  1. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:39 pm:

    “Beth. Purvis. (Pause) who?”

  2. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:39 pm:

“My nose didn’t grow. Your thinking of Quinnochio!”

  3. - Concerned - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:39 pm:

“$250,000 is just chump change to me”

  4. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:40 pm:

    Huh?

  5. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:40 pm:

“I pay her well to hide her from snoops like you. See, smart as a fox..,”

  6. - Mama - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:40 pm:

What? That does not answer the question.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:41 pm:

    “If she’s ever available to you, you’d know she’s a superstar…”

  8. - Norseman - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:42 pm:

No hug, how about puckering up?

  9. - walker - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:43 pm:

    “She needs a hug.”

  10. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:45 pm:

“You’ll meet Ms. Purvis once someone hands over that Willy character I hear about to me”

  11. - A guy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:45 pm:

I’m not the one here who needs to get used to the concept of “co-equal”.

It’s not that tough. Should be able to figure it out by Sunday.

Film is in the can, your choice.

  12. - Bogey Golfer - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:46 pm:

Quoting Lauren Bacall: “You just put your lips together and blow.”

  13. - A guy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:46 pm:

    === Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:45 pm:

“You’ll meet Ms. Purvis once someone hands over that Willy character I hear about to me”===

He’s the one pest who’s penetrated the bubble! lol

  14. - 47th Ward - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:46 pm:

Time may change me, but I can’t trace time.

    ===

So what then, a 50% causation standard and a one-year property tax freeze on non-home rule units in exchange for a $3 billion income tax hike?

Not going to get done by Sunday, but I think there would be enough House Dems to put on a structured roll call to get us close.

The ultimate question remains: how many House GOPs can find the green button on these three votes?

  15. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:46 pm:

“Would you rather talk to Evelyn, she’s right over there…”

  16. - JS Mill - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:47 pm:

“Oopsie! I didn’t have to answer to you when I was at the charter school.”

  17. - Dave Dahl - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:48 pm:

    Never nervous

  18. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:48 pm:

    Don’t insult pests!

“Can I offer you anything else BUT Ms. Purvis…”

  19. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:48 pm:

What did he say? I’d really like to know.

Caption: “Did Madigan tell you to ask me that question?”

  20. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:50 pm:

“How does a skybox at Fenway for you and 10 guests sound.. and we both forget this Purvis business…”

  21. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:51 pm:

“You’d be surprised at how many people you may bring up and ‘poof’ I know nothin’ about ‘em”

  22. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:52 pm:

“Look, she’s a superstar, her magic power is invisibility…”

  23. - OneMan - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:53 pm:

    I smell nachos…

  24. - Bluefish - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:54 pm:

Now I remember why I’ve been avoiding you guys.

  25. - Wordslinger - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:58 pm:

    – Nobody is going to wonder about our change.–

After speaking in tongues, the governor commenced to handle snakes.

  26. - Century Club - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:58 pm:

Anonymous, he talked for about 3 full minutes without saying anything more direct than “our change is real change”, then ended the press conference.

As irritating as it was, answering that question in any real way would have overshadowed the rest of the presser, which was pretty thin on content. I’m sure Trover would have tackled him if he had started to answer it.

  27. - Anon221 - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 3:59 pm:

    With a nod to OW-

    “Who?”

  28. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:01 pm:

“You won’t find Purvis. Do you know what Purvis did for the first 17 of her 26 years in the Education? Unknown Home Home Schooling. Purvis is gone. There is no Purvis.”

  29. - MrJM - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:01 pm:

“We’ll know by Sunday night if Democrats are serious about reforms, compromise. But my Secretary of Education will not be in Illinois by Sunday night.”

    – MrJM

  30. - birds - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:04 pm:

Look at me! My lips can move and I can say nothing at the same time!

  31. - Tournaround Agenda - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:05 pm:

Anybody wondering about our change is corrupt, and likely to have a &*#@% problem in the near future.

  32. - Linus - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:06 pm:

“Pay no attention to that Secretary of Education behind the DHS budget!” (in the manner of the Wizard of Oz)

  33. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:07 pm:

“Aw, do we really want to talk about Purvis? It’s so boring on a nice day like this..”

  34. - vole - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:07 pm:

That depends on what the definition of “is” is. Otherwise, Rauner keeps showing these faces that are just making it too easy for the cartoonists.

  35. - 47th Ward - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:10 pm:

Change, and nothing stays the same/
Unchained, yeah ya hit the ground running

  36. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:10 pm:

    (Tips cap to - Anon221 -)

    “Caption?”

“Aup! That’s not an approved Lance Question, is it?”

  37. - Austin Blvd - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:11 pm:

“Ha, Ha, Ha…May I hug you?”

  38. - Jorge - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:12 pm:

Did you need a hug too?

  39. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:13 pm:

“If I tell you Purvis is ok, that should be enough. You should know better by now”

  40. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:14 pm:

“You’d be amazed how important Ms. Purvis is. You aren’t the only one looking for her. I’m glad she’s my team…”

  41. - Wensicia - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:15 pm:

What about Beth? Of course I didn’t cut her pay; she’s not autistic!

  42. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:15 pm:

“You can meet Ms. Purvis either never or never ever. You choose.”

  43. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:16 pm:

I’m sorry, but Purvis’ pay isn’t under that walnut. Would you like to try again, I’ll shuffle them across the table real slow like. Double or nothing?

  44. - siriusly - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:16 pm:

No more budget games. That’s what got us into this mess. Yes, I am paying for my education secretary with Autism Project funding.

    Next question?

  45. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:17 pm:

“I clouted Ms. Purvis, of course. Clouting and Education is my bedrock experience.”

