I think the days of Rauner running away from Trump are over. Not that Rauner won’t still work hard to run far, far away from the President, just that the President’s similarities with Rauner are too big to ignore anymore.
Before Sean Spicer was offering alternative facts, Rauner was telling whoppers to the Illinois press corps. If and when the national news media discover their spine, so too should those covering our state government (present company excluded of course).
Rauner can run, but he can’t hide anymore. A billionaire businessman with no experience and only a passing relationship with the truth? Who does that describe?
Actually, Rauner’s name would work better on the Thompson Center. I’m surprised he hasn’t added it already.

He wants to end the decades old practice of borrowing from future taxpayers to pay for today’s spending.
For the past two years Democrats are not for any cuts or any changes to the status quo. Let’s hope they have changed and not just in the Senate.

It’s non-effective. We’re entering a very different kind of cycle in 2018. There is an inherent ‘risk’ that Trump may have accomplished something popular by that time. He may not, but banking on his brand being the “big taboo” is pretty risky to me. Besides, there’s only room for one villain per cycle. It’s not going to be Trump or Rauner.
What is the connection between Rauner and Trump? Clearly there must be a video similar to the Mendoza or Bradley nominating speech where the Governor praises Trump. Rauner must be on record somewhere aligning himself with Trump.Nope.
Tough to make a case that is a stretch to begin with without some video or other evidence. There are many differences between Trump and Rauner. Connecting the two will be a massive failure and waste of resources.
The only thing LP is correct about is there are some big differences between Rauner and Trump. For instance, the President is a union member and can collect a $100,00 union pension from the Screen Actors Guild. While we all know how Rauner feels about Unions. We also know how the President feels about exporting jobs. Rauner on the other hand hired a Canadian firm for the MyBenefits site. I think the Democrats would get more mileage by running down Rauner to Trump supporters than by tying the two together.
It seems to be effective since I just checked their Facebook page and there about 900 new “likes” since this was screen captured. Maybe it’s a result of the famed Cap Fax boost!

Meaningless statement that ignores the entire, well-documented history of the party of the incumbent president getting clocked in off-prez years. When that president has low approval ratings, history shows the beating is much worse.
After reading everything here, I must say I’ve reconsidered. Sometimes I forget that a large amount of the State is not as interested in State politics as they are Federal. There are plenty of people who don’t know Rauner from Adam, but no and loathe Trump. For that reason, I’d inch the needle to “effective,” but not in any profound sort of way.

Effective. Very effective. I saw it this morning and loved it immediately. It’s a “thing” now to take selfies in front of Trump Tower, with extended middle finger(s). It doesn’t matter how Trump performs, in the end, because hundreds of thousands of Illinois women hate him and marched downtown to prove it.

I’m also, from my comment, coming from the premise those anti-Trump aren’t necessarily anti-Rauner, but those hurt by what’s happening in Illinois are the ones needed to be motivated to vote against Rauner, “Bruce Rauner failed”
Connecting Rauner to Trump is the “natural”, it’s getting the Dems, Social Servive patrons, advocates, and clients to the polls to get turnout up to win.
This message we are voting in here is too narrow, by being way too broad-based.

You are not contributing to the debate at all and meanwhile every single day our state’s finances are getting worse. What was it that Moody’s said a week or so ago — lack of a responsible state budget was the real problem?
Rauner is not a victim in all of this. He is a powerful agent. In fact, Illinois has one of the strongest governorships in the nation. So the real question is, why won’t he govern? after 2 years, the only answer has to be that he wants to have the pain he is causing without owning it up front by proposing budgets with cuts.

What does Rauner want to cut? Seriously, you haven’t been paying attention. Rauner wants to lower the cost of government while improving the business climate in Illinois.
Rauner’s first budget contained 6 billion in cuts which was rejected by the legislature, who then proposed a budget 4 billion out of balance with no cuts.
He wants to cut the cost of the state workforce through pension reform, salary freezes,increased healthcare costs and outsourcing.
He wants to cut the cost of local government through reducing mandates from Springfield and allowing local control of spending decisions.
He wants to end the decades old practice of borrowing from future taxpayers to pay for today’s spending.
For the past two years Democrats are not for any cuts or any changes to the status quo. Let’s hope they have changed and not just in the Senate.

