  10. - Nero's Fiddle - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:16 pm:

My guess is that this “Scab Database” will be off to good start with lots of bogus names, birthdates and email addresses.

It’s not difficult for a hacker to find a ‘bot to do this for them, since there is no CAPTCHA check on this website to check for an actual human being.

  11. - Earnest - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:16 pm:

Drop in the bucket. Lots of human services and state vendor workers looking for jobs right now.

  12. - The Machine - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:18 pm:

    Can’t wait to cross.

… Not to mention such notables as Pikov Andropov, Mike Easter, and the twins Sacha & Stella Pena Diaz.

  15. - AC - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:21 pm:

Finally, Rod Blagojevich gets an opportunity to work from “home”.

  16. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:22 pm:

“Sweet! A new place to put down on my bogus job search log for the unemployment office.”–fake beneficiary

  17. - Puddintaine - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:24 pm:

I just signed up. Really hope they call me. /s

  22. - NATTY BOY - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:27 pm:

I wonder if Ima Scab applied?

  23. - AC - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:27 pm:

Morneau Shepell didn’t count the number of applicants using the same methods they used for the MACAP deductions, did they?

  24. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:28 pm:

    –WhoKnew–

My guess is Team Rauner envisions these folks as independent contractors or may funnel them through a temp. agency.

  25. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:29 pm:

Certainly, the Frat Boys know they’re going to get rolled with fake apps from state employees?

    Theiy’re superstars, right?

  26. - Just Bored - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:29 pm:

My name is Goose Rowner and I want a State job.

  27. - Mason born - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:30 pm:

When I looked at the site you had to sign up to view it. I wonder how many of the 1700 signed up to see the site but have no plan of working.

  28. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:34 pm:

What kinda of Grade do I need for Head Umpaa Lumpaa? /s

  29. - Kevin Highland - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:34 pm:

1700 Applications 2 Unique IP Addresses.

  30. - Nick Name - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:35 pm:

    Cough!

The Advertisement for Strike Workers Act:
    http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=2392&ChapterID=68

“Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be guilty of a petty offense and shall be fined not more than $300 for each such violation.”

And while we’re on the subject…

    Cough!

    The Employment of Strikebreakers Act:
    http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs3.asp?ActID=2393&ChapterID=68

“Whoever violates any provision of this Act is guilty of a Class A misdemeanor.”

I hope AFSCME lawyers are paying attention.

  31. - Rich Miller - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:37 pm:

NN, those statutes deal with “professional strikebreakers.” It used to be a thing.

“‘Professional strikebreaker’ means any person who repeatedly and habitually offers himself for employment on a temporary basis where a lockout or strike exists to take the place of an employee whose work has ceased as a direct consequence of such lockout or strike.”

  32. - Honeybear - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:38 pm:

Weust keep in mind this will be an unfair labor practice strike. They can hire temps but not permenant replacements. Let them try to do our jobs. They’ll lose 90 % in two days.

Remember they won’t get paid diddly if at all.

Plus I’m sure if Rauner has stashed funds it might be pretty illegal.

  33. - Nick Name - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:40 pm:

    RM, thanks.

  34. - August Spies - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:44 pm:

Rich, I’m not seeing anything in that first statute stating professional strike breakers. Seems you’re right with the second one, but the first may be applicable in this situation.

  35. - Juice - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:45 pm:

Honeybear, you should take a look at Senate Bill 933 which was assigned to State Government committee, and make sure it doesn’t get out of there.

  36. - Cubs in '16 - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:45 pm:

===When I looked at the site you had to sign up to view it. I wonder how many of the 1700 signed up to see the site but have no plan of working.===

I wouldn’t trust any number the Administration throws out. They’re going to inflate it anyway to continue the intimidation campaign.

  37. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:46 pm:

I’m sure all 1,700 of those applicants are legit, and are capable of doing any state job assigned to them as well or better than AFSCME members. When 20,000 people go on strike, Rauner will be ready.

  38. - Henry Francis - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:48 pm:

Rich - you sure about the first statute NickName cites? That one doesn’t mention professional strikebreaker. Just prohibits advertising for replacements in anticipation of a strike.

  39. - 360 Degree TurnAround - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:51 pm:

Is Rauner still going to call up the boy scouts to help be scabs?

  40. - New Slang - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:52 pm:

Chance the Rapper has his interview tomorrow. After that, we all get to wear ballcaps to work.

  41. - OpenYourEyes - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 3:58 pm:

These 1,700 applicants are nothing more than a mailing list of names. None of these people had to enter qualifications, job history, or background checks. Most are probably felons with past records that prevent them from being employed.

Once again… it is only a scare tactic used by the Governor’s Office in hopes of getting workers to cross the line.

