  1. - One of the 35 - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:28 am:

Many current General Assembly members who have gotten us into the financial mess we are now in, will be reelected. Why would we vote to return any of them to office?

  2. - Been There - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:29 am:

Your election night party is crashed by Microsoft employees. But you still make it fun.

  3. - Esteban - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:29 am:

Despite the endless commercials on tv,
    pople will STILL vote.

  7. - MrJM - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:36 am:

What do you think will be the biggest surprise on election day?

Joe Walsh delivers a gracious and heartfelt concession speech.

    – MrJM

  8. - Tommydanger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:37 am:

    Obama wins

    Boehner cries

    Pelosi frowns (I think)

  9. - Irishpirate - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:38 am:

How quickly it’s apparent the President has won reelection. He’ll win Ohio, Virginia and likely take either North Carolina and/or Florida.

As the man says “dats all folks”.

  10. - OneMan - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:41 am:

Several legislative races will be very close (closer than expected considering who did the drawing).

How close the Duckworth/Walsh race ends up (this is my long shot).

How after the google folks spending time with Rich, all of a sudden CapFax shows up at the top of most search results in Google..

  11. - Downstate - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:44 am:

45% of Americans will be SHOCKED that their candidate lost.

  12. - Yossarian Lives - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:45 am:

Polling places will experience long delays as confused voters scan their ballots, trying to figure out where they can vote to “fire Madigan.”

  13. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:45 am:

I really can’t think of anything that would be a surprise.

The Body Politic is hooked up to 24/7 sensors. Every move it makes is known instantly.

  14. - Small Town Liberal - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:48 am:

The new pony Jason Plummer unwraps as his consolation present.

  15. - Irishpirate - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:50 am:

    Hey Small Town Liberal,

I was thinking that the image of Plummer riding a go kart would ALMOST be as funny as the pony image. At least with the pony he could be wearing a cowboy hat. With the go kart he could wear aviator goggles.

  16. - howlongtillnov7 - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:53 am:

Registered voter who promises they will not vote for your candidate if they receive one more call from your campaign will receive additional calls and still vote for your candidate.

  17. - Cincinnatus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:54 am:

The biggest surprise for me will be if Ohio results are available within 14 days of the election. We may not know the results of POTUS for weeks, unless Romney fulfills my 53% projection and takes other “toss-up” states.

  18. - Chicago Cynic - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:55 am:

States the Romney camp believes are theirs like Florida and North Carolina go down to the wire with probably Florida slipping back to the president. Others which Republicans have been spinning as this/close like PA, MN and MI will be easy Obama wins.

  19. - unspun - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:55 am:

    Cullerton regains supermajority.

  20. - Dirty Red - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:57 am:

Pongee is elected to the Livingston County Board as a write-in candidate.

  21. - Sunshine - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:57 am:

Voter turnout will be heavy among Independents

    Romney wins by large margin

Boehner doesn’t cry, until the inauguration

Miller wins “Bite Me” award over Biden, by a landslide

Jason Plummer wins trip to Mexico to cry in Tequila over loss of race by a huge mrgin, compliments of a CapFax blogger Extraordinaire

  22. - 47th Ward - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:59 am:

Bob Kerrey wins in NE and Joe Donnelly wins in IN.

  23. - Fire Anita Alvarez - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 9:59 am:

Anita Alvarez gets less than 70% of the vote.

and at least one Cook County circuit judge loses a retention vote.

  24. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:00 am:

–The biggest surprise for me will be if Ohio results are available within 14 days of the election.–

Cincy, you need some fresh air. Where do you get this stuff, anyway? Does it sound reasonable to you?

  25. - Skeeter - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:09 am:

The surprise to some will be a poor showing by Illinois Dems at the Congressional level.

Other than Duckworth, the GOP holds. Schilling wins. Dold wins. On a map where Dems could have picked up four, they are at best up one.

The other surprise is that Madigan learns that money is not enough. He needs good candidates and he needs to show good government results and this time he has neither. McSweeney and Skip both win.

  26. - Cincinnatus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:10 am:

    Wordslinger,

Perhaps you should inform yourself about the new absentee ballot laws in Ohio. This year, every registered voter received an absentee ballot request. There will be a large number of provisional ballots cast by people who may or may not have voted absentee. By law, provisional ballots cannot be opened before 10 days after the election, and then they need to be resolved against absentee ballots.

