* Press release…

Americans for Prosperity-Illinois (AFP-IL) recently launched the “Freeze the Tax” multimedia effort to urge Springfield lawmakers to pass a permanent property tax freeze, legislation AFP-IL has championed for several years. Illinois homeowners already suffer under some of the highest property taxes in the nation, yet property taxes continue to rise at a faster rate than home values and income. “Freeze the Tax” features a web video, digital ad buys, and a direct mail campaign in addition to grassroots activity.

“With negotiations in the General Assembly ongoing and only three weeks remaining in the Legislature’s Spring Session, now is the time for our elected officials to finally resolve this important issue,” stated AFP-IL State Director Andrew Nelms. “We know, both anecdotally and through polling, that Illinois residents overwhelmingly support a long-term property tax freeze. We also know Illinoisans pay more, much more, in property taxes than residents of other states. Yet, the Legislature has failed to get the job done. So we’re sending them a simple message loud and clear – enough is enough, freeze property taxes now!”

Digital ad buys and direct mail target districts of the following elected officials:

    Senators: Sen. Scott Bennett (Champaign), Sen. Melinda Bush (Grayslake), Sen. Cristina Castro (Elgin), Sen. Thomas Cullerton (Villa Park), Sen. William Haine (Alton), Sen. Linda Holmes (Aurora), Sen. Julie Morrison (Deerfield), and Sen. Laura Murphy (Elk Grove Village).

    Representatives: Rep. Daniel Beiser (Alton), Rep. Deb Conroy (Villa Park), Rep. Fred Crespo (Streamwood), Rep. Stephanie Kifowit (Aurora), Rep. Anna Moeller (Elgin), Rep. Martin Moylan (Des Plaines), Rep. Michelle Mussman (Schaumburg), Rep. Carol Sente (Vernon Hills), Rep. Katie Stuart (Collinsville), and Rep. Sam Yingling (Round Lake Beach).

* Script…

“Illinois homeowners pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation and property taxes keep going up, faster than our home values and family incomes. For far too long, Springfield has failed to provide any relief. It’s time to give homeowners a break. Tell Springfield to pass a permanent property tax freeze. Take action at FreezeTheTax.com.”

    Awfully matter-of-fact in tone. Speaking in generalities rather than the individual homeowner e.g. “you” or “we.” Not too motivating.

    If they are advocating for a property tax freeze, do they also support the higher or progressive income tax that will be required to support proper K-12 school funding?

    Democrats continue to lose the messaging.

    Daily.

    When it’s the only message out there, there’s not much out there to help the hammering and shaking ads like this will continue.

    The ad itself is barely a “C-”, maybe, if I’m being super generous.

    It’s an “A”, because Democrats just seem more than willing to let themselves be hammered and shook.

    If you were in charge of the Dems messaging what would you say Willy? When one side is advocating for people paying less in taxes, something pretty much all voters like, what does the other side say?

    ===If you were in charge of the Dems messaging what would you say===

    100%, the Dems, collectively, individually, or in “small groups” are not looking to me.

    That said, I have given examples, like property taxes reflect a community’s commitment towards education and this freeze takes monies out of schools and has been proposed at times to lower wages of working people… I have also tried to point to where Dems fail miserably to holding Rauner on hurting higher education and social services, playing offense to Rauner indefensible way of governing.

    Don’t hold your breath, when the Dems decide to ask me, I’ll let you know. With respect.

    If you want a property tax freeze, then don’t complain when your police & fire protection, public works, art, music and sports in schools are cut.

  7. - Red Rider - Monday, May 15, 17 @ 1:20 pm:

    Don’t want high taxes, don’t buy a expensive house, k i s s.

  8. - Cook County Commoner - Monday, May 15, 17 @ 1:40 pm:

    What happened to the talk years ago of a swap for lower prop taxes in favor of higher income taxes? Wasn’t that part of one of the more dated grand bargains/

  9. - Joe M - Monday, May 15, 17 @ 2:27 pm:

    The State has the primary responsibility for financing the system of public education. (Illinois Constitution).

    The largest part by far of one’s property tax bill goes for K-12 education. If the State funded public education as it is constitutionally required to do, then property taxes could go down. That is what they should be protesting.

    Wow
    The fifth wealthiest and largest state needs a lot of money to operate it’s governments. Let’s pretend we’re Indiana, but you know, still live in Illinois.

    Says the people driving leased imported SUVs. Would they want their expensive car if it had Mitsubishi parts and assembly?

    People who don’t see value usually demand that stuff be cheap.

    Thanks for churning out generations of civics-ignorant citizens who value government less than their cell phones. And we wonder why they hate their duties as citizens?

    Forget the political correct stuff - TEACH CIVICS!

    ===TEACH CIVICS===

    Can I download that from the Apple Store?

  12. - blue dog dem - Monday, May 15, 17 @ 8:13 pm:

    Fifth wealthiest? I would say second poorest.
