Tuesday, Sep 20, 2016 - Posted by Rich Miller

* As we’ve already discussed, Gov. Bruce Rauner is doing a live Facebook question and answer thingy today at noon. Click here to watch and participate. You can also click here to see some questions already posted on Twitter. Some aren’t exactly polite, so beware.

If you do participate, let us know how it goes in comments. Thanks.

I say ignore him. Don’t give him the satisfaction of an unruly, “unwashed” mob acting out.

    It’s what he wants.

    self-discipline sisters and brothers

  2. - Huh? - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:45 am:

I liked the train wreck and dumpster fire gifs predicting how this would go over with viewers.

Please, please, please, someone say they are torn on who to vote for, Clinton or Trump, and they need his advise.

    From the Twitterverse:

Will be making an announcement about the Illinois Bicentennial during my Facebook Live at noon today. (Rauner)

That’ll be interesting… gonna finance that one privately ,too???

  5. - Henry Francis - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:54 am:

Great question Rep. Butler! Considering the crisis out state is currently in, let’s talk about party planning for 2018. Unfortunately the Guv is focused on growing jobs, so I’m sure he won’t have an answer for you.

  6. - Curious - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:56 am:

    That shirt tho…

Did he ditch the tux and bowtie and then gladhand the crowd? I mean…yikes, Bruce. Those buttons!

Also, who pays for the promotion of this…I mean who even cares at this point…

  7. - Curious - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:57 am:

Wait, is he wearing jeans with that shirt? This is going to bug me ALL DAY!! What is he even doing?

  8. - Deft Wing - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:57 am:

Awesome question Rep. Butler! Almost every Illinoisan wants to know the answer to that question … for sure. /sx1000

  9. - @MisterJayEm - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 11:58 am:

I look at that photo of Rauner in his saggy-baggy cowboy costume and wanna ask, “How much weight you lost, dude?”

  10. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:01 pm:

Alright, Tim, no more hardball with the Gov….

  11. - Curious - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:03 pm:

Folks, studying this photo, think his shirt has two chest pockets. Repeat, two chest pockets! But the buttons on the wrist are fancy. Is this from the Yves Saint Laurent cowboy chic collection?

  12. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:05 pm:

“Where are you? What are you wearing?”

    From: Not Ron Sandack

Watching this live “production” is bloody painful.

  14. - Thoughts Matter - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:07 pm:

What good is it if the Govermor gets to choose the questions?

I love the Mexican theme on his recent fotos, especially the great seal of Mexico in the background here. Take that, Donaldo Trump.

  17. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:10 pm:

It’s gonna be one long Rauner Infomercial…

“Mr. Rauner, Your TA Agenda seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?”

    Fake Tim Butler

  19. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:16 pm:

So… looks like he’s going to cherry pick questions and hit all points of the TurnAround.

  20. - HillWilly - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:16 pm:

Amazing how many angry faces show up when he talks about prison reform and prioritizing mental health reform. Seems like the trolls are to busy giggling and clicking emojis to listen to what he’s saying.

  21. - Anon221 - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:17 pm:

It’s easier to hit Mute and just read the questions/comments being submitted.

  22. - Ron Burgundy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:18 pm:

Since this is Facebook based, it will not be complete without at least a couple cheap knockoff t-shirt ads and someone declaring their information is private based on the UCC and the Nuremburg Trials.

  23. - Aldyth - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:18 pm:

Gee, the Turnaround Agenda (not mentioned by name) is the solution to getting stuff done on the local level!

  24. - Anon - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:19 pm:

Seriously, this guy is a broken record.

  25. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:21 pm:

    Hmm…

Collective bargaining and prevailing wage equate to property taxes and weakening unions will lower property taxes.

    That’s the case?

    Where are the real numbers.

  26. - Henry Francis - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:21 pm:

If you guys like his cowboy look, find the picture where he is wearing the big white cowboy hat. Literally, he’s wearing the white hat.

  27. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:22 pm:

I’m applying to the Bicentennial Commission.

I’ll report back on the status of my appointment as updates occur…

@AmandaVinicky - #RaunerLive Q: why push term limits when won’t take effect now (aka in time to affect foe Madigan); says will change culture, pols will quit

    Rauner, the oracle.

How does he know how the Pols will react? LOL

  29. - Anon - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:27 pm:

that was a HUUUUGE waste of time.

  30. - Henry Francis - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:29 pm:

OW - the Guv knows when pols will quit because he has a guy in the Phillipines . . .

Halfway surprised an email didn’t go out to all state workers asking them to watch… /s

  35. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:37 pm:

You are part of the “some class” when Rauner greets with a costume, or worse I feel completely disrespects you and wants it known he disrespects you when Rauner wears no tie.

The costume today is called “The Woody’s Roundup” costume.

What I can’t wait for, and I hope others are as excited as I am, is the “Buzz Lightyear” costume for the Consumer Electronics “annex”.

Rauner will change into a suit and tie later at the CE Show, away from the eyes of the unwashed.