    Cubs win World Series

  28. - Anonymous - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:23 am:

Cross actually managing to stay off the golf course. (It’s going to take a lot of effort, but I think he may be able to do it.)

  29. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:27 am:

Cincy, I’d try to not let NEWSMAX inform your judgement.

It’s a beautiful, sunny day. A breath of fresh air would do you good.

  30. - Jake From Elwood - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:28 am:

Oberweis will finally win election to a public office. Two scoops of Black Cherry for everyone!

  31. - Wensicia - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:28 am:

Jesse Jackson Jr tapes an appearance from a undisclosed location giving his victory speech.

  32. - OneMan - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:35 am:

== Jesse Jackson Jr tapes an appearance from a undisclosed location giving his victory speech ==

But the background will look suspiciously like a titled kilt location…

  33. - RNUG - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:36 am:

I was going to say two weeks before reading Cncinnatus’ answer. W won’t know the POTUS answer for two weeks … and not just over Ohio.

There will be so many close states that the lawsuits and recounts will make the previous Florida mess look like a walk in the park. Both sides have lawyers ready to go in almost all of the states that are even close. The MSM is full of stories about it.

  34. - RNUG - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:38 am:

    word,

you can find a similar story in the NYTimes today

  35. - Irish - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:38 am:

The 47% actually do something and vote against Romney. (snark)

    Janesville, Wi. goes for Obama

Martin Sandoval and Luis do the Quangman dance at his victory party. Then they take it on the road to any GOP election night party they can.

The POTUS election results cannot be called in New York and New Jersey as voters cannot get to the polls and some are not even able to open. (Seriously and not meant to be funny. And probably not a surprise.)

  36. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:44 am:

–There will be so many close states that the lawsuits and recounts will make the previous Florida mess look like a walk in the park.–

    Sure. Happens all the time.

If once every 100 or so years counts as all the time.

  37. - Jerome Horwitz - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:45 am:

There will be a disagreement over the way the votes were counted in the national election.

  38. - Bemused - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:45 am:

If the other guy wins life will continue. If my guy wins my soul will not burn for eternity.

  39. - Cincinnatus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:51 am:

Don’t let the facts stand in your way, Wordslinger.

  40. - Irish - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:51 am:

3J wins and then makes a miraculous recovery until the Federal investigation resumes and then he has a relapse.

  41. - Anonymice - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:54 am:

The justices of the US Supreme Court disappear when the losers try to file appeals, and are found hiding in a motel in Rockford in mid December.

  42. - just sayin' - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:56 am:

Mike Madigan Tebowing after not only not being “fired” but picking up more seats.

Pat Brady blames Mike Madigan for Mike Madigan gaining more power. Oh right, that won’t be a surprise.

  43. - Chevy owner/Ford County - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:57 am:

Donnelly wins in Indiana; Akin wins in Missouri.

  44. - siriusly - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:57 am:

The biggest surprise will be how many seats the GOP loses in the General Assembly.

  45. - just sayin' - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:58 am:

Multiple injuries reported from flying pigs after Jim Oberweis actually wins an election.

  46. - Cassiopeia - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:03 am:

Romney wins and its not even close.

  47. - Irish - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:08 am:

Off topic a bit - but the SJR had an article that there has been a surprising jump in bass numbers in Lake Springfield lately. They attribute this to the presence of more structure on the Lake’s bottom. Boats and the like. LOL

  48. - Cincinnatus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:09 am:

    just sayin’,

Your comment reminded me of this:

  49. - Dirty Red - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:10 am:

Irish, yesterday was the predictions. Today’s theme is SURPRISE.

  50. - Midstate Indy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:15 am:

Surprises…?…Cross comes to the realization that he is ever in the minority…Plummer gives a concession speech with a coherent thought and grammar…Oberweis wins & people actually care…Walsh wins - nevermind…Gill shows Davis what’s up…Pat Brady takes a week off before sending another fundraising piece - my bad, wishful thinking…

  51. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:16 am:

Cincy, I admire the fact that you can handle the cognitive dissonance of simultaneously maintaining that Romney will get 53% of the national vote, yet the election won’t be called for two weeks.

What other facts am I ignoring?

  52. - Colossus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:17 am:

I can’t believe I’m agreeing with Cincy on this, but I don’t think he’s totally offbase. It wouldn’t surprise me to have a long delay from Ohio. I know of one Dem lawyer from IL who took a month-long LoA and has been in OH for two weeks already.

