Unclear on the concept

Lang “aggressively contacts the elderly woman”? This, I had to see. Wow! What a story! I immediately downloaded the video and had a look… Sheesh. So disappointing. I mean, Lang calls the woman “ma’am,” introduces himself politely, and the lady appears to say “thank you” after he hands her his lit. That was aggressive? I don’t get it. Also, the person with the camera is obviously holding a piece of campaign lit and standing pretty much the same distance from the entrance. And I don’t see any 100-foot markers, either. Again, I don’t get it. Maybe y’all can enlighten me about what I missed here?

Ah the election year, electioneering reality distortion zone…
- archimedes - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:24 am:
You can see the tape at teh end of the vid. Looks like he is standing right on the circle, and takes a step inside the circle to hand out the literature.
Hey - The Cowboys lost because Dez Bryant’s fingers grazed the out of bounds chalk.
- wordslinger - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:31 am:
Rich, look more closely.
You definitely see a puff of smoke coming from behind the fence at the grassy knoll.
Back… and to the left. Back…. and to the left.
- Jaded - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:39 am:
“Aggressively,” really?! That is about the least aggressive I have EVER seen Leader Lang.
- Michelle Flaherty - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:41 am:
The yellow line is not the official first-down marker.
- Marcus Agrippa - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:48 am:
I thought it was 100 feet from the door of the ROOM that the machine is in, not the building itself. I’ll see if I can find it.
- Marcus Agrippa - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:50 am:
Here’s the statute:
“Election officers shall place 2 or more cones, small United States national flags, or some other marker a distance of 100 horizontal feet from each entrance to the room used by voters to engage in voting, which shall be known as the polling room. If the polling room is located within a building that is a private business, a public or private school, or a church or other organization founded for the purpose of religious worship and the distance of 100 horizontal feet ends within the interior of the building, then the markers shall be placed outside of the building at each entrance used by voters to enter that building on the grounds adjacent to the thoroughfare or walkway. If the polling room is located within a public or private building with 2 or more floors and the polling room is located on the ground floor, then the markers shall be placed 100 horizontal feet from each entrance to the polling room used by voters to engage in voting. If the polling room is located in a public or private building with 2 or more floors and the polling room is located on a floor above or below the ground floor, then the markers shall be placed a distance of 100 feet from the nearest elevator or staircase used by voters on the ground floor to access the floor where the polling room is located.”

We are talking about Lou Lang here, I guarantee you he is guilty of something, just maybe not electioneering. Lol
- just sayin' - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:51 am:
Wow no wonder Lang will win by a huge margin. Bush league opposition.
- MadManMad - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 10:55 am:
I agree with Marcus. I was always told 100 ft. from the actual polling place entrance, not the building entrance.
- MrJM - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:03 am:
As long as election judges enforce the same “100 ft.” rule for everybody, there just isn’t any there there.

Skokie represent! Going there today to early vote, I will be sure to be wired AND pack a camera in my hat so I can report back all of the shenanigans that are(nt) going on.
- Sunshine - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:08 am:
What we didn’t see was the old lady turning and whacking Lang with her cane. The camera crew was laughing so hard they didn’t get the shot.
Looked like everyone, including the camera crew holding the placards were out of range of the 100′ marker, as there were no markers in sight?
- aggressive - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:28 am:
Looks like IPI’s “journalist in residence” is now doing undercover work.
- Jimmy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:29 am:
These types of bogus claims are all that you are left with when you have absolutely no ground game and sense a real thrashing coming down the pike on November 6th. This video is beyond desperation.
For crying out loud, put down the video camera and talk to some voters on issues…what’s that? Oh, you lose when that happens.
- Oh no he didnt! - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:31 am:
If that’s aggressive I’d hate to see him angry! Bahahahahahaha!
- 4th and 100 feet - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:33 am:
On election duty for the State’s Attorney we were always directed to enforce it 100 feet from the door of the room inside the building where voting is taking place.
- Pot calling kettle - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:43 am:
If the election results turn on this, I’ll eat my hat. And I don’t even wear a hat, so I’ll have to go find one.
- huh - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 11:44 am:
This is just pathetic.

