  1. - Brendan - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 12:46 pm:

“Crocker Jarmon is holding firm in the southern counties.”

  2. - Because I said so... - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 12:47 pm:

@Brendan-That is one of my favorite movies! Best line “What do we do now?”

  3. - Mama - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 12:48 pm:

According to the Chicago Sun Times: Pregnant mom votes while in labor

  4. - NIref - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 12:52 pm:

Anymore updates from Jackson County and Carbondale?

  5. - Machinist - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 12:58 pm:

Bradshaw people electioneering within election-free zone on Carbondale campus

  6. - Disabled Poutlry - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:07 pm:

Heavy voting in Sangamon County. I was 1127 at about 11:30 in a 3 precinct polling place. Seems was up from 2008.

  7. - UISer - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:17 pm:

    Bustos-Schilling updates?

  8. - SamiG - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:27 pm:

Newspapers report Sangamon County turnout to exceed 75%. I was number 622 at 11 am on Southwest Side. Election worker says this is the most people she’s seen in 10 years.

  9. - NIref - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:28 pm:

==Bradshaw people electioneering within election-free zone on Carbondale campus==

Typical floundering TP. One of them got booted out of the student center about two weeks ago during early voting. Tried to convince me to vote TP. Do which she got a condensed lecture on Duverger’s Law (Moral of the story, do not approach an American Government PhD student and ask him to vote TP).

  10. - Stones - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:29 pm:

Love the Crocker Jarmon comment. The Candidate is the best political movie I have ever seen.

  11. - Small Town Liberal - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:35 pm:

Mama - I took a close friend to vote early in Springfield last week while she was in labor. She didn’t think she’d be up for leaving the house afterward so I took her to the county building when her contractions were 7-8 minutes apart. 4 hours later she had a new baby boy. If Dr. Gill wins by one he’s going to owe her a big thank you.

  12. - PQ's Primary Opponent - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:35 pm:

Afternoon report: Due to the rain, Cross only gets in 13 holes. A huge disappointment, he was on track to break 80?????:(

  13. - Sarge - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:45 pm:

Voted absentee from Virginia a month ago. No line, but I did have a beer. The powers that be might toss my ballot for being tossed.

  14. - Adam Smith - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:52 pm:

Waukegan/North Chicago area tracking a little lower than 2008 turnout. Hard to do firm comparisson due to precinct redrawing. Steady but not huge.

  15. - RNUG - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 1:53 pm:

Light rain, voted shortly after noon at Spfld Cap 071. Two other precincts also in the same building. Busy but not crowded; didn’t have to wait but a minute to vote. When I turned my ballot in, turnout for all three precincts was 772.

  16. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:04 pm:

Same thing for me in Sangamon County. I vote in Springfield and it was packed. Not sure any of the three Dems. running county wide have a chance, but for the first time in years, the Sangamon County Dems. have been on radio for weeks and have gone for the throat of the Sanamon County GOP ticket.

  17. - Wensicia - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:10 pm:

Cold, drizzling, yet strong African American turnout. Many elderly in wheelchairs and using walkers, voting despite the weather. Mayfield’s people electioneering right in front of my polling place’s doors.

  18. - Boiling Brook - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:13 pm:

Biggert canvassers apparently following Foster volunteers ripping down door-hangers in Bolingbrook. Wonder if same mastermind who planned Romney rally on Election Day.

  19. - Easy - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:15 pm:

People have voted. People are voting now. People will be voting later.

  20. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:25 pm:

Heavy turnout on southwest side of SPI. AA was # 1407 in 2 precinct “cluster” at 1:00. Veteran judges say turnout highest in their memory.
GMAB, for what it’s worth, I suspect the Sangamon County Dems’ mudslinging on the radio will spectacularly backfire.
Of course, this is the same group that puts up a third generation hack for judge who calls himself the “outsider.”
    Not.

  21. - Newsclown - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:27 pm:

Plummer claims he has totally swept Lincoln county, every vote.

  22. - G. Willickers - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:38 pm:

@Boiling Brook - Romney scheduled those election day rallies in Ohio Democratic strongholds.

Secret Service detail tends to tie up traffic, you see.

He might not’ve been planning to rally GOP voters so much as delay / distract Dem voters.

Average turnout so far in NW burbs. Was high early vote turnout but when I voted at lunchtime the EJs said total number of voters (early + election day) was about par for the course.

Good mix of Dem and GOP palm cards in various voters’ hands in what used to be ruby red territory.

  23. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:40 pm:

Arthur you are most likely right but at least the Dems. made the local GOP candidates do something more than the usual, “high, I’m a Republican who lives in Sangamon County thank you for electing me”.