  46. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:18 pm:

“I challenge you to find her. How about that? I won’t provide her, you find her. You’re wasting time…”

  47. - Johnnie F. - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:18 pm:

    Oh look….a kitty.

  48. - 47th Ward - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:19 pm:

This isn’t the Education Secretary you’re looking for.

  49. - Johnnie F. - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:22 pm:

No one’s wondrin’ about change…they’re wondrin’ about dollars, big dollars.

  50. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:22 pm:

    “Don’t I… know… your boss?”

  51. - JS Mill - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:25 pm:

Naw man, you’ve got it all wrong ya see. Purvis? She’s totally cool, know what I mean?

  54. - Century Club - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:29 pm:

    OW - hilarious.

  55. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:31 pm:

“Don’t make me block you on Twitter, ask me an EASY question, like about my dogs or something…”

  56. - Trickster - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:32 pm:

i hope to keep your attention…. So you do not check the ELIS system to find…. There are no educational licensures listed under the name Beth Purvis….. The new EDUCATION Secretary????

  57. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:33 pm:

“You need to be more like StatehouseChick and ask me things and write about things I like. This wouldn’t be a StatehouseChick question…would it?”

  58. - Century Club - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:33 pm:

“Purvis? That reminds me, I’m adding something new to my turnaround agenda - Illinois can now file for moral bankruptcy.”

  59. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:35 pm:

“So I can’t say ‘phony, corrupt, Madigan’ or ‘Democrat’. Ok. Gone me a minute, it’s harder than it seems.

  60. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:37 pm:

“Kind lady, can I give you my ‘testimonial’…”

  61. - A guy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:42 pm:

If you make $250K, you can afford to spend some time in California.

  62. - A. Nonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:44 pm:

“Natasha, do you remember what happened to that other reporter that was askin’ too many questions?”

  63. - vole - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:44 pm:

You ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. Just all this shaken’ up goin’ on.

  64. - jls - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:46 pm:

Read my lips. No new taxes till I got what I want.

  65. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:48 pm:

“Did you get a quote from Evelyn? What did we tell you about that? Remember? She doesn’t even speak for herself. You see Lance next time, k? K.”

  66. - Wordslinger - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:51 pm:

    – If you make $250K, you can afford to spend time in California–

That’s right — it’s not Department of Humans Sevices, just Human Services.

And that human is Beth Purvis.

  67. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 4:54 pm:

“Aup! You’re not on Rahm’s approved reporters list, are you, huh?”

  68. - Give Me A Break - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:00 pm:

I can’t hear you, I’m in the bubble.

  72. - Arthur Andersen - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:14 pm:

“What? Am I nervous? Nope, I’m fine, thanks for asking. Next!”

  73. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:14 pm:

“Owls eat Mushrooms. I’m having shirts made. That’s what I think about you asking about Co-Equal”

  74. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:15 pm:

I got to go write more checks to keep the three votes down

  75. - Quizzical - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:16 pm:

I meant it when I said ’shake things up’. Purvis is paid by DHS, is in charge of education in Illinois, and is now in California. Things are arranged randomly. One time my jet got shaken up by turbulence. There were lobsters in stock certificates, jewels in cognac, crystal dishes in silk shirts. Things were mixed up. Do you see what I mean?

  76. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:16 pm:

“You pick a color. ‘Red, Green, or Yellow’. I got the Owls so trained, I use hand signals from the balcony.”

  77. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:17 pm:

“I’m not mocking the idea of Illinois government, I just want it bought lock, stock and barrel…”

  78. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:18 pm:

“Usually I sell off a company before the budgets mattered, so a phony budget made it easier to sell off. That part I do know.”

  79. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:22 pm:

“I think when it’s all said and done, Raunerites will just run the state like a business and if you don’t like that either, you’ll have a “$@&#%” problem too, and you can tweet that…”

  80. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:27 pm:

“I was just told to appoint people. Wether they show up, or not show up, how they get paid, what programs get what, you’re lookin’ at the wrong guy…”

  81. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:28 pm:

“Between us, I never thought the governin’ thru this far, so I’m pretty pleased how I’m doin’, k?”

  82. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:33 pm:

“I’ll save us both some time; put your boss on the cell phone, and I’ll see if I can bully him and save a step.”

  83. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:36 pm:

“Free Press?! Ha! I got receipts that say otherwise…”

  84. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:36 pm:

“You don’t cover me. I cover the state with Ads. K?”

  85. - Oswego Willy - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:43 pm:

“I’ve been authorized to go as high as $1.3 billion in taking over the state by Griffin and Uihline. I’m here for a while…”

  86. - Big Mouth - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 5:50 pm:

Do your best impression of Rich Miller.

  88. - Anonymous - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 6:08 pm:

“Purvis? Everybody forgot about that already, right?”

  89. - Lt. Guv. - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 6:12 pm:

This man is entirely tone deaf. I think well intentioned, but myopic and tone deaf. The sad thing is, Pat Quinn was so bad this guy could defeat him.

  90. - Outside the Bubble - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 6:23 pm:

Yes, this is actually the third woman I’ve hired.

  91. - Lt. Guv. - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 6:27 pm:

    “I’ve got a whole binder of women. . . “

  92. - zatoichi - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 8:21 pm:

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you…..

  93. - Michelle Flaherty - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 9:36 pm:

Rauner: Dave McKinney used to ask me questions like that. How’s he doing? Go ask your boss that question.

    Next question

  94. - downstate commissioner - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 9:36 pm:

He’s got his eyes closed and his mouth open-does that mean anything?

  95. - downstate commissioner - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 9:43 pm:

This isn’t areal nice thing to say, but in this picture, he looks like a politician that would have appeared on the Andy Griffin Show…or Hee-Haw…

  96. - Austin Blvd - Friday, May 29, 15 @ 10:29 pm:

Curious about where the State of Illinois flag is…
