*** UPDATED x1 *** Afternoon video/ad dump

Tuesday, Oct 28, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Let’s start with something I don’t normally do - post legislative ads in the public section. But Steve Reick, who’s running against Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock), asked if I had seen his cable TV buy. I hadn’t, but I checked and found a $1961 buy on the lists I post every day for subscribers.

He has two ads, but here’s one of them, which features the Democrat that all Republicans love to hate

His other ad is here.

* Meanwhile, Gov. Pat Quinn’s brother narrates a video about his family. It’s called “Notepad”

* Here’s one called “‘Former Acting President’ for Gov. Pat Quinn”

* Moving over to Congress, the NRCC’s new TV ad paints Brad Schneider as a partisan and part of the problem

* American Unity PAC joins in and pairs Bob Dold with Mark Kirk

* House Majority PAC says Bob Dold is too far right

* The NRCC also has two new ads attacking Bill Enyart. Both tie him to President Obama. “Calls”

“Plain”

* Congressman Enyart also has a couple of new ads. “Choice”

“Post”

That ought to keep you occupied for a while.

*** UPDATE *** The Congressional Leadership Fund says they’ve bought $500K on St. Louis broadcast TV to air this ad attacking Enyart. Word’s been going around that the race is tightening up, by the way. Watch it

That Reick ad is awful. And seriously? A $1,900 buy? LOL.

I’d love for someone - anyone? - to beat Jack Franks. But Reick sure isn’t the guy to do it.

  2. - Mega - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 1:43 pm:

Quinn bio video is a SNOOOOOOOOZE FEST. And way too long.

  3. - Hacksaw Jim - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 1:45 pm:

Beat me to the punch Alabama… Reich ad is one of the worst I have ever seen.

  4. - Under Further Review - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 1:54 pm:

I enjoyed the Quinn family chronicles, but it left the impression that Pat Quinn’s best days are behind him.

His brother omitted to say that he is no longer the basketball coach at Fenwick High School. He was removed from that position, but is still a teacher. I think that a coaching change was made about two years ago.

The piece really went to great lengths to score points with African American voters.

It’s fun and very interesting discussing the commercials but I am officially tired of them. At this point, a Comcast commercial might even be interesting.

  6. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 1:56 pm:

    MAKE IT STOP!

  7. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 1:59 pm:

Interesting that the Quinn family used to have a business in Englewood.

  8. - Belle - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:03 pm:

I didn’t mean YOU should post Comcast commercials…I meant on TV.

  9. - Carl Nyberg - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:03 pm:

It seems like Republicans whine up a storm when self-funding Republicans are attacked for being rich. “Don’t attack success!”

But when it comes to politics, Republicans are quite willing to attack the success of Michael Madigan.

Republicans hardly ever (never?) win attacking Madigan, but they keep doing it over and over.

This leaves Democrats the niche of explaining what they are going to do for voters.

When voters are offered a choice between a Democrat who shares the values of the community and has a plan to get stuff done and a Republican who wants to blame Mike Madigan… Most of the time the voters choose the Democrat.

Why don’t Republicans campaign on doing stuff for people?

  10. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:15 pm:

Unless she is wearing a “Fire Madigan” shirt, and puts on a “Fire Madigan” hat, and drinks from a “Fire Madigan” mug she got from a Krups “Fire Madigan” coffee maker next to the “Fire Madigan” toaster, I have no idea what her point was.

  11. - G'Kar - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:16 pm:

I miss the good ole’ days of campaign ads like these from 1800: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLj6yY4P_Rg

  12. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:39 pm:

    I like the Reick ad!

It reminds me of those adorable kids selling candy bars outside WalMart.

I don’t even listen to what they are saying, I just think it is so cute they memorized all those big words!

    More please!

  13. - Hacksaw Jim - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:39 pm:

=== Why don’t Republicans campaign on doing stuff for people? ===

Maybe they don’t want to do stuff for people?

  14. - John A Logan - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:40 pm:

GKar, that video deserves its own post. Hilarious!

  15. - Under Further Review - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 2:42 pm:

Excellent G’Kar! That is exactly the point that I tried to make previously, but it is really something to hear the actual words from the 1800 campaign.

Late in life, Adams and Jefferson reconciled and resumed their former friendship through correspondence.

  17. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:00 pm:

is it over yet? I’d rather be watching the Bears lose to the Packers than all these commercials.

  18. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:02 pm:

He has two ads, but here’s one of them, which features the Democrat that all Republicans love to hate…

Except Oswego Willy, who, btw, still claims to be a Republican.

  19. - Norseman - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:08 pm:

Notepad video is a perfect solution for sleep problems.

  20. - Kyle Hillman - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:16 pm:

If ONLY Jack Franks was a Madigan loyalist.

  21. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:17 pm:

===Except Oswego Willy, who, btw, still claims to be a Republican.===

Oh, - VanillaMan -, I’ll do a positive Ad for you to make you feel better, lol.

I respect MJM’s Crew. If you don’t respect them, you can’t beat them.

I’m comfortable that I know I’m a Republican. If you don’t understand me, it’s on you.

    ===I like the Reick ad!===

Isn’t that Ad, a negative Ad? Yeah, I’m pretty sure it is.

  22. - A guy... - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:26 pm:

After watching the Super 8mm Quinn home movies I just couldn’t go on.

  23. - Enviro - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 3:50 pm:

Seven more days, but who’s counting?

  24. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 4:03 pm:

I have to think the Reick ad is one of the worst political ads I have ever seen. I am so glad I do not live in that media market.

  25. - Steve Reick - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 5:13 pm:

Tough crowd. I hope none of you live in my district, or at least aren’t swayed by TV advertising. Would it help if I told you that I’d never put ketchup on a hot dog?

  26. - VanillaMan - Tuesday, Oct 28, 14 @ 10:05 pm:

    It was cute Steve.
    Just not original.
    The amateur look is memorable.
Next time get a couple of adorable first graders holding signs they hand made and have them tell us to vote for you.

I can’t say no to an adorable kid.
