No - AA- working for Rauner calls it untrue.

  9. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:06 pm:

    Stephanie Neely???

  10. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:08 pm:

Dopey on Stephanie Neely, does Quinn get to choose Rauner’s #2, maybe he would have picked Slip and Sue for Bruce

  11. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:10 pm:

Jay Levine didn’t provide any data on bids submitted.

Rauner’s hypocrisy regarding hiring Blacks is flooring.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:10 pm:

“Failed miserably” - glad that isn’t a drinking game.

  13. - One to the Dome - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:11 pm:

    task force….that’s what insulting

  14. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:12 pm:

The record of Rauber in hiring his own firm and questioning it’s truth without a name is ridiculous.

  15. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:12 pm:

I heard a Meeks radio ad for Rauner on WVON today.

How did Meeks manage to keep his church going while he was in state government?

Rauner has a passion for public education. Just ask Arne Duncan.

  16. - Concerned Voter - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:13 pm:

Quinn loves to connect himself to that little league team

  17. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:13 pm:

Quinn naming AA members who influence in Administration

  18. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:13 pm:

take a shot every time Rauner says “my wife and I gave money.”

  19. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:15 pm:

I guess Quinn is taking for granted the AA community. Rauner’s main talking point of his pivots

  20. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:15 pm:

When Rauner said we need to focus on maximum income, I thought maybe, just maybe, he was about to come out in support of a MAXIMUM WAGE — say, about $500.000.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:16 pm:

Jay Levine feeding Rauner - to give 3 criteria points

  22. - snucka - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:16 pm:

Rauner worked so hard to memorize/recite his “black friends”.

“Reverened James Meeks, Reverend Corey Brooks, etc.”… repeat, repeat, repeat

  23. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:17 pm:

Quinn adamantly adamantly hammering Rauner on min. wage…

  24. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:18 pm:

Rauner really likes lying…about the African American executives in his company, about his being in favor of raising the minimum wage….

  25. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:18 pm:

Quinn looking feeble after 6 years, but falls back on referendum…

  26. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:20 pm:

Rauner supports a Bikini Wax tax.

  27. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:20 pm:

Rauner says Quinn is playing loose with the truth. now he’s giving the Harold Washington statement. Pat Quinn is good at spinning the truth.

that is the big lying pot calling the Governor,,,,

  28. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:20 pm:

    Taxes - service taxes

  29. - Concerned Voter - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:20 pm:

    Whats a barber cut? :-)

  30. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:21 pm:

    Rauner talking quicker…

  31. - snucka - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:22 pm:

    Rauner much more aggressive tonight.

  32. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:22 pm:

only a Republican billionaire who takes advantage of these loopholes would….. great line from Quinn

  33. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:22 pm:

Okay, Bruce — support a tax on futures trading and other securities transactions.

  34. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:23 pm:

Quinn looks more pleading his case as answers than just answers, help or hurt, dunno

  35. - Concerned Voter - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:24 pm:

Nice non answer on the income tax increase issue by Quinn.

  36. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:24 pm:

Jay Levine hitting Quinn on the income tax issue and timing.

  37. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:24 pm:

    Levine trying to corner Quinn…

  38. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:25 pm:

    Rauner & Levine tag-team…

  39. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:25 pm:

I have a tough time believing that municipalities are actually getting their share of taxes collected from IL consumers on utilities and cell phone bills.

  40. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:26 pm:

If I wanted to hire a super-salesman I would hire Bruce Rauner in a heartbeat. He not only could sell ice to Eskimos, he would without compunction.

Bif I wanted a salesman who cared about doing the morally right thing, I’d hire Pat. But I’d never be able to get him to sell any ice to Eskimos.

  41. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:26 pm:

who IS organizing the swearing protestors outside of the debate? this is an anti Quinn effort. hope some reporter figures it out/takes photos of the idiots.

  42. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:26 pm:

Won’t release returns, but is such a philanthropist…

  43. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:27 pm:

“Don’t voters deserve to have a little more detail?” great followup comment from Shropshire to Rauner who gives a shifty answer. oh, blind trust, that’s the answer…..

