Looking for a job?

Tuesday, Nov 18, 2014 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Those of you who are nobody what nobody sent can now click here and apply for a job with the incoming Rauner administration.

* From the required “Vetting” section

Business / Lobbying: Describe any business relationship, dealing or financial transaction which you have had during the last five years, whether for yourself, on behalf of a client, or acting as an agent which you believe may constitute an appearance of impropriety or could result in a potential conflict of interest in the position to which you want to be appointed. If none, please state. […]

Convictions: Have you ever been convicted of or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere or forfeited collateral for any criminal violation other than a minor traffic offense? (Minor traffic offenses do not include the Illinois offenses of operating under the influence of liquor, operating while impaired, reckless driving or the equivalent offenses in other states) […]

Opposition / Associations: Do you have any expectations of any group or individual voicing concern about your possible appointment? […]

Issues: In the last five years, have you been publicly identified, in person or by organizational membership, with a particularly controversial national, state or local issue? […]

Submission of Views: In the last five years, have you submitted oral or written views to any governmental authority, whether executive or legislative, or to the news media on any particularly controversial issue other than in an official governmental capacity? […]

Controversy: Is there anything in your personal or professional life that would cause controversy for you or the governor during a public review of your candidacy or your service as a gubernatorial appointee?

Seems like standard stuff.

I hope that he plans to change this by 1/1/15, since the Job Opportunities for Qualified Applicants Act will prohibit inquiring into an applicant’s criminal background during the application process.

Are these minimum wage jobs we’re talking about here, or does he expect these employees to work for tips?

===Opposition / Associations: Do you have any expectations of any group or individual voicing concern about your possible appointment?===

    This is one question that says;

Who do we know that won’t want you, so we can skip the rest of your application?

It’s their Shop, I wish them the best. No snark.

vinron is correct, plus asking about misdemeanors may be a violation of the human rights act

  6. - so... - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:22 am:

Actually, as I read the statute, Governments are not bound by the Job Opportunities for Qualified Applicants Act.

From the act: “‘Employer’ means any person or private entity that has 15 or more employees in the current or preceding calendar year, and any agent of such an entity or person.”

And the main index page leading into this jobs page has a bright red “DONATE” button in the top right corner.

How much does one have to donate to get a job in the Baron von Carhartt administration?

  11. - Soccermom - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:32 am:

Soccermom is looking for a new job, but somehow this doesn’t seem like the right opportunity…

  12. - VM - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:36 am:

    Standard stuff, I agree.

The real question is whether they will actually use these submissions to consider employment and appointment, or whether this (like so many other transition web sites) just leads to a black hole.

Honestly, no snark. Just saying that it would be a real change if the web site was actually used for recruitment instead of just public relations.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:38 am:

One of my favorite movies is Kevin Smith’s “Jersey Girl”

    Roger Ebert’s review

    http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/jersey-girl-2004

I won’t give too much away, but “To the Post”…

There is a scene where the lead character is on a job interview (Ben Affleck), being interviewed by 2 publicists (Matt Daman Jason Lee) and the interview is really about meeting the Lead whose career “history” is legend.

The lead is told, “You’re a legend. We bow to you!”

“You think enough of me to give me a job?”

The interviewers laugh and say “no way”

Great scene. When I read some of the questions, made me think of that scene immediately.

OW, I have the world’s biggest crush on Kevin Smith. I interviewed him once and just fell in love…

Apply now for a job with extremely low prospect of a pay raise, if not a furlough here and there, that will supervise a decreasing staff with less funding. Expect frequent criticism, long thankless hours, and micromanagement from young gubernatorial staffers whose egos are bigger than their knowledge base.

  22. - Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:54 am:

It could be shorter. Just two questions:

    1) Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the Democrat Party?

    2) Are you now, r have you ever been a member of a union?

  23. - Knome Sane - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 11:02 am:

Recruiter: Have you ever been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor? That’s robbery, rape, car theft, that sort of thing.

    John Winger: Convicted? No.

    Russell Ziskey: Never convicted.

….so may questions left off the list. Maybe those are for the second interview?

That’s because Quinn already issued an executive order for State hiring in 2013: http://nelp.3cdn.net/42c25cad5cdf17e461_79m6b9t0o.pdf

Guess they weren’t planning on a Republican Governor anytime soon…

What issues does the Rauner administration consider “controversial”?

  32. - Precinct Captain - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 11:34 am:

    “Illinois Is Back”

I guess just the sheer force of Bruce’s personality has brought us “back.” Of course, if one were to believe his budget plans then “back” means the good old days of not paying our bills, spending without adequate revenues, and a growing pension mess.

Gotta admit, I sure miss state government. Le sigh…

I have a hunch it misses you.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 11:51 am:

    - Colossus -, it really speaks to how good Kevin Smith is a a writer, as Ebert notes in the review. Our good taste is well founded here. I enjoy how Smith goes about his business.

Two things worked against it in acceptance; JLo, which she was severely edited out because of the “Bennifer” thing and Ben having to carry the story, which he did, but few gave him the credit he deserved.

George Carlin? How great was he? Worth the watch.

    To the Post,

I guess including you are proficient in ExCel and WordPerfect isn’t seen as it one was eh, with all this online application stuff…

Did Slip and Sue fill out this same questionnaire?

  38. - Soccermom - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 12:19 pm:

A guy — I appreciate the thought, but I think this one knocks me out of contention:

“In the last five years, have you submitted oral or written views to any governmental authority, whether executive or legislative, or to the news media on any particularly controversial issue other than in an official governmental capacity? […]”

  39. - Pot calling kettle - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 12:20 pm:

For a psych question they can use this:

Which of Gov. Rauner’s homes is your favorite? Explain.

  40. - Lunchbox - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 12:54 pm:

I applied– that was easy. Civil servant Lunchbox on the way.

  41. - Suburbanon - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 1:30 pm:

Speaking of potential embarrassing information: According to the Chicago Tribune story, the website has a section asking for donations of $25 to $5,000 for transition. That’s an embarassing news story just waiting to happen if a donor also gets a job.

  48. - RNUG - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 9:37 pm:

    Rich & MrM,

Actually, I think this line on the application covers it:

“Have you ever used, or have you ever been known by, any other name?, If yes, provide name(s) and explain:”

  49. - À guy - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 9:59 pm:

  50. - Soccermom - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:00 pm:

I once told a man: “We’ll always have Paris.”

He replied: “The city or the plaster?”

  51. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Nov 18, 14 @ 10:16 pm:

I’m still up for that bus tour of the state.

    Maybe in the Spring…
