Munger has “exciting news,” Mendoza posts very long ad

Tuesday, Jun 28, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Hmm. Wanna guess who her generous benefactors are? Heh…

I have exciting news. Generous supporters have pledged to double any contributions I receive online between now and Thursday. That means your support will go twice as far!

Contribute now towards my efforts, and whatever amount you are able to give will be doubled.

We are now just over four months from Election Day, and the fundraising quarter ends this Thursday.

Now is the time to step up with me.

I am fighting to instill common sense in Springfield and respect for your hard-earned tax dollars. I am ready to continue to provide that leadership, but I need your help to ensure I win in November.

Please invest in my efforts by Thursday’s deadline. With the matching support, your contribution will have twice the impact!

Leslie Geissler Munger
Illinois State Comptroller

* Meanwhile, Munger’s opponent posted a five-minute Interwebtubes video the other day. Looks like they spent some money on it, too. Very slick stuff. Maybe they’ll cut it up into smaller TV-style ads. But I just can’t see many people actually watching the whole thing as-is. It’s so long and it doesn’t have subtitles. Lots of people watch videos at work with the sound turned off, which is why I’ve always asked campaigns to provide scripts for their ads. Subtitles are extremely important these days.

Anyway, here you go

One of the reasons that candidates post videos like this to the internet is so that IE committees can reuse the video for their ads.

I’m sure Mrs. R and the kids love watching dad throw a small part of their inheritance out the window

  3. - Mama - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 1:57 pm:

I agree they need subtitles and they need to shorten Mendoza’s video.

Short and sweet and to the point works best.

    ===Generous supporters===

Is that what she calls him?

===But I just can’t see many people actually watching the whole thing as-is===

Agreed- that was the first thing I thought when I watched (part of it) yesterday. Too long to let anything sink in.

Another note on the lack of subtitles/closed caption. When those are forgotten in ads. The individual misses out on communication with the deaf community. Youtube provides closed captions or subtitles but as anyone who uses that option on Youtube will learn very quickly…they often are not correct. It pays to have someone take the time to put those in your video for many reasons

Mendoza always seems too have a little bit too much to say about herself.

  8. - here we go - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 2:27 pm:

Mendoza’s video was actually pretty sweet.

I really like Munger as an individual, I don’t like her “wing man” approach to her office. If she was more independent of Rauner, I would have voted for her (this is coming from a lefty liberal).

  9. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 2:29 pm:

Too bad the “generous benefactors” aren’t willing to do the same for service providers’ work done. I guess contract work isn’t on par with politicking.

  10. - Albany Park Patriot - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 2:32 pm:

Munger wants to have it both ways. But we know she hears her master’s voice.

  11. - illini - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 2:51 pm:

I’ll be looking at the D-2’s to see how successful this push is. Deadline is the 15th. Guessing that will show who her benefactors are!

No worries, they’re inheriting a state. Extremely damaged by the family patriarch, but it’s still a state.

  13. - Amalia - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 3:39 pm:

this video is sweet and encouraging, just like Susana. it does not feel that long, which is interesting. I think it’s the music and the many interesting people….most of whom the average person does not know….and the great tidbits about her life. very much like who the person she is.

  14. - Shytown - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 3:47 pm:

Leslie Munger for Comptroller, brought to you by generous contributions made by Gov. Bruce Rauner

  15. - Indochine - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 4:15 pm:

Oh, yes. If only Munger was more independent like Susana Mendoza and all the Democrat ducklings who take money from Madigan’s many campaign funds, DPI and its postal permit, trial lawyers and labor PACs. Mendoza has a long, storied career as an independent thinker and policy wonk during her long service to the many facets of Illinois government she has served.

Oh, Susana, don’t you cry for me!

  16. - Rich Miller - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 4:23 pm:

=== If only Munger was more independent like Susana Mendoza===

Did Munger ever endorse a Democratic congressional candidate?

  17. - Shytown - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 4:35 pm:

Mendoza has a good record of working with both sides of the aisle when she was in Springfield. I think we would all welcome more of that.

Munger, while a newbie, may not have as long a record that the Dems can trash, but the self-proclaimed “wingman” of the Governor has done a very good job in a short amount of time of showing where her loyalties lie in this budget impasse and that’s with Rauner (and not with those who’ve been decimated by his “my way or the highway” style of leadership).

  18. - Gabrielle - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 4:49 pm:

I thought Susana’s video was awesome!

  19. - illini - Tuesday, Jun 28, 16 @ 6:53 pm:

Actually, whoever is doubling the contributions for the next few days is being rather parsimonious. I just got an email offering to quadruple my donation to a political campaign - worth thinking about!!!!