  44. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:27 pm:

Darn!! TWICE in one day!! Anonymous at 6:26 is me.

  45. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:27 pm:

No view of taxes, “honesty” questioned of Rauner and tax returns

  46. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:27 pm:

“Grow his own bank account” “mitt romney releases schedules” great comments from Quinn. “his right to hide is not more important than the public’s right to know.” out of the park Quinn!

  47. - Concerned Voter - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:28 pm:

“But I’d never be able to get him to sell any ice to Eskimos.”

Depends, does Madigan say its okay to do it? :-)

  48. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:28 pm:

Bruce should come out for supporting the Robin Hood Tax — half a percent on all trading transactions.

  49. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:28 pm:

Charter schools - falling behind public schools “in the paper” - Quinn

  50. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:30 pm:

Professor Quinn explains to us what STEM means.

  51. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:31 pm:

I personally funded teacher training in Chicago, my wife and I are dedicated….sounds like time for another shot….

  52. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:31 pm:

Jay Levine’s nickname - “the crutch”

    Payton Prep opening.

  53. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:32 pm:

“Every parent deserves to choose a school that fits their child best.” shouldn’t that Rauner statement come back to haunt him? Hello clouting your kid in!

  54. - Arthur Andersen - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:32 pm:

Feed is frustrating. Thanks for the “thingy” or I would be lost!

  55. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:34 pm:

Charter schools - Rauner donates millions, Quinn says Rauner’s numbers don’t add up

  56. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:35 pm:

@ Artie — Can you watch on TV so you can refresh capitolfax without interruption to your viewing of the live debate?

  57. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:36 pm:

Bruce wants more prison capacity. I believe that one.

  58. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:36 pm:

Rauner lies like a rug, Quinn sticks to the truth.

  59. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:37 pm:

    Rauner continually shaking head “No”

Quinn fails again. Community policing, incarceration differences

  60. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:40 pm:

Jay Levine asks Quinn about NRI…

Quinn makes it people not dollars

  61. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:40 pm:

“That doesn’t boom any economy”–nice line by Quinn, on Rauner, his profits and outsourcing business.

  62. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:40 pm:

Bruce just cannot say “No, I will not ban assault weapons.” but his crazy answer can be turned into a commercial anyway as can Quinn’s strong answer on a girl killed by an assault weapon. this is red meat for the Chicago media market. assault weapon on the Blue Line shot at a CTA train….shocking last week.

  63. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:40 pm:

Tonight’s program features Jay Levine in the role of the jaundiced journalist.

  64. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:41 pm:

    Failed miserably…Rauner’s starting point

  65. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:41 pm:

Rauner is the king of the smirk again tonight.

  66. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:42 pm:

OOOOOH Rauner accused of trying to buy votes with his “donations.”

  67. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:42 pm:

Bruce “I care, but not enough to hire you” Rauner

  68. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:42 pm:

    Donated millions of years…

That’s the pivot of any money issues or buying election.

  69. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:43 pm:

    Quinn pivots to Ford…

  70. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:44 pm:

Rauner says he’s been a BUSiness builder. How does he decide when he’s a business builder and a BIDness builder?

    Just wondering…

  71. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:44 pm:

Quinn being asked to speak on behalf of the wealthier school districts in the state by Perry??

  72. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:44 pm:

Education funding away from wealthy districts..

  73. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:45 pm:

has anyone calculated how much Rauner has promised he will personally fund? it’s not like he can pay for the entire government but that is the feeling he gives you.

  74. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:46 pm:

Beachwood Reporter spot on with Rauner and Meeks’ homophobia!

  75. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:48 pm:

wow. be still my heart. Jay Levine asks Rauner a sort of tough question about taking responsibility for his failures.

  76. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:48 pm:

Levine to Rauner, rehabbing Rauner, giving him chance to talk about business failures open-ended

  77. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:48 pm:

Rauner thinks he’s helping himself by shaking his head no.

Good enough for me. That’s all I needed to know.

Whatever it was he said, Pat must have been lying!

