Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis released a video Friday night throwing her support behind Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia as he prepares to challenge Mayor Rahm Emanuel in late February.
Lewis had been preparing her own run for mayor before being diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor a few weeks ago. The video features Lewis wearing a fashionable head covering and offering her endorsement of Garcia in a series of jump cuts.

Garcia is the keynote speaker at the CTU’s 2014 Legislators and Educators Appreciation Dinner Friday night.
Also running for Chicago mayor against Emanuel is Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd).

Caps are off, her committee could front some seed money too.
That would be a fun race, no matter the side.
Looking forward to it.

As an aside;
Bless her. Praying for her, and I wish her the best.

Does this mean that this site will be open this weekend thanks to its proximity to election day.
BTW, it shows that Lewis is still making a choice for next year’s mayoral election of course. Garcia so far hasn’t announced for mayor yet.

I’m voting for Garcia.

Offering her support and encouragement for a nascent mayoral campaign is fine. But it’s really way too soon for mayoral “endorsements”. It’s worrisome that Karen feels the need to do it publicly now.
- Wicker Parker - Friday, Oct 31, 14 @ 11:29 pm:
An early endorsement from Karen Lewis is important for Garcia to get boots on the ground to collect petition signatures and to prevent Fioretti from coalescing the progressive support. I for one am excited about his candidacy, but I expect him to devote significant time to fundraising so his campaign doesn’t turn into DelValle deja vu before I will get fully behind him.

I hope that Karen Lewis stays strong and recovers from her illness.

Also running is who? Bob Fioretti? He’s run for so many offices, or floated his name for soany offices it’s not funny. Then he mislead south loop voters on local issues.

Chuy has a good chance to win this race. He needs to get out in the community and talk to the disgruntled residents of this city. We are looking for real change at city hall. Removing Rahm is the first step to real change in Chicago.
