Garrett: Pat, I know that the $99 suit is part of your “charm,” but I can I bring you home to the folks in Lake Forest for a fundraiser with off-the-rack duds? Makeover time!

  2. - Montrose - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:53 am:

Sen. Susan Garrett looks on with admiration as Governor Pat Quinn treats the crowd to his stirring rendition of “Old Man River.”

  3. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:54 am:

“Oh, geez, what did I get myself into? He hasn’t even hired a campaign manager yet and it’s been almost two months since the election. And now he’s standing there rambling on and on about Lincoln and high speed rail and I can barely follow his train of thought. Hah. I made a funny. Oh, my feet hurt from standing so long. I really need some new shoes. Goodness, did you see his clodhoppers? Did he buy them in the ’70s? He needs a shopping advisor. OK, now I think I’m going to sneeze. Can’t rub my nose because I have to hold this pose. Live TV is such a pain. Why did I put that pepper on my tuna salad? It always makes me sneeze. Wow, my feet really hurt.”

  4. - amused - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:55 am:

Please, Dear Lord, don’t let him make me stay in a Super 8!

  5. - Downstate - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:55 am:

I hope he asks me to the cotillion. I’ll just die if he doesn’t!

  7. - Bill - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:58 am:

…and so after much deliberation I am withdrawing as a candidate for governor and throwing my dwindling support to Sen. Garrett who will then pick me as her running mate. This is in the best interets of my party and the Land of Lincoln.

  8. - Boone Logan Square - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 11:59 am:

Mom, Dad, isn’t she a lot nicer than that Milorad I used to go steady with?

  9. - frustrated GOP - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 12:00 pm:

Wonder if I can get farther then Corrine Wood? He really doesn’t look healthy.

“There She Is” by Bernie Wayne, enhanced by VanillaMan

    There she is, My Nominee!
    There she is, My ideal!
    The dreams of a million
    She better than Cohen
    From whom we have stolen
Oh she may turn out to be
    The queen of Hooey
    There she is, Susan Garrett
    There she is, political roulette
    With so many beauties
She’ll take each town by storm
With her honest face and form
    And there she is
    Walking on air she is
Fairest of the fair she is
    Susan Garrett!

“You poor, ineffectual little man. You’re quite a project I’m taking on. Let’s hope it’s worth my while.”

And Montrose, LOL. Quinn looks like he’s singing Old Man River in every picture I’ve ever seen.

  15. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 12:08 pm:

G: “Why did I stand in front? Stand in back, stand in back, then you can always slip out when he’s rambling like this. My feet hurt. This half smile is frozen. Now my neck is cramped. I’m going to faint. High speed rail? What? What is he yammering about that for? Create a diversion, create a diversion, then bolt….”

Oh God, if I could just pick out that one little hair coming out of his ear… Do you think anyone would notice? I can’t take it…Gotta stop looking at it.

“Pat, I’m not voting for that tax increase!”

  22. - MarineMan - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 12:34 pm:

“He can’t walk door to door in my district wearing a cheap suit, sweating so profusely, and rambling on about Super 8. That’s ok. I’ll just hire a look-a-like to do the door to door thing. Who would be a good stand-in?”

  23. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 12:35 pm:

  34. - Judgment Day Is On The Way - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 1:49 pm:

I let myself get hooked into this clown show, they give me a list of all the Super 8 motels in Illinois (Altamont, Le Roy, Peoria, Aurora, Lincoln, Pinckneyville, Benton, Litchfield, Pontoon Beach, Bloomington, Macomb, Princeton, Carbondale, Marion, Rantoul, Carlyle, Marshall, Rochelle, Champaign, Mattoon, Rock Falls, Chenoa, McHenry, Rockford, Chicago, McLean, Romeoville, Crystal Lake, Mendota, Salem, Dixon, Metropolis, Springfield, Du Quoin, Mokena, St. Charles, East Peoria, Moline / Moline Airport, Staunton, Effingham, Monee, Tuscola, El Paso, Morris, Washington, Elgin, Mount Vernon, Waterloo, Galesburg, Mundelein, Watseka, Gilman, Normal, Waukegan, Greenville, North Chicago, Willowbrook, Jacksonville, Okawville, Woodstock, Joliet, Olney, Yorkville, Kewanee, and Paris) where they are booking stops, and they actually expect me to STAY THERE!. Where are half these places? Are they actually in Illinois? I wonder how many of them have concierge service? My feet really hurt.

And he just won’t stop talking…..

  35. - siriusly - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 1:52 pm:

After 12 years in Springfield, Governor Pat Quinn helps Senator Susan Garrett achieve a milestone accomplishment for the very first time. Seen here, she is looking like the sane, rational one in the room.

  36. - Pickles!! - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 2:27 pm:

“Geez, at least the last Governor had better hair!” Susan Garrity says in one of those cartoon bubbles over her head as she looks at Quinn.

  37. - the Patriot - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 2:32 pm:

Sorry Rich, when I read what you wrote about Lincoln and rail, I looked at the picture and all I could think about was, “Governor I’d like you to meet the new sherrif of Rock Ridge.”

Go to youtube and search “Gov and Rock Ridge.’

  38. - Robert - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 3:11 pm:

Garrett wonders if she’s promised enough of her own millions to have Gov. Quinn pick up her dry cleaning in addition to giving her the LG seat.

  39. - Amalia - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 3:37 pm:

It’s not that easy being green.

It seems you blend in with so many other ord’nary things.
And people tend to pass you over ’cause you’re
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water
    or stars in the sky.
But green’s the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important like a mountain, or tall like a tree.

makes as much sense as she does….

  40. - Vote Quimby! - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 3:45 pm:

Just remember, Bub, you asked me to do this…

  41. - Pat Robertson - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 3:49 pm:

    SG: Oh, look, a kitty!

    PQ: Oh, Lord, not again!

  42. - Rosey - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 3:54 pm:

What a wonderful shade of rose his face gets when he is not sure what to do. I better find matching overcoats. This is going to be a very long campaign.

  43. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 4:31 pm:

At an impromptu meeting with Governor Quinn, Sen. Susan Garrett said she has “no indication” that she’s the frontrunner for the Lt. Governor nomination. The Governor told reporters that he is happy to wait for the State Central Committee’s process to unfold and would not name his preferred candidate.

  44. - Will County Woman - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 5:35 pm:

How old is this picture? Is this from Quinn’s days as treasurer? He has the comb-over thing going.

  45. - Park - Wednesday, Mar 24, 10 @ 6:37 pm:

all good. But Bill won this one at 11:58.

  46. - SIck of All of Them - Thursday, Mar 25, 10 @ 12:42 am:

Is he talking about CUB AGAIN? Really, who can’t afford a little utility bill or two? Tsk, tsk…

  47. - Knuts - Thursday, Mar 25, 10 @ 7:41 am:

Rich, the fact that only 46 people have chosen to comment on this, is an indication, however slight, that most of us aren’t excited intrigued or interested in his choice. Hopefully this isn’t a harbinger of thongs to come, but the qotd usually draws more attention when people are moved. Why not ask “who would you pick for lite gov” and “state why in one sentence”