  78. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:49 pm:

Quinn gets a chance to run the list of Rauner failures. My opponent always takes the money but takes no responsibility.

  79. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:49 pm:

Quinn hits negatives of know Rauner failures, nothing new

  80. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:50 pm:

Rauner is having severe difficulties in accepting any responsibility. He’s fumbling with his words.

  81. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:51 pm:

“pension reform will be constitutional” - Quinn… Yikes

  82. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:51 pm:

Quinn said Rauner never takes any responsibility and Rauner forgot to shake his head no!

  83. - PoolGuy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:53 pm:

high school kids in debate class would not stand there, shake there head no and smirk constantly. bad form

  84. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:53 pm:

    Rauner “MJM, cronies… Negatives abound”

Gaming no answer it seems for both .

  85. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:54 pm:

    Ooh, Question…

  86. - PoolGuy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:54 pm:

both are wrong on pensions. but Quinn almost has to stick by his guns. if he says it might be found unconstitutional now it could have negative impact on our credit rating. best to wait for the courts to decide.

  87. - Percival - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:55 pm:

Rauner is doing a lot better tonight - agree? But the “local control” of gaming idea is perhaps his worst policy position. It is a gift to Rahm and recipe for mob control in Chicago.

  88. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:55 pm:

Rauner says it is a false accusation. he does not say that the statement is false. but Rauner makes a strong hit back at him.

  89. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:55 pm:

    False accusation…

    Jeri Ryan… Here it comes

  90. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:56 pm:

the income tax hike question is a strong question from Rauner and the commitment answer from Quinn is strong. “Money can’t buy you facts.” great comment.

  91. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:57 pm:

    Rauner asked snidely.

Then asks no tax increase if Quinn…loses?

    Makes no sende

  92. - NewWestSuburbanGOP'er - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:57 pm:

    Rauner is a slick salesman.

  93. - Just Me - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:58 pm:

Quinn keeps saying that Rauner supports a tax plan that lowers his taxes by a million. Does anyone really think Rauner cares about a measly million dollars? He spends almost double that each week running for Governor!

  94. - Mighty M. Mouse - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 6:59 pm:

There’s nothing better that Rauner accusing Quinn of lying. Lord, I LOVED hearing that!

  95. - crazybleedingheart - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:01 pm:

Why does Mary Ann Ahern keep clutching her pearls over swearing protesters (on twitter)? And what are the protesters protesting? I missed her reporting on that.

  96. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:01 pm:

“Quinn keeps saying that Rauner supports a tax plan that lowers his taxes by a million. Does anyone really think Rauner cares about a measly million dollars?”

It’s not just Rauner, but the right wing think tanks to whom Rauner contributes, and his supporters. They don’t want to pay a higher income tax, and they invest a lot of money in doing so.

  97. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:02 pm:

When it comes to gambling, I don’t understand why these candidates will not allow the race tracks in Illinois to have video games, slots, and table games.

Every bar surrounding them, near and far, can have video games.

Let the tracks do the same.

  98. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:04 pm:

Here’s a question for you crazybleedingheart: Why is Schneider always on the phone in his campaign commercials while a voice over states he supports the message? Too busy to be filmed saying he supports the message, but not too busy to be filmed on the phone?

  99. - Percival - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:06 pm:

Rauner strong at the close! I agree he finally dropped the smirk and showed some fire for once. Quinn had a lot better answer for the tax hike question than he gave, starting with Rauner’s call for a sales tax on services. The Quinn one liners were very good and may echo long after the TV lights and cameras are turned off.

  100. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:07 pm:

want to know about the protestors. cannot believe that Rauner is stupid enough to pay them directly, but if the work is as shoddy as is some work in his companies, who knows? looks like this is of interest to reporters based on the scribble live comments.

  101. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:07 pm:

Do both Quinn and Rauner reject a Biking Wax Tax?

  102. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:08 pm:

Who changed the “i” in bikini to “g”?

  103. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:08 pm:

Rauner won on points, his last question and response to Quinn question and snide way if asking his question, that reduced the margin of the “win” to an overall draw.

