This is about the politics. As long as The Ounce and Diana can function, then a budget, Illinois, and social services will suffer… with stuff like this.

It is highly unlikely that Madigan is seriously challenged within his caucus next month, but this and LOTS more of this type of thing will be used in the 2018 elections against many –and I mean many- House Dems. … the ones who regularly tell their constituents at the door-step that they really don’t like Madigan and privately admit to their voters that Madigan has been around far too long and should not have the power he has.
Yep, this is all about a longer play in the continuing war and non-stop campaigning for all of the marbles in 2018.

But for sites like Capitol Fax, this is inside baseball stuff. Most people don’t know and don’t care about this tit for tat stuff. Gov. Rauner and his donors spent millions of dollars this election year and if it had not had been for Donald Trump, it would have been snake eyes for him and the Illinois GOP. At the end of the day, this is playground kids stuff. I wish both sides would cut it out and start governing.
It sounds to me like there is something being negotiated between the two, and the ball is Madigan’s court.
Yingling is in for two long years and there is an opening for an inter-party antagonist with Frank’s departure.
To this independent voter, the anti-Madigan platform works from all sides, especially if the politician truly has, in his serving heart, the best interest of his district and residents of the state.

Anony - you are correct in a sense BUT things like “WHO WILL YOU VOTE FOR SPEAKER?!” is a huge issue. The national GOP used it against DCCC candidates in 2010 and it worked. Nancy Pelosi’s name was dragged through the mud and her rep (however good it was before 2010) was ruined. She was made to look foolish and the tactic worked and is still being used by the NRCC. The state GOP used it a lot this year and for a presidential year it had pretty good overall results. Rep. Yingling should have said nothing. Even answering with “I have to use the restroom” would be better than being snarky and giving the HRO and ILGOP more fodder for an off-year election cycle.
This reminds me of what the national GOP did in 2010 to link vulnerable Dems and Nancy Pelosi…get Members on record saying they support their toxic leader
Why put the heat on Republicans when you can dust off mailers with 20 year out of date design quality saying Republican X supports sex offenders and banning abortion for rape victims?
@hisgirlfriday- spot on. If I were a member of the ILDP, I would be relentlessly pounding the GOP that way. They are incredibly vulnerable on this.
In the same manner as the governor repeats his TA bullet pints regardless of question I would answer any question with bullet points on the GOP endenture to Rainer. Relentless.