That said, Newsmax doesn’t actually have news on it, it specializes in conspiracy fear mongering. I rank it on par with WorldNewsDaily in tinfoil hattery.

  53. - Ahoy! - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:19 am:

John Hartman will get 20% of the vote in the 13th District.

  54. - Team Sleep - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:19 am:

My two shockers for the GOP: Kathy Smith and Mike McElroy win in squeakers.

My two shockers for the Dems: Kathleen Willis and Sam Yingling win in squeakers.

I don’t want to call anything a surprise at the federal levels. The polls are all so close and the money is so vast that I would not be surprised if Joe Walsh won and Bobby Schilling or Rodney Davis lost. I don’t see Obama losing Illinois, but I also can see him underperforming the polls and bit and costing some Congressional candidates votes.

  55. - Midstate Indy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:23 am:

@Team Sleep - McElroy is a good one - Agreed, that would definately be a switch in that district

  56. - Irish - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:32 am:

Dirty Red - ??????????? Didn’t realize my posts were any different than the others.

  57. - Chad - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:40 am:

Romney will demand a recount based on uncounted or miscounted votes in a swing state that decides the electoral college and lo and behold, the US Supreme Court will allow the recount to go forward tating, “We are not bound by precedent.”

  58. - Cincinnatus - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:40 am:

    Word,

Since you obviously forgot your reading glasses, I’ll reiterate my post:

“We may not know the results of POTUS for weeks, unless Romney fulfills my 53% projection and takes other “toss-up” states.”

    What’s your particular malfunction?

  59. - Chad - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:40 am:

    sorry, that should be “stating”

  60. - Anonymous - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:46 am:

More than 20 percent of Eligible Voters show up.

No, I don’t actually believe that will happen, but it would be a nice surprise. :/

  61. - Des Plaines ~ Willie - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:52 am:

President Barack Obama will lose both popular and electoral vote.

  62. - Des Plaines ~ Willie - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:58 am:

Jessie Jackson Jr. will be officially indicted on November 8, 2012. He will be elected but will govern from Mayo Clinic.

  63. - Kovacs - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:04 pm:

Romney WINS!!!!, Real change is upon us.

  64. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:10 pm:

The number of new “Willy” names that will grace CapFax….

Biggest Suprise(s) - MJM will now have seats in DuPage & Kendall Counties for the LONG HALL.

Tom Cross & I are actually golfing TOGETHER on Electon Day and Jason Plummer & I plan a Spring Break trip that will “beat the drum”

Saviano wins, but the shocker will be, Saviano takes an even greater role in HGOP business like no one has seen him do, and I mean an even greater roll than we can imagine.

    I turn down a 2nd Cannoli …

Many GOP regulars, on Election Nite itself, will ask for Pat Brady to step down, not even giving Pat the opportunity for a graceful exit.

  65. - Anonymous45 - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:14 pm:

Barack wins big…Duckworth sails…Jacobs loses and then gets a job with Excelon just likr dear ol’ Dad…:)

  66. - Loop Lady - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:17 pm:

OW: I hope you are right about Saviano, but he has to win first…GOP leadership is pathetic…

  67. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:21 pm:

    Forgot one …

Watch Radogno, her reaction to what is happening and how it goes down - What is Suprising will be that she may be the only voice, and we might see the Caucus melt away, and melt away from her, in real time.

  68. - Team Sleep - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:38 pm:

Willy - I don’t think Christine losing control of her caucus would be a surprise. I expect it.

Loop - that prompts another “shocker” for me - Tom Cross loses his leadership spot.

  69. - Cook County Commoner - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:46 pm:

I don’t find a Vote For Lou Lang poster in the voting booth.

  70. - Joe Bidenopoulous - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:53 pm:

Only a shock for half the voters - the world doesn’t end when their candidate loses.

Can’t really imagine any other true shocks unless there’s some sleeper legislative race out there no one is talking about, and I don’t think there is.

  71. - Mowatcher - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:56 pm:

In Illinois, would it be a surprise if David Gill won? I know that district is more Democratic than before, but when was the last time a perennial candidate won a seat in Congress? It has to be pretty rare.

  72. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:58 pm:

The surprise will be it happening in Real Time on Election Nite… And all that means in happening in Real Time & that will be the shocker

  73. - Deep South - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:01 pm:

I think the right wingers will actually be VERY surprised that Obama wins re-election. Their media is constantly telling them that there is no way Obama wins - that no one in their right mind will vote for Obama, and their polls consistently show that Obama will lose. Of course, their media doesn’t say Mitt will win, their media says Obama will lose. That’s playing not to lose…which in the end isn’t very wise. So on Wednesday morning, there will be a lot of very surprised right wingers. Even though some, like Chubbs Christie seem to see the writing on the wall.

