We have a new state Senator

Tuesday, Sep 29, 2015

* I told subscribers about this last week

Democrat Laura Murphy of Des Plaines will be the newest member of the Illinois Senate after being picked by party leaders Monday to finish the term of the departing Dan Kotowski of Park Ridge.

Murphy, a former Des Plaines alderman, was backed by Kotowski going into Monday’s vote and emerged the victor.

Schaumburg Township Democratic Committeeman Mike Cudzik said no other candidates made presentations before party leaders, and Murphy — the Maine Township committeeman — abstained from voting for herself. […]

Kotowski announced earlier this month he’d be stepping down to become the CEO of the Chicago nonprofit ChildServ, capping a nearly nine-year career in Springfield.

Murphy will stand for election next year.

Who had Noland as the last remaining D-Senator from the class of 2007 in the pool?

I know Ms Murphy. She is well regarded and I think she will be a good senator

LizPhairTax - What about Sen Holmes?

  5. - Big Joe - Tuesday, Sep 29, 15 @ 9:31 am:

I liked Kotowski. He valued education and was always looking at the effectiveness of funded programs. He will be missed in my district. He walked the neighborhoods and listened to the people that he represented.

    muon,

Good catch. I stand corrected. Who had that exacta?

Laura Murphy is a nice person!

  8. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 29, 15 @ 10:12 am:

Totally beatable by the Republicans. She’s an old school, “machine” politician who still pushes for patronage jobs to recruit precinct workers. She’s not a North Shore Democrat like Nekritz, Biss, Fine, etc.

Very strong personality, but open to dealing.

That vaunted Maine Twp Dem Organization? If she is old school, she’s not very good at it.

  11. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 29, 15 @ 11:23 am:

    Joe @ 10:44

And that’s why she’s so beatable.

Anonymous: Maine Township has a Democratic Committeeman who can give out patronage jobs in a Township completely controlled by the Republicans? Get real! Have another drink before lunch!

  13. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 29, 15 @ 1:41 pm:

    Qualified @ 11:48

Who said anything about township jobs? It’s county jobs, you know, run by Ds.

  14. - Rick - Tuesday, Sep 29, 15 @ 2:15 pm:

Anon @ 1:41: you’re living in a different era. The patronage gigs aren’t what they used to be in Cook with the army of Shakman compliance monitors sniffing around. Sure, there are still a few. But they ain’t going to Maine Township. The prez has her own people to feed…and there’s a guy on South Pulaski.