Lastly, for those that think about crossing the line I hope you keep one thing in mind before making that choice. If you don’t stand up now and the Governor wins this battle, things will only get worst. Do you honestly think that the next contract would be better or different once they have seen they are able to break the Union? You will regret it… maybe not day one, but in future contracts that will be increasingly worst. Then you will begin to bad mouth the Union for not doing it’s job, when really the problem was you not holding up your end when it counted most.

  42. - Skeptic - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:05 pm:

The first statute doesn’t say anything about professionals, but it does say “while the strike or lockout is in progress” and “unless it shall be stated in such advertisement that a strike or lockout is in progress at such place of business. “

  43. - Top of the State - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:05 pm:

DHS Human Service Caseworkers. It takes a couple of years to learn policies, and you can’t hire off the street with this type of knowledge and experience. Winnebago DHS lost many of the new hires in this title in recent years, because they didn’t like the work situation or found new jobs out of state.

  44. - Gr8dane - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:06 pm:

Ben, and his brother Neil, Dover at your service!

  45. - Honeybear - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:08 pm:

Again how is he going to pay them.

    What else you got JT?

  46. - RNUG - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:09 pm:

Wonder if Woodie Guthrie and Union Maid signed up?

  47. - August Spies - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:10 pm:

Top of the State is correct. Policy is a pain and there aren’t a whole lot of applicants beating down the doors for those spots.

  48. - Honeybear - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:11 pm:

Go ahead mr scab. Try to process an AABD case in IPACs.

  49. - Nick Name - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:11 pm:

Rich, looks like you’re correct about the second Act I linked to, but not about the Advertisement for Strike Workers Act. It appears to apply across the board, not just to advertising for professional strikebreakers.

  50. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:18 pm:

Beware of the SCAB, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
    Across the floor
    Right through the door
    And all around the wall
    A splotch, a blotch
    Be careful of the SCAB!

  51. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:21 pm:

    I.P. Freely reporting for duty!

  52. - Theo Constable - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:22 pm:

I don’t get it. State employee union members say all the time that working public service is challenging, noble, etc. Why wouldn’t someone want apply if its a better option than what they currently have?
I think a lot the folks doing the snark here are whistling past the graveyard.
If there is a real strike people will apply for those jobs and some of them will be hired.

  53. - Shark Sandwich - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:29 pm:

Guys, The Advertisement for Strike Workers Act doesn’t say you can’t advertise for strike breakers. It says you can’t advertise for strike breakers UNLESS the ad makes clear that the job is to replace a striking worker.
Nothing for AFSCME lawyers to do here.

  54. - RIJ - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:32 pm:

I filled out application and indicated an interest in an area I have no qualifications for whatsoever. And I doubt that many of those 1700 have the job skills to match what the State will need, much less the education or appropriate vocational/technical training and skills, required licenses or certificates. Once you begin to think in terms of what will be actually needed if even only half of AFSCME walks, that’s still about 19,000 positions for which job duties must be covered.

  55. - Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:33 pm:

Jefferson Sessions may be available any day now.

  56. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:39 pm:

    To the Post,

The 1,700 is a mere measuring of having a website dedicated to fishing for names to apply pressure on those in AFSCME to worry about wether to strike or not.

If anything, how many of these “names” can fill the numerous jobs that need credentials or experience by the nature of the work. Not every “job” is entry level, not all the 1.700 will be perfect fits to make any transition smooth.

    My point?

I dunno if I’d be so willing to fill spots that tries to say “we will move forward” and see a decline that might be best if the spot wasn’t filled at all.

This could be bad news, filling spots and failing instead of just letting the halting of work occur.

  57. - No Resume Required - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:41 pm:

Trust me guys I’m super qualified! Give me a call. No budget to pay me but I’ll be there!

  58. - Tommydanger - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:46 pm:

I.P. Nightly reporting for duty sir.

  59. - Honeybear - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:46 pm:

I’m guessing the insurance bomb goes off on mid March paycheck. To do this the TRO and appeal would fall next week. That puts us at beginning of April for go time.

  60. - Gone, but not forgotten - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:48 pm:

Will he pay with gift cards? From what store? If it’s not Nordstrom, I may apply.

  61. - lake county democrat - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:49 pm:

A lot of these jobs could be automated:

    http://www.zdnet.com/article/robots-will-replace-250000-government-jobs-and-thats-just-the-beginning/

In the short term, no, I’m dubious there is anything close to enough educated and/or skilled workers to replace all the strikers if a strike comes to pass. But in the not-that-long term, I have no doubt many of those workers will face the same fate as in the private sector.

  62. - LTSW - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:50 pm:

There are lots of state workers with promotional grades for positions that they have no qualifications for. I’ve been interviewing them for years.