  36. - Bobby Catalpa - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 12:43 pm:

    Good god. What an embarrassment.

If this is the messaging he’s talking about, go for it.

These are poll-numbering-lowering “messages” once they reach anyone with something other than a KFC bucket for a brain.

  37. - illinoised - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:04 pm:

    Bruce Rauner Facebook Live
    Pilot episode, 9-20-16

    Cast:
    Governor — Bruce Rauner
Potted plant — Rep. Tim Butler

  39. - Michelle Flaherty - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:21 pm:

the most confusing part about the Facebook Live event is trying to figure out if that counts as lunch or work on my timecard.

  40. - Bobby Catalpa - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:45 pm:

Rauner is under this weird assumption that the people *watching* are plotted plants. I assume most politicians think this, BTW — that they’re smarter than the people they serve.

But Rauner has it worse than most. His bizarre costumes — showing up in camouflage one day, suburban biker jacket the next, and then the next standing in a pair of crumpled khakis, smiling at everyone like we’re all a bunch of idiots that can’t wait to vote for him.

Forget the hairbrush and the state troopers — who’s the circus costume coordinator? That must be one of the “heroes” in the administration.

Campaign season: “Roll out the Carhartt.”

Downstate: “Bring out the biker jacket.”

Military today? “Where’s I’d put that duck gear?”

  41. - Honeybear - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 1:57 pm:

-The costume today is called “The Woody’s Roundup” costume.-

Restaurant quality. I hope to God I never find myself in front of the Governor when he’s wearing that costume. I will not be able to keep a straight face!

  42. - Aldyth - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 2:26 pm:

My expectations for this were quite low. Bottom of the barrel low. Governor Rauner met my expectations.

  43. - steves schnorf - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 3:30 pm:

I guess I just don’t understand this obsession with what he wears.

  44. - A guy - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 3:40 pm:

    Me either Schnorf.

  45. - IllinoisBoi - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:18 pm:

Believe it or not, when public officials appear in public, people notice what they wear. Especially billionaire politicians who put on phony blue-collar costumes.

  46. - Steve Schnorf - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:24 pm:

So those aren’t clothes Rauner usually wears, he just puts them on to mislead people? I don’t think so.

  47. - Who Else - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:28 pm:

How do term limits and smaller pensions help the middle class? Governor, show your work.

This guy will only consider tax hikes if he gets “reforms,” which, trust him, will be so great for the middle class. Governor, show your work.

Taxes and reforms are mentioned in the same sentence, and depend on each other, but there has never been any clear indication of how the turnaround agenda actually ensures any level of trust from taxpayers in how their government is spending money, or actually improves government function, which is allegedly the reason the Governor links the two. They have NOTHING to do with each other. Or, if they do, Governor, show your work.

  48. - CrazyHorse - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 4:55 pm:

I am awaiting/dreading the day the ILSC finally rules on this “Consideration” model. I think it will fail to pass constitutional muster but you just cringe knowing the portrait of your future will be put into the hands of the judges once again. I just want to get past this nonsense one way or another.

Unfortunately, even if that gets shot down, I’m sure they’ll continue searching for another loophole. Anything except actually addressing the problem and funding the pensions seems to be the plan. Next up will be a bankruptcy push or something that requires the federal government to allow them to stiff us. It won’t end. These guys have no interest in paying what was promised. That much is clear.

  49. - Anon - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 5:49 pm:

BVR - “I bought this really funny Trump costume for Halloween. But am I gonna’ wear it or not?”

–@AmandaVinicky - #RaunerLive Q: why push term limits when won’t take effect now (aka in time to affect foe Madigan); says will change culture, pols will quit–

Sen. Radogno (since 1996), Rep. Durkin (most years since 1995), you heard the boss; step off — you’re messing up “the culture.”

As the one-and-only financier of the Illinois GOP, Gov. Rauner could put his money where his mouth is and muscle out any GOP legislator who has served, say, more than four terms.

Would that make “the culture” better?

Beats talking about tripling the backlog of unpaid bills, an $8 billion FY17 deficit, running higher ed into the ground and putting social service contractors out of business.

  51. - Property of IDOC - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 9:07 pm:

While traveling the state “governing “, I’m quite sure the daily theme song is…”it’s fun to stay at the YMCA…” And the costume must fit the perceived audience.

  53. - XDNR - Tuesday, Sep 20, 16 @ 10:27 pm:

With all due respect Mr. Schnorf, OW has his MO attire right, lest you remember his word sling’in, carhart wearing, trash can van driving and Harley riding deceitful election campaign. The man is a master chameleon whose attire speaks to the choir he happens to be addressing.

To the post, Rauner only answers questions to the questions he knows, still campaign’in!

  54. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Sep 21, 16 @ 9:13 am:

=I guess I just don’t understand this obsession with what he wears. =

    Agreed. Completely.

Why did the Rauner campaign make such a big deal of his attire? Cheap watch etc.?

That one always puzzled me as well. He is wealthy and in business. Dress however you want/feel most comfortable. No need for commercials about it.
