Won’t move the needle

Thursday, Feb 27, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Sun-Times

With less than three weeks before the March 18th GOP gubernatorial primary, Kirk Dillard’s running mate has a new move.

Don Tracy, the brother-in-law to state Rep. Jil Tracy, R-Quincy, who is running as Dillard’s lieutenant governor, filed papers this week announcing “Illinoisans for Jil Tracy,” an independent expenditure PAC.

The papers made public today announce that the committee’s purpose is to “support the candidacy of Jil Tracy and Kirk Dillard.”

Rep. Tracy’s family is quite well off, so I called Don this afternoon and he told me his total investment would be “five figures.”

That ain’t enough to do much of anything.

Radio ads in Adams County maybe. Sigh.

  2. - Conservative Republican - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 5:21 pm:

Was curious to read your take on the Brady internal poll he released today.

  3. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 5:22 pm:

And you can keep wondering, CR. lol

    Old grudge there. Very old.

  4. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 5:26 pm:

Bruce Rauner cleaned out the right pocket of the Carhartt and found a six-figure check from out of state he forgot to deposit…

    Five figures… fiasco.

  5. - Wordslinger - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 5:36 pm:

What’s the benefit here? Control of the buy? Why not just give the money to the Dillard campaign?

  6. - Whatever - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 5:46 pm:

    McKeon poll. Enough said.

the breakdown of the edgar brand in this dillard flop has not gotten enough attention. For 20 years edgars been the only real state wide republican with a brand-and I’m including mark kirk in this who to my mind is nowhere near what edgar was in popularity. For whatever reason dillard has not been able to translate that into magic and in 2010 it actually became a weakness as he overused it instead of building it out with an agenda.

In someways dillard reminds me a lot of jon huntsmans presidential campaign in 2012 that really never got going, too much of a patrician just look at my resume I’m good enough and not going out listening to voters and trying to build a connection.

    Addios muchacho

I remain surprised and disappointed that the Dillard campaign never really got in gear.

  9. - Capitol View - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:02 pm:

Are any of the Republican options pro-choice?

If not, it doesn’t matter how much they have to spend. The suburban soccer moms will kill them in November.

  10. - Walker - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:11 pm:

    Shore: bingo

  11. - DuPage Rep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:18 pm:

@ Capitol View. Bruce Rauner is pro choice, but according to Oswego Willy, Rauner is not a real Republican.

  12. - Just The Way It Is One - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:19 pm:

Well, what this all means is simply that they obviously/truly believe they still have a decent, albeit outside/long Shot of pulling this thing off in Come-from-Behind fashion over the Ultra-Wealthy Baron, so apparently they’re going all OUT to scrape up some Ca$h for a Big Push in the Last Hour to see if they just CAN somehow (miraculously) eke out some kind of “193 Vote” shocker next month…!

And ya know what? It may BE a “Hail Mary” Effort of sorts for the Senator and his Running Mate, Rep. Tracy, but I say “GO for it!!” Why not?! Like that old Beer Commercial used to say (can’t remember which one, though), “Ya only go around ONCE in life, so go for all the GUSTO you can GET!”Ya gotta love it! AH-POLitics in Illinois for the Big Prize Offices like Governor…ya just can’t beat it Folks, i.e. the Drama and just sheer Fun of it all, right up to the second that LAST VOTE is counted and ya find out if it was all WORTH it…!!!

  13. - Samurai - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:21 pm:

    Shore: Sound so bitter.

  14. - IbendahlLuvsJBT - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:21 pm:

    Transplants ask, “Edgar who?”
Natives say, “That was twenty years ago. So what.”
Party operatives say, “Not the Edgar thing again. Get a new schtick Dullard.”

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:24 pm:

    - DuPage Rep -,

Yep. “Bruce Rauner” tries to be a Republican, but Bruce Rauner is not close to being a Republican, real or otherwise. Correct.

  16. - Will Caskey - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:32 pm:

    Trombone noises.

  17. - Anonymous - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:33 pm:

Speaking of “INO’s”…Has Don Tracy decided yet this year whether he’s a Republican or Democrat?

  18. - DuPage Rep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:39 pm:

Wait. Oswego Willy thinks Rauner is a phony, so maybe Rauner is really pro life.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:41 pm:

    - DuPage Rep -,

Hey, that was pretty good. Well done.

  20. - DuPage Rep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:48 pm:

    Miller High Life kicking in.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:49 pm:

    Ah, the champagne of Beer.

  22. - Bobo - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 6:59 pm:

    It was Schlitz

  23. - DuPage Rep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:02 pm:

A few more Girls on the Moon, and I will be saying that Mr. Willy is Bruce Rauner’s (Charlie Kane) Jedidiah

  24. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:25 pm:

    - DuPage Rep -,

Rauner could use a Jedediah, but sadly, Rauner and his Crew would never see how that could help, so I would have no shot at helping. Nice sentiment, but my Daily Southtown way is not what they might see as helpful.

  25. - Fearless Freep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:48 pm:

You shouldn’t have put that last sentence, and stop being so pessimistic. We want Dillard to be successful, don’t need that kind of attitude.

  26. - Hans Sanity - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 7:49 pm:

    Just establishing the brand.

  27. - 4 percent - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 8:02 pm:

Actually Dillard would have won in 2010 except that they pulled the Edgar television commercial off of downstate markets in the last three weeks and went with a new 2-commercial rotation.

Edgar is still well received because people like him, think he managed well and is honest.

  28. - Anonymous - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 9:37 pm:

I’m sure with the rest of the Tracy family , 8-9 brothers/ sister in laws, they will push that figure up close to 7 digits! This might get interesting!

  29. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 9:45 pm:

Anon, I’ll have a few of whatever you’re drinking, bro. The Tracys made their money the old-fashioned way and don’t look for them to be putting much of it into a lost cause.

  30. - DuPage Rep - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 10:00 pm:

Still waiting for Tracy to release her tax returns. Might undercut D-Lard’s class warfare campaign. D-Lard’s running mate trying to buy the election.

  31. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 10:04 pm:

Does the five figures include the decimal point?

  32. - mokenavince - Thursday, Feb 27, 14 @ 10:20 pm:

Throwing good money after bad, Dillard’s going no
    where.

  33. - Nonplussed - Friday, Feb 28, 14 @ 8:07 am:

Cal Skinner has posted on his blog that he has gotten a Dillard robocall. Are those extremely cheap to do?