    Gotta finish

  104. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:09 pm:

@crazybleedingheart, sounds like there is a mob of protestors swearing as they yell. that sounds like something to find out about to me too, not just MA Ahern interested. they don’t sound like people with whom one would want to be associated so who brought them?

  105. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:17 pm:

is there an actual photo of the piece of the deposition which says that Rauner says he will bury her, etc?

  106. - On the run - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:26 pm:

Rauner won way better prepared this time. Could have buried Quinn when he had chance over education funding. Quinn sold tax hike for education yet it didn’t happen last time.

  107. - Rockford's Finest - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:34 pm:

Anyone have a link to the full debate?

  108. - AlabamaShake - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:38 pm:

**Could have buried Quinn when he had chance over education funding. **

And by, “buried Quinn,” you mean he could have continued to blatantly lie about Quinn’s education budgets?

I’ll let Rich take it from here:
    http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20141004/ISSUE01/310049971/rauner-is-wrong-school-funds-rising-under-quinn

  109. - Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:49 pm:

Are videos of these debates posted anywhere?

If so, could Rich pretty please post links?

  110. - One To the Dome - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 7:56 pm:

Quinn did a nice pivot to Karen Lewis early on and nice to mention AA in his administration in leadership. Rauner couldnt/didnt name one AA (or percentages) of the number of AA in his firm. Rauner did come out more forcefull, but no knock out and still no details.

  111. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 8:25 pm:

new game for everyone to play….Where’s Evelyn?

  112. - Lunchbox - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 8:40 pm:

Having just watched the debate on my DVR…Rauner was markedly better than in Peoria. He was smoother in his answers and tripped over himself a lot less in his answers.

Was it just me, or when Quinn went on the attack, did the audience gasp? I noticed it when Quinn said Rauner talking about the minimum wage was “loose talk” and when Quinn brought up Rauner’s proposed service taxes. Thought it was interesting, since from the applause before the debate, it seemed like a pro-Quinn crowd.

  113. - Hotel Ibiza - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:09 pm:

Slam dunk for Rauner! 2 Wins - Rauner / 2 Losses Quinn.
Quinn never answered the last question.

  114. - Del Clinkton - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:15 pm:

    Bruce, just so arrogant.

  115. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:15 pm:

and now DRauner is back on NBC with a commercial chiding us for attacking Bruce. Well, you just put yourself back in the mix again, and let’s start the tally on how much money you have given to conservative Republican causes DRauner.

  116. - Hotel Ibiza - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:20 pm:

The voters of Illinois will do the right and responsible thing and that is elect Bruce Rauner as the next Governor of the great state of Illinois.

  117. - Whatever - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:35 pm:

Chances are, few people watched - especially undecideds - and regardless of either candidate’s performance, few votes were impacted. Sad.

  118. - walker - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:35 pm:

almost no one watched it versus other popular shows and the MLB playoffs.

So the “winner” will be who had the most one-liners or phrases that will play well in ads and newscasts.

The “loser” will be who made an equally short faux-pas.

  119. - Beetlejuice - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:35 pm:

Quinn “debates” exactly like he’s run the state straight into the dumper

  120. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:40 pm:

===So the “winner” will be who had the most one-liners or phrases that will play well in ads and newscasts.===

They were playing to the newscasts and Ad Guys, yes.

If I were Rauner, I haveta be wondering why I didn’t debate more, with Quinn trying to play defense and offense to Rauner mostly on offense and laughing at attacks.

  121. - Illinoise - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 9:45 pm:

This was a “home” game for Quinn, and an “away” for Rauner. Quinn had his second man in the audience and the cadence of most of his answers proved it. You could tell Rauner was uncomfortable and yet handled himself well in spite of that. I think both candidates were able to get away with avoiding the questions too easily, but Rauner seemed to have fewer answers than Quinn. Quinn had better one liners theoughout, and his attacks were engaging and humorous. Rauner’s attacks seemed more nasty, which may end up backfiring, particularly with the undecided suburban women they are both courting. And his smirk, again, is really distracting. What is up with that?