  63. - Gone, but not forgotten - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:52 pm:

    No Starbucks gift cards either.

  64. - Mod Dem - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:53 pm:

I believe the point is not the names on the site, it is Rauner again wins the news cycle about the “flood” of applicants. Congrats all the creative people who put in phony names. You increased the count to make the press release geared to the suburban voters more effective. It would be much better for AFSCME if they said that this new site only had 10 names apply, a clear indication that Illinois supports the union. Instead they say 1,700 names in three days…the fact that 500 turn out to be bogus, no one will remember that beyond those who enter comments on this page.

  65. - Former State Worker - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 4:55 pm:

Most of them used to work at Caterpillar.

  66. - CrazyHorse - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:19 pm:

    Ivana Newgove just applied.

  67. - PENSIONS ARE OFF LIMITS - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:24 pm:

Mother F. Jones is ripe for the pickin’.

  68. - Timmeh - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:24 pm:

Mod Dem: It was easy enough to fill out all of the fields with “Timmeh” (except for county and state). Didn’t even look to see if I entered a valid email.
    https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/statejobs

  69. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:47 pm:

I want me one of them thar state jobs.

  70. - Michelle Flaherty - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:48 pm:

1,700 in 3 days, CK must be tired from all the typing.

  71. - Ginhouse Tommy - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 5:56 pm:

OW The problem with filling the jobs with temps is there will be no training except on the job. The learning curve will be extreme. The mess that these people will create will take months to correct. It would be a disaster no matter what agency/dept they work for. Just saying

  72. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 6:05 pm:

===The problem with filling the jobs with temps is there will be no training except on the job.===

    Well,… I mean,… except for that…

    - Ginhouse Tommy -

Your comment is the crux of the problem that the Superstars think they’ve solved.

    They haven’t.

  73. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 6:09 pm:

    I registered as stew pidasso

  74. - wordslinger - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 6:56 pm:

Seymour Butz is available for Science/Engineering.

  75. - foster brooks - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 6:59 pm:

I’m sure they will follow veterans preference protocall

  76. - DuPage Dave - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 7:19 pm:

This has almost (but not quite) reached Squeezy the Python status.

  77. - Jose - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 7:41 pm:

Joe Telameto applies to be Chief of Staff.

  78. - Huh? - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 8:14 pm:

Registered Mike Easter with this phone number (312) 814-2121.

  79. - blue dog dem - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 9:21 pm:

I applied for IDNR job. Chief in charge of bobcat quotas.

  80. - Cadillac - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 9:23 pm:

Spot on. Only to add, hope those phony names IP addresses don’t match up with certain state owned computers on state time.

  81. - A.Lincoln - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 9:53 pm:

    A. Lincoln -

  82. - Anonymous - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:05 pm:

==AFSCME members are planning to flood the website with bogus names over the next few weeks.==

You really, honestly think propping up the numbers for this is going to help AFSCME’s cause? Yeah, well, carry on….

  83. - PENSIONS ARE OFF LIMITS - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 10:08 pm:

G.M. Cadillac just posted interest in a state job.

  84. - Johnnie F. - Thursday, Mar 2, 17 @ 11:27 pm:

Couple more days and Rauner will be announcing that all AFSCME positions have been filled and many replacement workers are willing to volunteer without pay!

  85. - Honeybear - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 6:46 am:

Hey folks resentful at State workers.

We once thought we’d teach Quinn a lesson.

Turns out Quinn wasn’t the problem.

    Don’t make the same mistake.

    Stateworkers aren’t the problem.

    But you’ll find that out.

  86. - Kevin Highland - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 6:59 am:

    @Honeybear

Can you give us a hint as to who you think the problem is?

  87. - Anonymous - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 8:11 am:

    “Change is hard.”
    -Bruce Rauner

  88. - A Non - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 8:29 am:

Hoping for a pronouncement from the Fourth District Appellate Court this afternoon. It’s maddening trying to guess what they’ll do. If they’re with AFSCME they may sit on the case for another year. If they’re with Bruce they could’ve stuck it to AFSCME months ago. Maybe that implies they’re with AFSCME.

  89. - A Non - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 8:30 am:

Also, I’d imagine Bruce has been ready to implement his terms for months so I doubt they’re waiting for a signal from him that he’s ready.

  90. - Jo Mama - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 8:44 am:

Must be for the Public Aid Caseworker positions? Good luck with the Food Stamp calculations, Medicaid Medical Card Spend down calculations and the Grant money (I called it-FREE MONEY) calculations

  91. - sal-says - Friday, Mar 3, 17 @ 8:49 am:

Maybe that’s 1700 who can do a better job than our failed IL governor. And they would all be right!