  24. - Jaded - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:41 pm:

Duncan faced Obama about three times in a row. Then Arnie looked over and saw the Secret Service detail patting his suit coat right underneath his left arm. After that the President scored at will.

  25. - Crime Fighter - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:49 pm:

Voted Woodside 02 (Lake Springfield area) at around 10am this morning - it was a crowded as I have ever seen it.

  26. - Crime Fighter - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:52 pm:

@ Arthur Anderson - I think we cancelled each other out. Not to worry though, I think the shoot, pollute, and swindle GOP in Sangamon County will carry the day -as usual.

  27. - Republican Hippie - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 2:57 pm:

Just got back from polls in Capitol Township 47 (by Lake Springfield) …NEVER seen it this busy - especially at 2:30PM! I think i was voter #1352 (3 precincts here)

  28. - Coyote Chris - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 3:10 pm:

My sleepy little polling place in Godfrey-Madison County was alive at 6:10 this morning. Official there said it was the busiest she had ever seen it.

  29. - Skeeter - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 3:16 pm:

Voting seems heavier along the lake than I’ve seen it. On top of that, it seems like we have a lot of inexperienced judges and on a possibly related note, a lot of equipment problems.

    Not looking forward to close.

  30. - NW Cook - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 3:18 pm:

I was just the 260th voter in my precinct at 3p. IL H&S races but no Cong race.

  31. - PES - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 3:40 pm:

The picture of the polling place near Mechanicsburg on the front page of today’s SJR also made CNN’s website last presidential election, obviously different photo, but same polling place. Does anyone know exactly where this polling place is?

  32. - David Ormsby - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 3:50 pm:

Cook County Clerk David Orr reports 71% turnout in suburban Cook, down 4 points from 2008.

  33. - EVIEVENT - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:00 pm:

Voter turnout in rural Sangamon county (open house seat) is overwhelming. Possible pushback to Madigan heavy hand?

  34. - Anonymous 45 - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:02 pm:

slow, steady rain in western burbs…silliness in Proviso between Skip and Willis factions…

  35. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:04 pm:

PES: Mechanicsburg is about 10 miles east of Springfield in rural Sangamon County.

  36. - Barton Lorimor - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:11 pm:

I called a friend in Carbondale. A team from one of the state legislative campaigns was reportedly dispatched to the campus precincts. They found judges were requiring two forms of identification.

  37. - PES - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:14 pm:

Give Me A Break, I know where Mechanicsburg is located, I am just curious where that particular polling place is.

  38. - Poll watcher - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:15 pm:

100 unemployed union electricians asked by BA in NW suburbs to volunteer to help at polls in one senate district. 3 said yes.

  39. - EVIEVENT - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:16 pm:

    Riverton and Rochester

  40. - Give Me A Break - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:24 pm:

PES: A garage. LOL Have no idea.

  41. - estubborn - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:24 pm:

Republican Senate candidate Peter Hurtado has people screaming outside of polling places that Democratic candidate is a murderer for voting for Medicaid reform.

  42. - L.S. - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:24 pm:

HDems win Willis, Sente, Moylan, Kifowit, Conroy, and Yingling. Cross’ leadership is challanged but no one else wants the job in the end.

  43. - zatoichi - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:48 pm:

Went to local voting place at UofI extension office.
Same judges for every vote. No ID needed as long signature matched. Nice spread of snacks. The judges insisted people take some since they had too much. In/out in 5 minutes. At least 50% of candidates had no opponent. My professional estimate is their campaign costs were pretty low. Celebration and acceptance speech not needed.

  44. - nrebreg - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 4:59 pm:

Voted in Moline around 4:15. Same place two sets of family members had voted earlier in the day. Whether 6 a.m., 8 a.m, or 4 p.m., it’s been very, very busy. I should note that this is a new polling place for us, so it would be apples and oranges to compare. Something tells me they’ve cut down on the number of polling places, combined some, and therefore it’s busier than in past years. Again, apples and oranges, but regardless, nice turnout here.

  45. - walkinfool - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 5:14 pm:

Very heavy turnout Duckworth/Walsh district– as expected.

  46. - MrJM - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 5:41 pm:

I wonder what percentage of early voters used to vote after work. Post-work rush is d.e.a.d.

    – MrJM

  47. - Original Rambler - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 6:55 pm:

Heavy turnout in Kenosha bodes well for BHO.

  48. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 7:07 pm:

Putney Swope surprise winner in Lincoln County.

  49. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Nov 6, 12 @ 7:28 pm:

OK, let’s move this discussion to the results threads. Thanks!