  122. - Dirty Red - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:00 pm:

Rauner using Harold Washington…AGAIN? Let the man rest in peace!

  123. - Brookport Brandon - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:07 pm:

Rauner is usually a smart , slick speaker but his demeanor hurt him. His discomfort on specific questions, especially about his business travails, is unsettling to watch. Quinn by contrast demonstrates a command and comfort with issues, although he sometimes has a pained expression on his face. You can tell he takes the gravity and pressures of the office seriously.

  124. - Jeanne Dough - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:13 pm:

    “Chances are, few people watched.”

It isn’t simply due to a lack of interest: The debate wasn’t televised in the “netherlands.” And there are still many places in the state where internet speeds render live feeds pretty useless. One-liners and sounds bites are all we get.

  125. - Beetlejuice - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:14 pm:

Has anyone payed attention to Quinn’s mannerisms during these debates? It’s has if he’s going to lay egg. Just watching these two debates, it’s no wonder Illinois is in the mess its in.

  126. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:20 pm:

===The debate wasn’t televised in the “netherlands.” ===

Hinterlands is the word I think you’re looking for.

Most Illinoisans live in the Chicago media market.

  127. - Jeanne Dough - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 10:50 pm:

“Hinterlands is the word I think you’re looking for.”

Yes, it was. . . making it painfully obvious that the rest of us need to be educated as well.

  128. - DuPage - Tuesday, Oct 14, 14 @ 11:42 pm:

Quinn pointed out he paid the full amount to the pension systems each year he has been governor. He may be counting the state contributions to TRS and SURS as part of education spending.

Rauner carefully worded an answer saying he would direct the dollars into the classroom. That might mean he plans to resume diverting the pension contributions to other uses as has been done before.

    ===laughing at attacks===

You’re right, Willy, I don’t think a man with the type of personality that Rauner has can be hurt by ANY kind of attack.

He’s like the Terminator in that respect. Utterly fearless, a bully without much compunction and without any conscience.

” elect Bruce Rauner as the next Governor of the great state of Illinois”

Y’know, to hear Rauner talk, Illinois is actually a pretty terrible state.

…which is whatever; I get that the challenger always has to do the “two minutes to Armageddon and we’re fighting for the lord”, thing, but guys like Bush and Reagan always just made it seem like, “Hey, it’s okay, you made a mistake by electing this one guy, but we’re stronger than him, we will prevail.” Rauner basically implicates everyone, including “his” party, and says the people who vote for them are pretty suspect, too.

  131. - Peoria guy - Wednesday, Oct 15, 14 @ 8:15 am:

Rauner was much better in this debate than the first.

As to supporters/demonstrators outside the debate, in Peoria the Quinn demonstrators were profane and agitators. Rauner’s were peaceful and showed a great deal of restraint. No idea on last night’s debate.

  132. - Hotel Ibiza - Wednesday, Oct 15, 14 @ 8:44 am:

Pat Quinn really is clueless about the sad economic condition of the state. He could pass a polygraph when he says the economy in Illinois is in really good shape. He doesn’t comprehend anything about the high rate of unemployment—relative to other states. Quinn either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that there are areas in the State, most right under his nose, where the black and Hispanic unemployment rates are 40% or higher. Quinn either doesn’t know or care that fewer than 25% of the black and Hispanic 4th graders in the Chicago Public Schools read at grade level—and that is not a spending problem because we are spending an average of $15,000 per kid per year in CPS. None of the questions probed or challenged Quinn on these issues last night. Those journalists couldn’t probe or challenge a Democratic Party politician if their lives depended on it. Really.

    @Hotel:

How much is the Rauner campaign paying you to troll blogs? Just curious.

  134. - Del Clinkton - Wednesday, Oct 15, 14 @ 9:01 am:

Journalists don’t “probe” or “challenge” the Republican Party very much either. Really.

  135. - Arthur Andersen - Wednesday, Oct 15, 14 @ 9:27 am:

Actually, it was televised in the hinterlands. On a one-hour tape delay on WCIA’s sister station.
