And another one…

Friday, Aug 8, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* We have a Rauner manure caption contest already up and running, so let’s do one for the governor as well…

And I know Abe’s ax appears to hover above his head like the Sword of Damocles, but violent imagery in comments is absolutely prohibited here, so keep it light. Thanks!

  16. - John A Logan - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 10:28 am:

As you can see behind me, we do live in the land of Lincoln. I am going to work day and night to make sure this years fair is the most well attended fair in the history of this great state. One of the things that makes it such a great fair, and a great state is the fact that this flyer was printed by a union shop. I have always supported the unions throughout my career in Illinois, you might notice that there is a “union bug” printed on this flyer. Now, we don’t have to worry about too many pesky bugs this year because the temperatures have been unusually cool. However that does not mean that we can overlook global warming, because global warming is a misnomer, it is really climate change……..which reminds me…where does Bruce Rauner stand on the minimum wage issue?

I quote the lyrics from The Mikado:

To sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock,
In a pestilential prison with a life-long lock
Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp shock
From a cheap and chippy chopper on a big, black block

“I don’t have a prepared statement for you today, but I do have a unprepared statement for you today. I am the governor of a state which is home to many great Illinoisans from all across this great state of Illinois. From the great people who work the land as Honest Abe, to the ones that don’t work the land. From the great people who serve their duties overseas, to the ones that don’t serve. From the great citizens who care for our sick and elderly, to the ones that just pretend to be sick or elderly to get extra state relief - I am proud to be called the Governor or Illinois.”

  67. - 47th Ward - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 1:19 pm:

Honest Abe put all of his money into an axe haven. He bought himself a sturdy axe and used it to split rails on farms all over Central Illinois, and earned enough money to go to law school.

Railsplitters are the backbone of Illinois.

  68. - A guy... - Friday, Aug 8, 14 @ 2:02 pm:

Ya know, just like ‘ol Honest Abe back there used to say–well, Ok, I guess not (as he continues to ramble)–that’s actually been MY line all these years, but, but I betcha if President Lincoln WERE here today, he’d say, oh well–Let’s just aGREE that, oK(?), that TOGETHER, we CAN make the Will of the People the Law of the Land…the Will of the People, the Will of the People, the Will of the People…”(slowly fades off repeating it as he walks away brushing off further Questions)…!