In Grown-Up Land, Trump got clobbered by 944,000 votes in Illinois a couple of months ago, receiving less than 40% of the statewide vote.
So, it’s kind of an obvious play to draw on that large anti-Trump sentiment and tie the GOP governor to the GOP president. It would be malpractice not to.

A budget show that. Rauner has no budget, but you already knew that.

Rauner’s own “budget” was out of balance. Willfully ignorant or… no, willfully ignorant. You are reminded, daily, the same things, and you still, daily peddle your willful ignorance.
The rest of your “talking points” would make sense, if Governor Rauner fulfilled Article VIII, Section 2, (a).
All you’re doing is cutting and pasting talking point last oblivious to the weight and measure of budgetary dollars weighing them by the dollars in that proposed budget.
Rauner is NOT Trump “right now” within the framing of the QOTD, and once Trump gets budgetary measures, he’ll be ahead of Rauner in governing.
Let that sink in.

It’s non-effective. We’re entering a very different kind of cycle in 2018. There is an inherent ‘risk’ that Trump may have accomplished something popular by that time. He may not, but banking on his brand being the “big taboo” is pretty risky to me. Besides, there’s only room for one villain per cycle. It’s not going to be Trump or Rauner.

The only thing LP is correct about is there are some big differences between Rauner and Trump. For instance, the President is a union member and can collect a $100,00 union pension from the Screen Actors Guild. While we all know how Rauner feels about Unions. We also know how the President feels about exporting jobs. Rauner on the other hand hired a Canadian firm for the MyBenefits site. I think the Democrats would get more mileage by running down Rauner to Trump supporters than by tying the two together.

You say you that Trump and Rauner “won’t” be the villain, declaratively, yet you only call it “risky” a mere sentence before.
It’s not risky if you think it won’t happen.
Further, midterm elections generally don’t favor the incumbent President’s party, let alone a governor, today, that is upside down on favorables without any negatives ads rolling today.
Rauner supported Trump, made the pitch for Trump at the state convection. The connection in video is there with Rauner saying he supports the nominee, Donald Trump.
Trump us upside down too, and lost Illinois, handily.
I do think this stand alone message is non-effective, but in a collective with “Bruce Rauner failed” - a skyhook in reverse with Rauner also connected to Trump…
Rauner and Trump can be villains.
It’s up to Social Service groups, advocates, patrons, Labor and Democrats to “show up” in 2018.
We’ll see. But, Rauner and Trump could be villains, history kinda sorta says so

Rauner’s soundbite was recorded last spring when at least a half dozen Republicans still competed in the primaries. He has never directly endorsed Trump individually and did not attend the GOP convention that nominated Trump.
Also you posted a 20 minute video of Rauner speaking at Illinois GOP convention where Trump’s name is not mentioned a single time.
Other than that, Rauner and Trump are like peas and carrots.

Meaningless statement that ignores the entire, well-documented history of the party of the incumbent president getting clocked in off-prez years. When that president has low approval ratings, history shows the beating is much worse.

After reading everything here, I must say I’ve reconsidered. Sometimes I forget that a large amount of the State is not as interested in State politics as they are Federal. There are plenty of people who don’t know Rauner from Adam, but no and loathe Trump. For that reason, I’d inch the needle to “effective,” but not in any profound sort of way.

Effective. Very effective. I saw it this morning and loved it immediately. It’s a “thing” now to take selfies in front of Trump Tower, with extended middle finger(s). Not the most mature thing to do, but Trump is DESPISED in populous parts of Illinois. Tying Rauner to Trump is relatively easy. Both are monied and politically wet behind the ears. It doesn’t matter how Trump performs, in the end, because hundreds of thousands of Illinois women hate him and marched downtown to prove it.

Stop playing. You’re on CapFax, you know how this goes. They’re members of the same party. Their fates are linked. That’s the whole point of parties. Hell, that’s the basis of Rauner’s entire re-election strategy. Silence- which he won’t be able to maintain anyway- won’t save him. He’ll either be linked to Trump or he’ll make a public break from him- which would blow it up into a much bigger story, frankly.
