Even Steven, for now

Friday, Aug 29, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Remember the other day when Bruce Rauner and his chief of staff were saying that Rauner’s campaign was being outspent 2-1 by Gov. Pat Quinn and his allies? No longer

Bruce Rauner’s campaign just doubled its near future TV ad buy, sources tell Early & Often.

The camp on Thursday doubled its new flight from the period of Aug. 28 through Sept. 8.

“I’ll apologize to everbody in this room. You’re going to see my face on television more in the next two months than you’ll ever want to see it,” the Republican gubernatorial candidate told the audience at the Metropolitan Planning Council event on Thursday.

I’m guessing that Rauner will do more than just catch up come September. We’ll see, though.

    TV?
    OFF!

  2. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 11:48 am:

This is how I interpret that.

Quinn doubles the pot, Rauner just decides to “Call” Quinn, to see if Quinn either re-raises, or goes “All-In”.

Rauner has the unlimited stack of chips, “calling” Quinn’s Crew puts it right back on them to make the next funding and spending move.

For Rauner, it’s the burn rate, so make Quinn’s burn rate escalate by having Quinn’s Crew set the pace Rauner can easily match.

Quinn’s cash flow could turn out to be like that peanut butter jar you think you can scrape one more sandwich out of, while Rauner has Cosco on speed dial and has peanut butter in bulk.

=== “I’ll apologize to everbody in this room. You’re going to see my face on television more in the next two months than you’ll ever want to see it,” ===

Finally, a Raunervich pronouncement that I can believe and agree with.

This is outstanding news. I hope he continues to show his folks side.

  5. - The Captain - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:09 pm:

On 6/30 Quinn reported about $11.7 million CoH and has reported another $1.5 million on A-1’s since then for about $13.2 million available to spend. On 6/30 Rauner reported about $3.5 million CoH and has reported another $8.1 million on A-1’s since then for about $11.6 million available to spend.

Outside money probably won’t be even and who knows which campaign will outraise the other during the final two months but as of right now these campaigns look relatively evenly matched on the financial resources available to them. The idea that one has some huge financial advantage over the other is just fundraising spin.

Rauner can write himself a million dollar check anytime.

Quinn can’t write himself a million dollar check at all.

Quinn sat on cash all through the primary…

Rauner spent all through the primary, never batting an eye, and raising six figure sums from sources other than his own checking account.

This ain’t spin, it’s the Rauner burn rate on point, Rauner has a huge, huge, HUGE monetary advantage. Period.

Saying Rauner doesn’t have that advantage is just fundraising spin.

  7. - JS Mill - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:16 pm:

@The Captain- Not sure I agree with your spin comment. Rauner is heavily self funding so CoH is only relevant, as it pertains to Rauner, in so much as it is what he wants in the fund at the time. At any time he can turn on the spigot and pour as much as he wants into the campaign. That is not a criticism, it is what it is.

  8. - The Captain - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:24 pm:

Rauner complaining about being outspent 2-1 so he can raise money while having roughly the same amount of funds available in his campaign account is fundraising spin.

Telling me that Rauner can write himself a check whenever he wants was covered here: ” who knows which campaign will outraise the other during the final two months”.

  9. - Del Clinkton - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:27 pm:

Bruce decided to run for public office. With the exception of any minor children, his life is now public. And his sense of “entitlement” that this is not the case is arrogant.

You made your made your bed Brucie-boy, now sleep in it.

Dont like it? Then drop-out of the race.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 12:30 pm:

    - The Captain -,

They are not, nor will they be, evenly matched.

The post’s title says it all

    “Even Steven for now”

Rauner is complaining, under the guise of being out raised, but Rauner is “being outspent” because Rauner is allowing it, not because he can’t keep up.

It’s a play on words Rauner is trying, and trying to seem like he is not the financial leader in this race, all the while, unless Rauber forgets the account numbers he is wiring 7 figures to himself, it’s not even remotely close in the financials.

  11. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:14 pm:

He was never going to be outspent.

  12. - VanillaMan - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:29 pm:

    Gee Willy -
You know that Old Patty can’t write himself a check for a million, but he sure can figure out a way to get $54,500,000 to his voter base in South Cook, can’t he?

I don’t mind it when Rauner spends his money, but I do get a tad ticked off when Quinn spends ours.

  13. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:36 pm:

–I don’t mind it when Rauner spends his money, but I do get a tad ticked off when Quinn spends ours.–

Gee VMan, should we be ticked off that our money is being spent on you to do a job today?

  14. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:40 pm:

    Oh - VanillaMan -,

Are you saying something negative about Quinn? I though we are suppose to keep things above that, stay positive?

  15. - MrJM - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 1:55 pm:

It’s only August and Bruce Rauner’s commercials have already ruined Hulu.

  16. - VanillaMan - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 2:27 pm:

    Wordy -
    I’m not at work.

    OW -
    My bad.

    MrJM -
You are correct. We’re watching Rugrats on Amazon and Rauner is all over them.

  17. - VanillaMan - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 2:27 pm:

    Not Amazon - Hulu.

  18. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 2:33 pm:

VMan, it shows your level of dedication that you’re just as productive at home as you are at work.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 29, 14 @ 3:11 pm:

    - VanillaMan -,

I look forward to you staying so positive.
