Question of the day

Friday, Apr 26, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From the Twitters

Hope you were smiling if you were in the #Illinois Senate yesterday. Artist William Crook was drawing his latest work

The pic

I have one of Bill’s drawings on my wall just above my computer screen. He’s an old friend and he does incredible work.

* The Question: Caption?

A police sketch of the suspects wanted for questioning in the disappearnace of the state’s fiscal health.

  2. - Stones - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 11:48 am:

Pretty much the opposite of the famous Constitutional Convention painting by Junius Brutis Stearns.

  3. - Matt Jones - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 11:50 am:

I received one of Mr. Crook’s pieces of the senate chamber from my co-workers when i left staff many years ago. It is one of my most prized momentos of my Springfield life.
As for a Caption, “Now they belong to the ages”

  4. - AFSCME Steward - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:01 pm:

The Illinois Senate, it SEEMED like a good idea when we thought it up.

  5. - AFSCME Steward - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:02 pm:

Don’t blame me, I only draw here.

  6. - iThink - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:03 pm:

Artist is more productive in a day than legislature is in year to date.

  7. - Jake from Elwood - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:04 pm:

    Classic line, 47th.
    Winner winner chicken dinner.
No one will beat this one today.

  8. - wordslinger - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:06 pm:

Senate in the palms of his hands? Must be the new ComEd chairman.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:14 pm:

“The Republican seats are in color”

  10. - Frindle - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:20 pm:

    “By hook or by Crook”

  11. - Norseman - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:20 pm:

Sitting under a different Crook drawing of the Senate trying to think of something better than 47th. Failed, but here’s my lame attempt.

Artist still waiting for payment on state commissioned painting so he can add color.

Irony, black and write drawing of an institution where nothing is black and white.

  12. - Amalia - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:22 pm:

    Life imitates art. If only.

  13. - RonOglesby - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:24 pm:

The drawing is good, but his beard rocks.

  14. - I don't want to live in Teabagistan - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:29 pm:

    Bullet points vs. hollow points

  15. - 47th Ward - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:30 pm:

    Crook and liars?

  16. - FormerParatrooper - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:32 pm:

Hats off to 47th Ward, you nailed it.

  17. - South of I-80 - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:32 pm:

Bill you’ll HAVE to redraw the chamber………I had my eyes closed!

  18. - Hon. John Fritchey - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:38 pm:

His pieces are synonymous with Springfield. I have two of his works, one of which is autographed by all my former colleagues when I left the House, which I love. But I always thought that he should do one that has all of the seats occupied by mushrooms and ducklings. It’d be an instant classic.

  19. - Arthur Andersen - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:45 pm:

    I got nothing after 47th.

Just a hat tip to Mr. Crook. I have one of his works and have given one as a gift. Beautiful work.

  20. - AFSCME Steward - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:51 pm:

The cast of the new Fox reality show “Who Wants to Sucker The Electorate”.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 12:52 pm:

    - 47th Ward -

A tip of the Cap, very well played.

  27. - 47th Ward - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 2:09 pm:

Thanks for the compliments, but I didn’t mean to let the air out of the balloon. You people are all pretty creative and clever. I can’t believe there are so few comments on this one.

  28. - Dirty Red - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 2:18 pm:

I’d love to see what Bill could do if given access to a leadership meeting for five minutes.

  29. - Wensicia - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 2:50 pm:

“Dante’s circles of Hell, aka the Illinois Senate.”

  30. - Downstater - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 3:01 pm:

A place lacking courage and leadership.

  31. - Ray Charles - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 3:42 pm:

To paraphrase an old saying, in which the punch line is unfortunately appropos: “There they sit all broken hearted, tried to………….”

  32. - Ron Burgundy - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 3:58 pm:

At least he didn’t have to ask them to stand still and not do anything.

  33. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 4:10 pm:

    - 47th Ward -

I can not say this any plainer. If this place WAS a bar, and we were Bellying Up, when you dropped that line, the next beverage would be on Me, and I would leave your comment alone.

Since I couldn’t get you that beverage, all I can do is understand, that post can’t be beat. The limitied posts is a credit to a job well done.

  34. - RNUG - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 4:16 pm:

    Limbo in Illinois …

  35. - Julia - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 4:35 pm:

  36. - Just The Way It Is One - Friday, Apr 26, 13 @ 4:46 pm:

Another Gray Day in the Capitol today, as the little bit left ‘o the People’s Money, just fritters and fritters AWAY…!
