It’s a good start on both sides of town. I plan to focus on the Blackhawks until after the Stanley Cup finals in June. By then, the baseball standings will actually matter and will tell us something about the Cubs and White Sox.
After the 7th inning stretch, the place was as backed as when Ryno, Fergie, and Billy threw out the First Pitch.
It was loud, it was a knowledgeable (I know, right?) crowd and the team was feeding off the energy.
Yeah, I’m staying calm, lost of games left, but the pulse and vibe around the North Side Ball Club is palpable.
Even the hitting has been better than I had hoped, while starting pitching seems a bit uneven or nervous.
I enjoyed opening day, hope to catch more games live too this year. The Cubs are worth the price of admission, and tgat’s not overstated hyperbole now.
I was in Chicago this weekend and heard one die hard Cubs fan exclaim, “the Cardinals are is last place!” Not, “the Cubs are in first,” or, “the Cubs are 5-and-1,” or “we’re off to a great start.” No, it was, “the Cardinals are in last place.” I think he’s doing it wrong. But that’s what happens after decades of constant disappointment.
First they do well in Oakland, a place that always haunts us. Then, we catch the Twins to help them start out winless in 8 games. It’s a good start and it gets some lousy road venue games out of the way. Keep going.
The Cubs and their fans will be led to the promised land this year by Moses Maddon and the lead float in the World Series Victory parade will be a barbecue pit with a goat on the spit. And if it so happens that the Cards are in last place at the end of the season then the Lord can come and take me because my bucket list is complete..
HA! I have absolutely no intention of calming down at this point in time. Maybe once we’re 80 games or so into the season I will be a little calmer, but right now, my life revolves around what time the Cubs game starts!
Last weekend against the Sox, one of the Indians hit a high fly ball to left. Hawk called out his signature phrase, “can o’ corn” as the ball landed eight rows deep into the left field seats.
Only fans of teams who have actually been there before should be expected to “act like they’ve been there before.” 97 wins and LCS last season. 7-1 to start this year, and none of it by luck. We Cubs fans are excited. You’ll just have to excuse us. I’ll let White Sox fans speak for their side…
Sox fan here. what’s not to like about the Sox so far? bats are hotter than usual, pitching is doing just fine including the pen, we actually have the closer we thought we were getting last year, new announcer for home games. We are just fine!
1985. Pretty good year for the Cards. No WS win that year (arguably should have been but whatever), another pennant on that long list. After a tough series against a good Pirates club, STL is looking pretty good. 162 games. Let’s not get too carried away over one week. This Cards fan is liking the looks of the team so far.
It’s good that Cub fans are excited about this years team. However, Sept 30 is a season away so Cub fans should begin hoping that Rizzo doesn’t blow a knee, bullpen lives up to expectations, one or two starters don’t require Tommy John surgery, an outfielder breaks an ankle and on and on. I bet Madden is.
It is very, very early in the season and I love this game, but trust me the Cards will be in the mix come September and hopefully October. Would love to see a Chicago/St.Louis playoff or Series.
May the better teams prevail! OK, enough for this distraction - lets get back to politics - just kidding!

The Cubs’ first two series were in CA and AZ respectively. They went 4-1.

It’s probably more related to the constant needling Cubs fans have received from Cardinals fans in the last century or so.

Sox have been fun to watch, which is a huge improvement over the last two years.
But yeah, it’s April.

Health will be the biggest worry for both clubs.
Chemistry with the rosters and losing a player in the clubhouse or in the lineup might mess both clubs up mentally more than abything…

I don’t think so, might have been the sun in my eyes as I was typing outside, enjoying day, going between laptop and phone.
I like this Cubs Club, I have to think more wins than loses this year.
Hopefully.
