinn campaign and filed this little crowd-shot video… Dan is at the Hynes campaign party… * Dillard is pulling closer to McKenna. He’s now just 2700 votes behind with 77 percent counted. Percentage-wise, they’re tied at 20. Also, Bill Brady is just a few hundred votes behind Dillard. He’s also at 20 percent. Sen. Matt Murphy’s lead is now just 5,000 votes, with 77 percent counted. * Rep. Beth Coulson has conceded in the 10th GOP CD race. * 9:34 pm - Rep. David Miller has moved ahead of Raja Krishnamoorthi in the comptroller’s race with 80 percent counted…
With 80 percent of the vote counted, Hynes has not budged the margin…
Alexi Giannoulias is maintaining a 5-point lead over David Hoffman (39-34). Plummer pulls ahead with 81 percent counted…
* Huge upset in the making in the 14th Congressional District primary…

- Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:43 pm:
My mailbox was filled with Cohen fliers the last few weeks. Perhaps that money was well spent.
- scoot - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:43 pm:
I’m just surprised at GOP voters in the Guv race. What are they thinking??
- Effingham County - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:43 pm:
Results are barely in, but Quinn is losing more than 2-1 in the county. Brady is the vote total leader, McKenna isn’t in the top three. Turnout was okay. The results from downstate won’t necessarily go along with those already in.
- bored now - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:43 pm:
everybody loves robin. and what’s not to love? experience, intelligence and integrity. congratulations to our next state treasurer…
- Amalia - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:44 pm:
Dan Burke only up 10 votes on Lozano. Madigan St. Rep. cand. in Ev. Park NOT in the lead.
- Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:48 pm:
Too bad for Elgie if that holds. He would have been a pleasnat change from Hog N***.

Any location info on the reported/counted precincts vs the unreported/uncounted ones?
- Anon - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:52 pm:
Quinn may be in serious trouble in the Metro St. Louis area. Madison County was not polling well for him there and St. Clair about the same.
- Amalia - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:52 pm:
now are we concerned about these Lt. Gov. results on the Dem side? partying like it’s 1986, god help us.
- foster brooks - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:52 pm:
republicans need to have a better turn out in the general to overcome dems.

If your an election lawyer out of work you might want to call Mr. Haster or Hultgren. Wow, that’s close.

Check out the tribs web coverage of the 9th state rep district. They don’t even know which Art Turner is running.
- wordslinger - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:58 pm:
Hynes is gaining. 51-49 Quinn with 60% in.
- Pat Collins - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 8:59 pm:
need to have a better turn out in the general
At 32% for the Governor’s race, hard to dispute that.
House 54, 86% in, Bassi is losing by 10%.
House 50, 42% in, Hatcher only leads by 140.
Looks like a looooongggg night for Personal Pac, esp with Coulson going down.
- Pre - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:01 pm:
Does anybody have a site with the entire state map so we can see where outstanding votes are?
- Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:02 pm:
Hynes has good margins in Sangamon, Logan, Montgomery, Christian-60/40 or better. Unfortunately, not a lot of votes behind those stats. He’s probably up only about 3000 votes in those counties.
- Anonymous - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:05 pm:
Look at the Julie Hamos race. She’s 600 back with 19 precincts out.
- Boone Logan Square - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:05 pm:
Preckwinkle is delivering her victory speech. Says the other candidates have telephoned their concessions.

@bored now - I couldn’t agree more.
- lurker - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:07 pm:
Burke / Lozano is close, and what the heck is up with the 3-way tie in Evanston for Julie H’s seat.
- GOP4EVER - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:08 pm:
what the heck is going on in the Cook County Suburbs, no GOP results yet?
- foster brooks - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:09 pm:
not 1 tax increase has passed in northwest il
- Wumpus - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:10 pm:
foster brooks, when people start seeing the $20 increase in voter registration and other fee hikes, people will vote for the GOP. I can’t beleive Blowhard and McKenna are winning. How can Hynes not be winning by 15%? He is in a tight race to Blago’s running mate who is planning to increase taxes!
- Downstate - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:14 pm:
Williamson County is finished counting. Republicans had 52 percent of the ballots versus 46 percent for the Dems, which is better than normal.
Brady carried the Republican field with 45 percent of the vote followed by Dillard and Adam A. McKenna came in sixth (I guess voter still remember his remarks about our state financed baseball stadium a few years ago). GOP voters also picked its neighboring U.S. Senate candidate, giving Don Lowery 52 percent of the vote.
Quinn beat Hynes here 51-48.
- Oakparker - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:16 pm:
No one has commented yet, but Cby about 475 votes for State Central Committeeman. ook County Commissioner Moreno is losing by 2,000 votes to Garcia; and Ricardo Munes is beating Tony Munez
Lozano is down by 60 votes to Burke with 6 city precincts out. Anyone have an explanation about this area?
- Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:18 pm:
Wumpus: Dems know that Quinn and Blago were not running mates by choice, and Hynes will be raising taxes as well.
- Bill-O' the Clown - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:20 pm:
Any candidate serious about addressing the budget knows that a tax increase is part of the solution.
- IS - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:21 pm:
I have not watched Chicago local news in about two years
Watching NBC Chicago right not. Dick Kaye must be so sad–it has devolved to cable access at it worst.
I think Mary Anne Ahern just called talking to a very weird looking Bill Brady on Skype as “soooo cute”.
- ANON - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:22 pm:
Looks like the GOP Gov polls were pretty accurate. Razor thin margin between McKenna, Dillard, and Brady….Ryan fading to fourth.

- Angry Chicagoan - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:25 pm:

- Boone Logan Square - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:25 pm:
According to the Sun-Times, Dillard has a 34-vote lead over McKenna with 76% of precincts reporting.

Looks like I dumped my Brady literature wayyyy too early tonight!
How bad is it for Ryan that’s he fighting Adam A for 4th??
- WOW! - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:39 pm:
I just checked with their web page and 50% of dupage isn’t reporting yet so I don’t know that Brady lead will hold.
- Pat Collins - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:40 pm:
Stroger is conceding.
Amazing thing there is, that Preckwinkle might get 50% of the vote in a 4 way primary! That’s got to be unusual.
- TaxMeMore - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:41 pm:
Tazewell County just gave Brady a huge boost with 94 of 130 precincts in. Brady 4,731 - Dillard 1,406 - McKenna 880. Brady could pull ahead when the rest of downstate comes in.
Hynes 1,609 - Quinn 1,582.
- Ravenswood Right Winger - Tuesday, Feb 2, 10 @ 9:42 pm:
If Hamos loses, that’s gotta be a big blow to Schakowsky, no?
