I can’t listen to this speech because I don’t want to taste my lunch a second time. Just something about his voice turns my stomach.

  8. - siriusly - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 12:12 pm:

He has said livin’ and living in the same speech. The Deerfield public schools should be ashamed, they have failed this former student.

  15. - Nick Name - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 12:22 pm:

How can you “get out from under” a consent decree? Aren’t those imposed by the courts?

This is one of the worst speeches I’ve ever heard.

  21. - crazybleedingheart - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 12:31 pm:

When comprehensive procurement reform is the least objectionable part of your speech (albeit meaningless), it’s hard to build up a good head of steam.

  34. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 12:58 pm:

Radogno’s statements following the SOTS on social services shows her true colors- many (small social service providers) were failing anyway and were absorbed into better, stronger agencies.

  35. - Chicago Guy - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:03 pm:

I’m typically a fact/data driven person. Where is the evidence that busting the unions will help Illinois’s economy for the average person? What about evidence that other components of the turnaround agenda will help the average person? I just see a partisan/ideological agenda.

  36. - GA Watcher - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:03 pm:

Can’t believe Leader Radogno’s tough talk “Scrooge-like” comments on smaller social service agencies and how the budget impasse has been a good thing because it’s caused them to merge with larger agencies. Maybe we should reduce the surplus population and get to the real heart of the problem. Sheesh.

  37. - Dee Lay - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:04 pm:

–Jak Tichenor to Leader Radogno: Is the cost of the Turnaround Agenda (closing of social services, etc) worth it? Radogno: Yes, in long run.–

A follow up please: So when the first person dies because of cut social services, will to you responsibility for their death? Will you say their death was worth fighting for the reforms?

  38. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:07 pm:

I think Radogno has REALLY provided a great campaign commercial sound “PIE” not just a bite to the Dems.

  39. - AC - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:08 pm:

    ==“Do the Doable”, Governor.==

He is. Decimating social services and driving the state closer to financial collapse have been quite doable. Reasonable people view everything that happened over the past year as not having accomplished anything, but try to view it as if all the destruction is desirable. Once you do, everything makes sense.

  40. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:08 pm:

–“We must cast partisanship and ideology aside.”–

Said the most destructive, partisan, ideological governor that we’ve seen in our lifetimes.

Is that a gag line, an inside joke, a wink to the Frat Boys to yuk it up?

It’s simply not possible for a sane man with Rauner’s record to be so completely lacking in self-awareness that he could deliver that line straight and believe it.

It’s a bit, a real belly-laugh for the sycophants on the payroll. How cynical. How small.

Yet how revealing. Rauner acknowledges that “casting aside partisanship and ideology” is the aspiration, what a good governor should be doing.

But when he looks in the mirror every day, he must know that he is the opposite of what he should be.

  41. - Honeybear - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 1:10 pm:

Where was the talk of Minority Enterprise stuff? I thought he’d say something on that.

    ****
He sure is! Just using a different definition of fixing than most people would.

Rauner still thinks he is the CEO of IL. He simply does not understand governing.
“For the people, by the people.”

  47. - Whatever - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:05 pm:

He says AFSCME is asking for $3 billion more in compensation? They represent about 40,000 state employees, so that comes out about to $75,000 each. No wonder he says they’ve reached an impasse! /s

  48. - 360 Degree Turnaround - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:08 pm:

Why does anyone care what Dunkin has to say. He seems to have lots of nobody standing behind him.

  49. - What the what - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:20 pm:

How much did Rauner or his political committees pay Dunkin to do this press conference? Dunkin isn’t clever enough to come up with this idea himself. Im sure the real reason he wants to “camp out” is to avoid knocking on doors in his district.

  50. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:22 pm:

What the what- looks like he got a backpack, a sleeping bag, a bottle of water, soap, and access to Madigan’s private shower.

  51. - 360 Degree Turnaround - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:27 pm:

How would Dunkin know what is in the Capitol? He’s missed so many votes Rod Blagojevich tried to auction off his chair!

  52. - Triple fat - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:36 pm:

    Anon221,
I don’t think it’s a definition issue. It’ s his pronouciation of a similar sounding word that starts with F and ends in G.

  53. - Austinman - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:40 pm:

360 degrees how many votes has Dunkin missed???? I’ve been working here in the cap for 15 years and I think your statement is waaaaaay off.

    Just the important ones

  55. - 360 Degree Turnaround - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 3:51 pm:

Of course, Ken Dunkin’s voting record looks good when compared to the rest of his house republican colleagues.

  56. - Kasich Walker, Jr. - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 4:14 pm:

    So Rauner opposes raisin taxes.

    Who wanted to tax raisins?

  57. - ORT - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 4:17 pm:

It’s disheatening that Dunkin, a social worker by training, can align himself with someone whose political strategy is to leverage those in need of social services.

  58. - ORT - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 4:22 pm:

    disheartening. Sorry.

  59. - Anon - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 4:25 pm:

    - Whatever - don’t worry, it’s just a number. Facts don’t matter in Raunerland.

  60. - Rod - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 4:28 pm:

When I read this passage of the speech I was floored: “Work closely with President Cullerton to significantly increase state support for education, focusing our additional resources more on low income and rural school districts so we can provide high quality classrooms in every community, without taking money away from any other districts.” Just a few days ago President Cullerton at the City Club stated his plan (SB1 or a new version of it) involved transferring $400 million from higher wealth districts to lower wealth districts. Does the Governor plan on raising taxes to hold the high wealth districts harmless?

  61. - orzo - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 5:17 pm:

Mutual respect? Does he mean that the Legislature and Supreme Court aren’t “corrupt” any more?

  62. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 5:27 pm:

Criticism: Why was there no mention of the conclusions of the Lt. Governor’s task force report on consolidation? Those recommendations supposedly equated to big savings, didn’t they? I would have thought that report would have had its own bullet point.

  63. - Mama - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 5:59 pm:

“He says AFSCME is asking for $3 billion more in compensation? They represent about 40,000 state employees, so that comes out about to $75,000 each.”

This is simply hogwash (NOT true)!

  64. - ToughGuy - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 6:34 pm:

    - Kasich Walker, Jr. “So Rauner opposes raisin taxes. Who wanted to tax raisins?”

Shouldn’t have read this when I was eating dinner. Nearly choked to death laughing.

  65. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 6:56 pm:

    Triple fat- hat tip:)

  66. - lost in the weeds - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 8:59 pm:

2014 state payroll 4.7 billion dollars per year for 82000 employees. Cannot figure out 3 billion more asked for by union with 32000 people represented. Must be over many years.

  67. - RNUG - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 9:18 pm:

Only way he can come up with that $3B number is if he is including the increased healthcare costs he wants that the union is opposing.

  68. - lost in the weeds - Wednesday, Jan 27, 16 @ 10:15 pm:

=Only way he can come up with that $3B number is if he is including the increased healthcare costs he wants that the union is opposing.=

82000 people * $20000/person if no healthcare provided = 1.64 billion dollars per year, if healthcare costs were all paid by employees. These are rough numbers.

I can’t figure out the 1 billion dollars per year pensions savings either from what is described for pension reform, unless it is after many years. No bill yet to figure it however.

  69. - Whatever - Thursday, Jan 28, 16 @ 7:57 am:

Things like this $3 billion claim and the paltry amount of benefits they project for the turnaround agenda items baffle me — are the governor and the whiz kids that bad with numbers or do they just think we are? Or is the Governor just channeling his inner Carl Sagan — “billions and billions”!
