Today, the Illinois Republican Party released robocalls statewide highlighting Mike Madigan’s hostage-taking.
Mike Madigan and his political allies are trying to hold schoolchildren hostage in order to force through a $500 million Chicago bailout without reform.
This comes after Madigan held state government hostage for years in order to force through his 32% permanent income tax hike.
Now, the Chicago Machine is refusing to release education funding for all Illinois schools unless they get their taxpayer funded bailout.
And while Madigan and his allies work the legislative side, Madigan’s candidates for Governor – J.B. Pritzker, Chris Kennedy and Daniel Biss – support the bailout too.
The Illinois Republican Party is committed to exposing Madigan’s hostage-taking scheme.
That’s a school bell ringing, but your kids may not hear it this fall if Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan gets his way.
Mike Madigan and his enablers in the state house are threatening to shut down schools unless they get a special $500 million bailout for Chicago public schools.
First, Madigan held the budget hostage to force through a 32% permanent income tax hike with no reforms.
Now, Madigan is holding our school children hostage to get a $500 million bailout for Chicago.
And Madigan’s candidates for Governor - J.B. Pritzker, Chris Kennedy and Daniel Biss - support the bailout too.
Now is the time to fight back and stop the Chicago politicians before it’s too late.
Call your state representative and state senator. Tell them your higher taxes shouldn’t pay for a Chicago bailout.
The Raunerite state party is so dishonest that they are willing to ignore basic civics to deflect from the severe damage to Illinois that Rauner’s Vetoes could have caused.
The counter effort to this is pretty easy. JB Pritzker funds a robo-call that says “Bruce Rauner has appropriated no money for your school to open this fall, and now he wants to veto more funding for schools”. “Tell your state rep to stand up for kids, not Rauner.” Click.
So, it’s a $500 million bailout now?
After extensive polling, $500 million beat out $200 and $300 by a country mile. So we refigured the numbers. I can’t tell you who, but trust me they are Super Stars. I know they are Super Stars because they are horribly overpaid, so they must be. Try to keep up. We are committed to using the lie which polls the best. We are Super Star World Class. Either that or it was just an honest typo in the copy?/s
“The Illinois Republican Party is committed to exposing Madigan’s hostage-taking scheme;and we are equally committed to remain hostages ourselves.” Fixed it
The ILGOP certainly believes in the end justifies the means so any level of lying is fine and any attempts to point out their falsehoods will be labeled as “fake news from the mainstream media”.
If Madigan dies or has a serious medical issue that keeps him from being Speaker, the entire Illinois Rep Party campaign platform would collapse. What snappy lines do they have that are not Madigan focused? Did they just give up?
Bruce Rauner is not ignorant to how our school system is funded, be it downstate or CPS. At best he is trying to misinform the electorate, but most likely this is just an out and out lie. No, Bruce Rauner knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s banking on the ignorance of our uninformed electorate as well as the need for his base to believe anything and everything, “Because Madigan”.
Are the 10 (to 15) House Republicans who took part in the override allies, enablers, or victims? Hopefully “messaging” can clear this up. /s

=The Raunerite state party=
OW- forgive me if I’ve already asked and you answered (I think you may have)… but what about your views and opinions identifies you as a Republican as opposed to, I don’t know, a Chicago Democrat?
I’m with Edgar and GHR and those who understand that Rauner’s own actions aren’t those of a governor, or based on GOP principles.
Use the google. Get back to me
Are you now going to say Edgar isn’t a Republican too?
- Robert the 1st - Wednesday, Jul 26, 17 @ 1:41 pm:
That’s right, we’ve had this discussion. Your favorite Republican is the one you blame for the pension crisis. I was curious about your personal values and beliefs that cause you to identify as R. None of my business if you don’t want to share.
===I was curious about your personal values and beliefs that cause you to identify as R.===
I’m a Republican.
I think my own comments here can speak to my own values and beliefs and how I see things.
The Edgar Ramp has been a contributing factor to say the least in the pension issues
Both Rich Miller and Dave McKinney have separate, stand alone work detailing the many that brought us here, including multiple Republicans.
Acknowledging where Republicans have let the state down doesn’t make me any less a Republican than going after the complicit Democrats makes me more of a Republican either.
Partisan politics and actual policy ramifications can be looked at objectively, if you choose to
==I was curious about your personal values and beliefs that cause you to identify as R==
You the Party police now? Some sort of litmus test you’d like to tell us all about that helps you determine what Party you believe someone belongs in. This entire line of questioning is beyond silly.
- Robert the 1st - Wednesday, Jul 26, 17 @ 1:59 pm:
I asked a personal question that I admitted wasn’t my business Demoralized. For someone who accuses everyone you disagree with here as “playing the victim” you sure are touchy.
Right now, my party has been hijacked so completely by a think tank and Raunerism, it’s difficult to enjoy the fun banter of what makes anyone identifiable with any party or policy.
These are odd times. Reading here without knowing intent, it’s tough in these times to find the snark in just reading the words.
Don’t take anything personally on this, you fell victim, no different than me too at times, to the seriousness of today, and the seriousness of the moment.
===I don’t think politics in IL will be any less crazy in the foreseeable future.===
That’s true.
If this is wag shaking and brining back was suppose to be, “all things considered, I’d rather be in Philadelphia…”

To me, OW has been a consistent voice of reason and insight. It’s odd that whenever somebody disagrees with a point that he makes, they go after him personally. Often, they call him a Madigan acolyte or sycophant. There are a lot of people in this state that do not support Madigan that are disappointed by Rauner’s failures. Rauner refuses to answer questions. He has NEVER proposed a balanced budget nor has he advanced any solutions to any of our problems. Lately, he has begun to relate conversations that didn’t occur and spread blatantly untrue statements. Now, he’s embraced a far right ideology which shows either a change in his personal beliefs or that he lied to everybody when he first ran. His “democrat” wife promised us that he had no social agenda. Oops, maybe they should have a conversation because it sure looks like they’re trying to say different things to different people. It’s easy to say that we need to solve the pension problem but he hasn’t offered any suggestions to do so. Let’s accept the premise that Madigan is to blame for a lot. Accepting that, what has Rauner done to improve things in Illinois-NOTHING. His failed plan to get the majority party to cave in, capitulate and surrender has made things worse with no benefit to the people of this state. We have real problems and Rauner has proven that he’s not up to the job. What’s worse is that he’s going to lose to somebody truly unimpressive.
