* Rauner
* Kennedy
* Biss
My own impression is that somebody is trying to get ahead of something.
- Joe M - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:15 pm:
Since its not illegal to pay one’s property taxes late, I don’t see what the big deal is?

Who is missing? Who?
No, not Sandack… Who?
I’ll bet a bottle of Jim Beam I can guess…
- DrurysMissingClock - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:17 pm:
Shoddy cover for JB’s hacks faced with charges about the dumpster mansion story. There’s no legs here.
- Fax Machine - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:17 pm:
This oppo makes me sad.
- Linus - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
Willy, I’ll see your bet and raise you a bottle of J&B Whiskey!
- Periwinkle - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:18 pm:
This is…not an issue.
- HL Mencken - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:19 pm:
Only in a state where millions are paid in interest because of late payment of bills, and where a cottage industry has grown up to finance these late payments can some late payment of property taxes be a story.
- Fax Machine - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:19 pm:
Next we’ll hear that the candidates for Governor got speeding tickets! The horror!
- Skeptic - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:19 pm:
I dunno, if someone willingly wants to (effectively) pay more property taxes [by paying interest] seems to me we should be cheering and not saying tsk tsk, but that’s just me.
- Dublin - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:20 pm:
Agree with Joe. If you pay late - you pay penalties. Not that big of a deal as long as it’s not paid years later.
- Well then - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:21 pm:
Guess the interest charges aren’t much to a billionaire but to most of us $1,200 plus is a lot. Not illegal but seems like poor fiscal management.
- 47th Ward - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:24 pm:
In fairness, Rauner has nine homes, plus the various properties like parking spots. So it’s hard to keep track of all of those tax bills.
- Sue - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:25 pm:
Based on the stature penalties being usurious- every county in Illinois probably wishes all homeowners paid their bills late
- Keyrock - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:25 pm:
If your ridin’ your cycle out on your ranch and don’t pick up the mail for a while, these things happen.
- don't they then... - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:25 pm:
… pay more? I’d think this is some pretty relatable “dirt” for a lot of people given the property taxes in this state.
- Joe M - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:26 pm:
Sometimes people in that situation misjudged their cash flow and/or are waiting for dividend checks and/or the cost of the interests is less than the loss of investment opportunity, etc. I’m too poor to have those kind of problems, but I imagine they do happen to some.
- Tommydanger - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:27 pm:
Big. Deal. Not.
- bored now - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:30 pm:
wouldn’t surprise me if one of those three (well, maybe two — not sure that biss would be doing oppo on rauner yet) dumped it!
- 360 Degree Turnaround - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:31 pm:
I’m glad Rauner isn’t the keeper of the state finances. Do we really need an oppo dump on Rauner this week?
- Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:34 pm:
Yeah. Not a big deal. Maybe it could be spun as a “how can they run the state, when they can’t even run their own household?” shtick. But really, it is a bill that you receive in March that the first half is due in June and the second in… uh… September or October…. Yeah, easy thing to miss.
- A guy - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:36 pm:
Still searching for the story here…
One can make a case that the government benefited from these later payments.
- Anonymous - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:36 pm:
This is shocking…ly desperate.
- Anon221 - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:36 pm:
Did Stella eat the checkbook;)
- A guy - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:38 pm:
Some of these payments could be from a bank escrow as well. Many real estate taxes are paid this way. Still…not much here. In fact…nothing here.
- Rich Miller - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:38 pm:
I wouldn’t assume that this is from the Pritzker campaign.
- Silver Dollar Bill - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:39 pm:
More lameness from camp JB. I haven’t seen anything more than amateur hour over there. Want to be the frontrunner? Run a frontrunner operation.
- Doofman - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:42 pm:
Biss paid ALMOST $100 in interest. Pearl-clutching time.
- DuPage Saint - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:46 pm:
Only thing I want to know is how many homestead exemption these multi home owners claim. Of course I would still like to know what home Rauner claimed to get his child into Walter Peyton and where he voted when child at Walter Payton
- Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:53 pm:
===I wouldn’t assume that this is from the Pritzker campaign.===
Now you leave me stumped. Pawar? Is there a possible R out there doing this? Kennedy himself? Eh, it Friday, I’m done thinking about it. Switching from Rich Miller to Lite Miller. Happy weekend!
- Soccermom - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:53 pm:
DANIEL BISS! FORTY-SEVEN DOLLARS AND SEVENTY-THREE CENTS!
HOW DOES HE LIVE WITH HIMSELF????????
- Soccermom - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:53 pm:
And who is dropping oppo on the Friday of a holiday week?
- Ron Burgundy - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:56 pm:
I would totally shrug this off if these people had a lender and were paying the taxes through escrow, as lenders are sometimes late with this stuff. I would think that the first two gentlemen listed do not have that issue, though.
- Knob - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 3:56 pm:
I think that Biss, Konnedy, and Ruiner have been missing breakfast to often and forgot to pay their taxes on time.
- Sox Fan - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:00 pm:
I once paid my property taxes late due to a mix-up with my escrow post-sale. Guess I can no longer consider running for office.
- whetstone - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:00 pm:
I was going to say I was surprised that they’re not paying out of escrow but it sounds like late payments happen with that (haven’t had it happen to me, knock on wood). Otherwise this is a ridiculous nothingburger.
- jim - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:01 pm:
hey 47th ward, you’re definitely right. this is indisputable proof that Rauner is a wealthy man. who knew?
- Anonymous - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:09 pm:
No big deal - but it does Rauner no good either. For a fellow that has a 58% disapproval rate, a reputation of screwing people around, reported nursing home problems, angry wife(?), oops forget that one…..just saying it can do him no good. You got the bucks to pay somebody to keep stupid little things like this from your opponents bad intentions.
- Anonish - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:25 pm:
Weak. Especially since majority of property taxes are paid through a bank controlled escrow
- Juggler - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:32 pm:
Can we please Biss Daniel good bye?
- Arsenal - Friday, Jul 7, 17 @ 4:34 pm:
==Can we please Biss Daniel good bye?==
I don’t particularly get the impression that he’s running out of steam.
