* The accompanying press release…
Quinn for Illinois launched a new Web video today highlighting Republican billionaire Bruce Rauner’s leadership style and record of mismanagement after a recent report brought to light that residents with developmental disabilities at long-term care facilities he owned were subjected to abuse, neglect and “deplorable” conditions.
Rather than take responsibility for the tragic results at the Rauner homes and explain what went wrong and what he did about it, he instead placed blame for drownings, deadly attacks and rapes on the backs of his “management team.” In video footage, Rauner says what happened at his American Habilitation Services was not just bad for the residents it was also: “a bad investment for us.”
Rauner has refused to detail what and when he knew of the “deplorable” conditions, or what he has done to remedy them.
The video includes reaction from state Rep. Greg Harris (D-Chicago) - a leading advocate for protecting the most vulnerable - who summed up Rauner’s M.O. earlier this week:
“With Rauner, in his case, both with nursing homes and his organization that dealt with people with disabilities, the profits seemed to come first, the people seemed to come second.”
- Soccermom - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 10:15 am:
Geez. Rauner says “I wish we had picked the right management team.”
Is he going to accept that answer from Quinn?
I grow less and less worried about a Rauner victory.

Better.

Sorry Rich. My mistake.

This is bad on so many levels.
Initially, can anybody tell me what the point is of these YouTube spots? Who sees them, other than those who’ve made up their mind? Why bother?
Second though, given that this is an easy attack, the spot was not very effective. It just didn’t seem to hit hard enough.
Also, I like Greg Harris, but I don’t think he added anything of substance here. Greg’s an interesting guy, but he seemed bland here.
Was this done by somebody as a school project? Quinn’s team has got to do better, because Rauner sure will.
I give this a D.

Respect Greg Harris, but the “profits before people” critique just won’t move many voters. It might prevent some Dems from switching. It’s a political/economic ideological statement. More powerful are the criticisms about management, responsibility, and people suffering.
Like the voice, script not especially crisp, production not strong.

Really nothing new and like the earlier posted said, who watches ads on You Tube? Unless Rauner really, really does or did something that could throw a 180 into the campaign, Quinn loses by 10 points.
- William j Kelly - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 10:34 am:
Hopefully these revelations will prevent rauner from ever being in a position to mismanage any large scale programs designed to care for the weak and elderly!

Like everything they produce…it drags. If it’s supposed to incite moral outrage, it simply doesn’t. Many people won’t get to Greg Harris; they’ll exit before he enters. This is on the very cusp of pass/fail. It will pass for the supporters, but probably not anyone else. The script should have required someone to read it who did not go to the “Jack Drees School of Emotional reading”.

B-
Walker nails it. This also begs a response highlighting the abuse, neglect and death that has taken place under public agencies and oversight.
- Norseman - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 10:43 am:
If it’s not an ad, it’s not worth rating. IMHO, web videos only play to your hardcore base. A candidate needs to convince others to vote for him/her.
- Not a bot of any sort - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 10:43 am:
The voiceover is distracting because the delivery isn’t smooth. I would guess that a female voice was a deliberate choice, but I wonder if a male voice would help sway male voters, since Rauner has such high unfavorables with women. Greg Harris’s statements were more powerful when he was off-camera and his comments were displayed. And why not just take it to Rauner with a clincher of “Bruce Rauner: Putting profits first, people second.”

It’s on the internet. It plods. Greg Harris WHY?
TV news person visual, quit hit quote banners, a shifty Rauner not a perplexed Rauner pic.
D-. Get it together Quinn campaign staff. You are giving away the summer.

Hello McFlies! You guys and gals… it isn’t a female voice over it’s a PROFESSIONAL news woman on WBBM. It says so when she starts talking. There is no voice over in this video.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 11:01 am:
Campaign videos are like the NBA summer league. Don’t mean anything.
You can be a kind of lazy in a video since you’re not on the clock. You have to be a lot sharper to hit your points in a :30 second spot

If I was Mr. Rauner I would ask Gov. Quinn “If you are so concerned about nursing home residents, why when you were Lt. Governor was the State Police ordered to stop conducting nursing home sweeps to remove unregistered sex offenders and fugitives who were terrorizing residents?”
- Responsa - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 11:23 am:
D. I too agree with the criticism or questions already raised about the Greg Harris bit. It seems like a complete non-sequitur that he’s used in this, unless he’s just paying back a favor to somebody for something.
Heh, yeah Walker– I think the same thing–that the Quinn staff is testing some of their ideas out on the always game and brutally honest CapFax readers. (Kind of like how new plays are tested out with savvy theater-going Chicago audiences, and then cleaned up before they go to Broadway.)

Rauner is going to pull down the entire GOP ticket. Why did this goof even run? #selfish

Are you under some delusion that any lieutenant governor has the power to do anything?

Lt. Governor Quinn, became Governor Quinn.
That is what LGs do.
“Slip and Sue” lacks. “Slip and Sue” is a 1st term city councilwoman, who thinks she is capable to run the 5th largest state in America.
Evelyn is Jason Plummer with a law degree and a personal injury lawsuit against her own town.
To the video,
It’s a “B”, it’s a YouTube video. It is serving its purpose of length and message. Getting it crisp in a :30 second window is the challenge, but not a hurdle needed here on YouTube.

“an advocate for defending the most vulnerable”
Do you mean politically vulnerable?
- Princess Lisa - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 6:12 pm:
If the election is a choice between dumb and dumber, Illinois will still prefer dumb over dumber. Quinn loses that race because he’s dumber.
- VanillaMan - Thursday, Jul 17, 14 @ 9:42 pm:
Not quite there. C
They’re trying to tie Rauner as unaccountable, but the accusations are subjective and emotional, not objective. If you like your politics about feelings, then you are moved -
BUT the claim is that he is unaccountable, and that takes an objective approach.
Worse, it shows the person you want to portray as unaccountable, personally speaking and countering your argument. You may not like what he said, but he was being accountable.
The ad only works if your viewers believe Rauner’s statements as facts, which few actually do.
So we end up with a clip about how a candidate’s silly high standard really isn’t realistic.
Not a surprise, and unworthy of an argument, really.
Bur you do have all those emotions going - nah, scary nursing home stories? What else have you got?
