Caption contest!

Friday, Oct 18, 2013 - Posted by Rich Miller

* AFSCME Council 31 Executive Director Henry Bayer has been reelected…

Henry is often ascerbic, but he’s unapologetically and unabashedly pro-union and has built one of the most impressive public employee organizations in the country.

* Let’s congratulate Henry on his reelection with a little caption contest, shall we?…

“It’s hard to imagine anyone more unlike our previous governor than our new governor, If you handed Pat Quinn a hairbrush, he wouldn’t know what to do with it.”
    - an actual quote by Mr. Bayer

So Pat Quinn, says, “What? are you gonna go Republican” and I says “No, I’m gonna go Cullerton.”

“If a guy’s close to you, you can’t slight ‘im. You can’t slight that guy. A real grievance can be resolved; differences can be resolved. But an imaginary hurt, a slight - to a Union Boss, like me, that guy, he is gonna hate a governor ’til the day he dies.”

Nobody, I mean nobody, in this building, not Mike Madigan, not John Cullerton, and certainly not Pat Quinn, has been elected unanimously . . . except ME! I have, I have been elected unanimously. . .

Funny that he was nominated by a delegate from Dixon. I think the workers of that town are due for some sizable salary and benefit increases, no?

Get the TV if you can. Give CMS the list.
Those guys are out. I don’t like the way they were behaving when I was in last term. I got no complaints with Pat. But these guys, they’re gone.”

“You got a state pension … You got a state pension! … You both… pensions! … Now do what is right for the Union!”

  31. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Oct 18, 13 @ 4:19 pm:

    “In yo’ face, Rauner!”

Rauner said that union leaders fail to act in the members’ best interests. I strongly disagree with this divide-and-conquer statement. I’m happy with Bayer and other AFSCME leaders. We won some key grievances, and the back-wages court win was great.

I congratulate him on his election victory.

    “Henry is often ascerbic”

Bayer ripped a fellow delegate a new one at the 2011 convention, just chewed her out. We later got somewhat of an apology through the grapevine.

Bayer expects union members to be involved and make the union stronger, and he makes no bones about this.

  32. - Anonymous - Friday, Oct 18, 13 @ 4:22 pm:

We are this far apart in our negotiations with the Governor.

  33. - 4 percent - Friday, Oct 18, 13 @ 4:34 pm:

Last election, it was 4th down and this far to go to the end zone before we stepped in to help. WIsh we went with Dillard.