It won’t be any surprise that they’ll be blaming the liberal media…and voter fraud…and probably Sandy…and everything else under the sun.

My advice to them…hide your guns now while there’s still time.

  74. - Robert the Bruce - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:07 pm:

The first “Bite Me!” from Rich will occur after 11:00 AM, and the first lifetime ban will occur after 11:30 AM.

  75. - Hank - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:09 pm:

Rahm and Quinn hugging and crying on stage at Obama’s election headquarters

  76. - WazUp - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:11 pm:

Republicans win the majority in the house and senate. April 1st is the first day after election…right ?right?

  77. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:14 pm:

I will go to my polling place, grab my ballot, and I, Oswego Willy, will cast a vote for Tom Cross. That has to surprise someone, but that, will happen.

  78. - Stones - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:18 pm:

JJJ wins but not nearly by the margin expected.

  79. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:21 pm:

Dee Beubien will get below 45% of the vote. That will surprise a few who may see this a bit closer, but in the end Dee loses by 10

  80. - Irish - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:29 pm:

OW revelling in his new found prominence with the GOP leadership changes his name to
    Kendall County William I

  81. - Riverside - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:30 pm:

McElroy comes from behind and beats Manar…..

    Plummer deported to Mexico.
Detmers deported to Montana for treatment in an undisclosed location for regression therapy.

  84. - LincolnLounger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:40 pm:

Oberweis does NOT announce his candidacy for 2014 Governor on Election Night 2012. Instead, “everywhere” he goes, people ask him to run and he waits two whole weeks before starting another gubernatorial run.
    “Long HALL”, greater “roll”? Sheesh.

  85. - ChicagoR - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:45 pm:

Zool: I’ll go you one better -

Wordslinger and Cincinnatus are revealed to be one person with multiple personality disorder. Or a sick sense of humor.

  86. - G'Kar - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:46 pm:

With confused elections results, the Supreme Court will eliminate the Electoral College, calling it just plain “lame.”

  87. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:49 pm:

    - Irish -,

The only “William” that could pull that off would have been “William the Conqueror” and he took over England and I would have to take over all of Kendall…tough ask, but maybe a surprise!

  88. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 2:12 pm:

And who won the Capiton Contest yesterday?

  89. - Tough Guy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 2:18 pm:

    Manar only beats McElroy 54-46

  90. - walkinfool - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 2:20 pm:

One state will require a recount. It will start properly following the rules of its own courts. Justice Scalia will immediately issue an injunction to force the locals to stop recounting. Weeks will go by with lawyers making millions on both sides. The case will hit the Supremes and Scalia will write the majority opinion, using as one key argument supporting a GOP win, that the recount was not completed on time to meet the Constitutional requirements.

  91. - Not It - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 2:51 pm:

Slightly off topic, but I early voted today (very long line) and read the Constitutional Amendment word-for-word for the 1st time and was a little confused by it. Then I read there is a lawsuit challenging the amendment because of its language. Was this the plan the entire time? Wouldn’t surprise me.

  92. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 3:28 pm:

    –What’s your particular malfunction?–

I like that phrase. A lot.

Cincy, I’m not sure that I have a “particular malfunction,” but what say you on Nov. 7 you, Spanky, Alfalfa and the rest of the gang climb out of the “He-Man Democrat-Haters Club” treehouse and get to work?

Grandpa Rupert and Uncle Roger might get mad, but what have they done for anyone lately, anyway?

You really don’t have to tow the line for those clowns.

  93. - wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 3:36 pm:

–Wordslinger and Cincinnatus are revealed to be best friends.–

I consider Cincy a good friend. And as a good friend, and a Christian, I consider it my duty to shepherd my wayward brother to the Promised Land.

  94. - Precinct Captain - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 3:40 pm:

    @Cincinnatus
    http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/11/01/absentee_ballots_already_opened_in_ohio.html

The absentee ballots in Ohio are already being counted.

  95. - Hacks - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 4:38 pm:

The presidential race will be called by 11:20PM. Most politicos will be in bed by midnight after brief discussion on why polls were so wrong.

There will be 2 people killed in Chicago over stupid rejoicing or rioting in Obama race.
