ILGOP Releases Video – Mike Madigan’s Tax Hike
Madigan’s Tax Hike Will Hurt Taxpayers
Mike Madigan’s permanent 32% tax hike includes zero reforms to help the people and fix our political system. It only rewards Madigan and his cronies with more taxpayer money that they have proven incapable of spending wisely. It’s a disaster for the long term health of Illinois.
The Illinois Republican Party is highlighting Madigan’s tax hike with a new digital video.
I think that the property tax angle is the one that is most dangerous right now to Madigan.
I have seen a considerable downplaying of the pennies that the tax increase supposedly means to people, but the property tax situation is completely out of control, and why even many Democrats scoff at the idea that tax situation as a whole in Illinois isn’t that bad.
Surging property tax costs are something people see every year and of late they are getting so extreme it is hard to afford even modest housing.
Failure to stop that train will imperil those in Springfield sooner than later politically.
Of course, I did forget…Bruce Rauner isn’t running against Michael Madigan. He’s actually going to have an opponent. And Rauner will have to defend his, ahem, record.
With the number of people I see in my world who are spitting mad about the override (and aren’t even the type to be spout political) this will connect. It plays into an existing narrative- Madigan bad, taxes bad, everything bad. Sure to keep every viewer mad.
I give it a D. He has to move past the Madigan bashing it’s getting very old and it’s petty. He needs to begin to govern and build some accomplishments that he can brag about and put a positive spin on his tenure in office.
This is why a Kennedy nomination will most likely lead to a Rauner defeat. I like Pritzker but he has too many connections to Madigan for most people to vote for.

It’s an “A-”…
“Why?”
It comes from others words, their takes, the reporters with the easy grabs to fit the narrative… It hits all the angry buttons.
It hits all the angry buttons… but where will Rauner point to successes this year?
No budget successes for Rauner.
So, this stuff, it has to be this good.
It’s an “A-”… but an “A” would be a positive video of a governor with a budgetary success. So… “A-”

Half-hearted. You can feel the love with the still and graphics as they hang the hike on MJM. However, the on camera comments just lay there flat. C.

It speaks to me and will reasonate with many ordinary working people.

Always watch without sound. In that context, it’s pretty meaningless. No meaning, no value. F

I was assured that Governors own tax increases and budgets? Guess not.

I don’t like its message. But it may be effective. It has enough untruths to fool people.

The only Democrat for Governor running to distance himself from the Speaker and our corrupt property tax system is Chris Kennedy.
He is also distancing himself from career politicians and the party bosses who are held in such low regard.
Smart politics.

lol, Rauner is at 58% disapproval.
Even Rauner can’t run away from “Rauner”
Rauner fails.
No budget, no successes, nothing.

C. Surprisingly tame relative to the official, taxpayer-funded veto message.

Bad ad.
Appealing to cheap whiney white people complaining about their victimhood is unattractive.
Yeah - I wanna jump on that bandwagon and watch them argue over who chips in to cover the cost of the bandwagon.
