* You really gotta give the governor mad props for the many ways he manages to get so much positive publicity, particularly from local TV types

Tuesday was moving day for Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and his family.

The Republican governor and his dog Stella were busy moving items into their new residence on the state fairgrounds Tuesday. The family will reside in the new location for about a year while the Governor’s Mansion is under renovation. Rauner will be the first governor to stay on the fairgrounds.

In an exclusive interview with 13 News, reporter Reuben Jones pressed Rauner on whether he plans to run for governor next year. His answer?

“We’re going to deal with that later. Right now my focus is growing the economy,” Rauner said.

As if he would answer that question.

  1. - Stark - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:28 pm:

Local television outlets almost deserve as much of the blame for this crisis as Rauner does. Journalism on local television died a long time ago.

  2. - AlfondoGonz - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:30 pm:

Is there any good reason why he wouldn’t just say “yes”?

  3. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:32 pm:

AlfondoGonz, c’mon, man. You don’t just say something like that. You plan a whole to-do around it.

“Deadbeat central Illinois resident, in six months to a year arrears on current payables with $13.4 billion backlog, currently being sued by own wife, moves from one public housing unit to another at taxpayer expense.”

  5. - Ok - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:35 pm:

Mad props for bought and paid for positive publicity?

  6. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:36 pm:

What do you mean by “bought and paid for”? Doesn’t make any sense.

  7. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:36 pm:

How can you not give serious props to the Rauner Crew.

That Crew and Rauner have made “availability” exactly as they want it staged, messaging exactly as they want it, in a state with the 3rd largest media market, and no expose’ work against him…

Whew, they’ve always had the upper hand since they decided to break the seal for Candidate Rauner, and haven’t looked back.

This is no different, they own the interview and the day.

  8. - Michelle Flaherty - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:37 pm:

Could investigative reporter Reuben please tell us all what Stella the dog was moving?

“The Republican governor and his dog Stella were busy moving items into their new residence on the state fairgrounds Tuesday.”

  9. - Liberty - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:38 pm:

Happy talk news has dominated tv for 25 years, tv reporters are paid **** today and journalism is a fluff degree…

  10. - Boone's is back - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:38 pm:

Did he really need to ask if he’s running again? The dude dropped $50 M into his campaign fund….

  11. - Whatever - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:41 pm:

==In an exclusive interview with 13 News, reporter Reuben Jones pressed Rauner on whether he plans to run for governor next year. His answer?==

“That question is so last year.”

    Fixed it.

  12. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:43 pm:

That Channel 13 report is so exclusive that Channel 7 did the same one yesterday.

Do people in Springfield really believe the governor and his superstars live and work the majority of the time there?

That Rauner will live on the fairgrounds, rather than one of his Chicago area cribs?

Some of the people, all of the time?

  13. - Pundent - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:45 pm:

I’m sure that the media will soon be reporting on a chance shopping trip that Rauner will be taking to the Carhartt store on South Wabash. They’ll probably even him catch him driving to the front door in the trash can van.

  14. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:47 pm:

I don’t know. I have a hard time using words such as respect or mad props with respect to someone who is so disingenuous, dishonest and destructive.

But I understand the point relating to how effective he has been. But by that logic, one would respect and give mad props to people like Kim Kardashian.

  15. - Michelle Flaherty - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:48 pm:

If only the people of Cairo could get as quick access to government housing as the govenror

  16. - Michelle Flaherty - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:54 pm:

Did Ch. 13 have a big planning meeting to draw up the yes/no question before they sent Reuben on a four hour drive to Springfield to ask it? Or did he make up that doozy on the fly?

  17. - Ron Burgundy - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 4:59 pm:

–reporter Reuben Jones pressed Rauner on whether he plans to run for governor next year.–

I think I can answer that question with an, ahem, alternative definition for a favorite word around here — perfidy, to wit:

Perfidy million dollars in his campaign account I think the Governor is running again.

  18. - Lucky Pierre - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 5:12 pm:

The Chicago media should do the same for Senator Cullerton and Speaker Madigan.

Perhaps they could interview him from his Tesla about how their two week Spring breaks are going.

Demi have no message. Just Maps and voter ignorance

  19. - Blue Bayou - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 5:24 pm:

    Lucky Pierre for the….loss!

  20. - Louis G. Atsaves - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 5:27 pm:

What kind of a state do we live in where the Governor has to move into the State Fair Grounds?

    Humpf! /snark

  21. - JoeMaddon - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 5:42 pm:

ILGOP/Rauner are paying Lucky Pierre to comment on here, right?

And clearly paying by the comment?

  22. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 5:42 pm:

I’m sure Paul Lisnek will get to the bottom of it.

  23. - 37B - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 6:30 pm:

Perfect. Give him a megaphone and let him run games on the midway.

Unrelated to the move, but related to the media coverage; The intrepid new Statehouse chief for WCIA found another sleazy State Warehouse lease. Details at 10.

  29. - James Knell - Wednesday, Apr 19, 17 @ 9:36 pm:

Aren’t these local TV stations the chief beneficiaries of all of Rauner’s TV ads? I have to admit I wonder how many of these TV reporters and producers owe their salaries to that revenue. As valuable as puff pieces are to a governor, they are not overtly partisan.

  30. - PDJT - Thursday, Apr 20, 17 @ 7:52 am:

The only news here is that the event being covered was in Springfield and it took a news reporter from Rockford to ask a real news question.

  31. - Carhartt Union Negotiating Team - Thursday, Apr 20, 17 @ 7:58 am:

There’s one local reporter who seems to be running more than just B-roll of Governor Howdee Doo…

I don’t understand the run around on this again. He answered this question a long time ago and said he would only run one more time. Why are we giving him news cycles over whether he will run or not. Sam McCann for Governor 2018!
