Pritzker in the mailboxes

Saturday, Jun 24, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* JB Pritzker isn’t just on TV now, he’s also sending campaign mailers. This one is apparently being targeted at women, according to people who’ve received it. Click the pics for larger images…

* And here’s the other one…

A counter-attack to Rauner’s attack ads. JBP is the only Democratic candidate with enough money available to do so.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 11:59 am:

    Art - “A”

    Content - “C-”

I’ve read novellas with fewer words.

    Dot points, Visual box checks.

It’s June, no one is reading stuff like this, yet, no matter “how important” y’all may think every single syllable is.

Multiple paragraphs for multiple points… Ugh.

    Gotta get this cut down.

    Overall? “B, B-”

Mail at times is to make someone in a campaign feel like “we’re doing something”.

This seems like that a bit.

It’s in the mailbox, it will help in name ID… that’s about it… oh, and it makes someone feel that the campaign is engaged, “campaign staff management”… “candidate management too”?

For voters in Southern Illinois, where we don’t see the TV ads, this is what it will take to win the primary. These are both impressive introduction mailers.

    Already?? So early.

  5. - G'Kar - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 1:37 pm:

    My wife received one today.

You’re right, actually, and in that, this seems more understandable.

Also knowing a mailing’s universe by geography and audience is important, and explaing that rationale, I can see that.

I stand by my mailing presentation critique, however. It’s June, 9 months away from the Primary.

Direct mail now? Strikes me as a very consultant (i.e. $$) driven strategy.

  8. - wordslinger - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 2:59 pm:

Rauner’s biggest, mostest, onlyiest advantage was money.

That’s how he beat The Invincible Pat Quinn. He rocketed to 50.5% of the vote against the Mighty Quinn, before he anyone really knew him and he built his own stellar record of accomplishment.

Pritzker cancels out the money advantage.

It’s like KD canceling out Lebron. What else do you got?

  9. - Ahem - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 3:51 pm:

    Who defines “our values?”

    Rahm Emanuel?

  10. - pawn - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 3:58 pm:

OW, you may not be the target audience. There is credible research, originally from the advertising industry, that shows that men and women, generally speaking, will react differently when presented with multiple pieces of information to assimilate. In general, men tend to isolate one piece that they deem the most important and discard the rest. Women try to integrate all of it together. This leads the ad industry to try to work within those tendencies so that ads targeted to men will have 10 words or fewer, while ads for women will average 100 words or so. The New Yorker did a fascinating piece on this years ago.

===…you may not be the target audience===

With no snark intended, I’m sure with one I’m not.

===The New Yorker did a fascinating piece on this years ago.===

I’ll need to search for that. Thanks. It’s sounds interesting. I could use a lil more information as to tendencies, so this should help.

  12. - Fax Machine - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 4:09 pm:

Me & my brother (both single men) got the ads so they must not be targeting women that great.

I want to know are they targeting 3/3 Dems? 2/3? Statewide mailers are hella expensive

I voted Republican last year, but Dem in the previous 2. My guess is strong and lean Dems. But yeah, that’s way too much info. It’s like he’s spending money just because he can.

  14. - Emerson - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 5:58 pm:

I’m in Peoria and received both this week

  15. - Responsa - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 7:12 pm:

I hope JB understands that his ad consultants and creative team are out to spend as much of his wealth as possible for as long as possible via their billings and fees. It’s his money, but it’s mostly wasted this early with respect to mailers (most of which go straight into the recycling bins).

  16. - Lakeview Dude - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 8:03 pm:

Received one today in a Chicago. I’m a 3/3 Dem primary voter

  17. - Emily Booth - Saturday, Jun 24, 17 @ 8:50 pm:

Pritzker ads are appearing on my FB wall. Which is pretty sophisticated marketing if you ask me. Because I don’t watch TV.

  18. - the Cardinal - Sunday, Jun 25, 17 @ 10:07 am:

All the adds mailers come down to one thing in 2018…the question is simple. Do you want to revert back to more government and higher/ more taxes ? Or reduced government services the status quo taxes( assume 2014 levels). The concern is what policies do the Billionairs club bring to tha table that will create more jobs, stop the current job hemorrhaging and slow/end intellectual exodus? Take care of the economy and much of the other things will fall in line.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Sunday, Jun 25, 17 @ 10:39 am:

    - the Cardinal -

Right now, the Rauner stays quo is polling upside down with 58% disapproval of Bruce Rauner.

Rauner is trying to run against Speaker Madigan, not on being Bruce Rauner, as an incumbent.

That’s says quite a bit there.

  20. - Jerry - Monday, Jun 26, 17 @ 10:06 am:

We even got these all the way out in Sugar Grove!

  21. - pawn - Monday, Jun 26, 17 @ 5:27 pm:

OW, don’t know if you will ever see this since this thread was a couple of days ago, but here is a link:http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1997/07/28/listening-to-khakis