Rich, don’t be coy… you get it. Trumped up election season silliness.
- Anonymous - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:03 pm:
the idea “he’s being aggressive” is put into the viewers head prior to look/see…and hopes viewer will see that, despite the visual facts he is not. Now, thats not to say if there was a poker going on nearby, Lou might have been a bit more hasty in his electioneering.
- OneMan - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:12 pm:
Don’t have access to the Mac but if you put a thrash metal soundtrack on it I bet it seems aggressive.
- Cook County Commoner - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 12:36 pm:
I’m in Rep Lang’s district, and he has been working all the senior homes aggressively. And the “100 foot” rule doesn’t apply in Skokie, judging from my last 5 votes there. I’m just wondering if opponent Vince Romano is giving Lou hearburn. The lawn signs appear to be 3-2 in favor of Romano. Also, surprising is the strong Romney showing on the lawns. I attribute that to Obama’s lack of enthusiasm for Israel. But have no fear. The triumvirate of Shakowsky, Silverstein and Lang will win handily and obsequiously deliver for their bosses.

I was expecting New Black Panthers with clubs.
Drudge tells me those guys are EVERYWHERE!

Election season after election season after election season, GOPers claim that the Jewish vote is gonna shift right over Israel — and it NEVER happens. The Jewish vote consistently remains at around 70 percent Democratic. Skokie does though have a bigger Jewish orthodox community which leans further to the right than conservative or reform Jews.

There are many Jews who will be voting for the GOP this time, including me!
- WazUp - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:14 pm:
Laws? I don’t need no stinkin law!
- Thoughtless Penny - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:17 pm:
How cute! Romano and his little friends are playing campaign with their toys.
- ArchPundit - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:30 pm:
The 100 Foot rule is the best law on the books. The 25 foot law in Missouri has me trying to run like Walter Payton to get through the crowd–and no one needs to see me trying to do that anymore.

== I’m just wondering if opponent Vince Romano is giving Lou hearburn.
No.
- Oswego Willy - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:33 pm:
I would call that “working your polling place correctly” but it seems other members of the ILGOP are more worried about tape measures and ignoring voters to actually know how to …. “palm” …..”Palm? What the heck is that? Palm Beach? Palm Spings? Oswego Willy is confusing!”
Working a precinct on Election Day is an “Art” - NOT … Not a “science”…. We in the ILGOP have forgotten that, but we can Call, Call, Call! Right Pat Brady!
To Whom Sent the Video,
Learn to work a precinct AND a polling place … Then call me.
Yours in Palm Carding-ness,
Oswego Willy

I understand. You will be among the 30 percent or so that vote Republican.
- reformer - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 1:44 pm:
Very aggressive? For starters, that’s so out of character for Lou. A more mild-mannered and gentlemanly rep doesn’t exist unless it’s Don Moffitt.
Willie:
I agree. In my experience, the GOP doesn’t work the polling place nearly as well here in NW suburban Cook. But they are quick to accuse the Dems of violating the rules, except the Dems usually know the rules better than the complainers.
- mokenavince - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 3:24 pm:
Blago gave grandma a free ride and look what it got him. If I were Lou Lang I’d be careful with grandma.
Lou Lang overbearing! This ad is approved by the other guy.

–In my experience, the GOP doesn’t work the polling place nearly as well here in NW suburban Cook.–
They don’t work at all. That’s kind of the point.
For those keeping score at home, keep in mind 40% of the Illinois electorate in in Cook County.
Anyone know that there’s a Cook County State’s Attorney’s race?
Anyone know who’s the GOP candidate?
Anyone know what happened to the testicular virility of rich tough-guy Cook County GOP lawyers?
Anyone want to build a party?
Or do you just want to be professional victims?
- Gator - Friday, Nov 2, 12 @ 4:09 pm:
Wordlsinger, you are right about the GOP being invisible in Cook County.
I hate to admit it but I was surprised to find out that the Cook County State’s Attorney, Circuit Clerk, etc. were on the ballot. I had no idea these races were up when I walked into the poll. I was embarrassed at first, but your comment made me think that the GOP should be embarrassed that they have done such a poor job of getting their message out in Cook County.
