Question of the day

Friday, Aug 4, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Generally it’s believed that when people start complaining about seeing your ads too much, that means the ads are getting through

Heh.

Not everyone watches TV, so you gotta get ‘em wherever else they are.

* The Question: What online ads are you noticing lately? It’s Friday, so you don’t have to contain your responses to Illinois politics, but you can if you want.

Chris Kennedy ad on YouTube. It’s a stupid ad.

  2. - walker - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 1:25 pm:

Noticing the “Do Your Job” ads. Pointed, don’t waste my time, or exceed my short attention span.

  3. - Anonamouse - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 1:33 pm:

    One word: Spotify.

  4. - Super Nintendo chalmers - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 1:38 pm:

I was recently looking at JNCO jeans and super ugly and expensive stuff from Barney’s, so I’m seeing a lot of ads for overpriced ugly stuff

  5. - Huh? - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 1:42 pm:

A 1.4% ad came through one of the game as on my phone a week or so ago. Needless to say, was hitting the home key to exit out of the ad.

  6. - Apropos - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 1:54 pm:

    add for OZARK on netflix

  7. - Tommydanger - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:02 pm:

kars4kids is a flesh eating beetle that entered one ear and is eating its way through to the other side.

I’d gladly donate my new car if they promised to go away.

  8. - Illinois Native - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:07 pm:

The only Illinois political ad that I have seen recently was an ad for JB Pritzker on TV (not the internet).

  9. - Fridizzle - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:08 pm:

Saw the ads for ozark and watched it. It is actually pretty good, would recommend.

  10. - Anony - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:39 pm:

Ozark is a really good show. I highly recommend.

  11. - ??? - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:51 pm:

Those poorly-made, infomercial-type ads denouncing people criticizing Trump and giving you a number to call/text to “express your support for President Trump” - whatever that means. I have been seeing these for a while on CNN.

  12. - Arthur Andersen - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:56 pm:

A lot of JB He seems to be everywhere.

  13. - sharkette - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 2:57 pm:

    FYI;

I’d gladly donate my new car if they promised to go away.

karsforkids is owned by a Jewish temple on long island.
So those that use them may be supporting them unknowingly

  14. - Pelonski - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:01 pm:

I have most online ads blocked out, but for the sites where I allow them, I’m, getting mostly car and pet food ads based off my recent searches. I occasionally get political ads at these sites, but it’s been a while since I’ve noticed one.

  15. - cover - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:07 pm:

I have been seeing lots of ads for online dating services in my mail apps since my separation - Google and the like must know me well!

Most other online/banner ads I simply ignore.

  16. - A guy - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:11 pm:

The Facebook algorithms must prevent me from seeing JB ads, but I do see a very occasional Kennedy ad. I have a few FB friends supporting him, so that must be how they pop up.

The algorithm popping up JB and Ozark in some tandem is interesting though. lol

    Ozark is a good show.

  17. - Jerry 101 - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:11 pm:

My pandora account still thinks I live in Illinois, so I get a lot of ads to go on vacation in Wisconsin. Strangely, no political stuff yet.

But the ad that I get a lot that really annoys me is an ad for a home security company. It has some woman calling a competing company and saying “we’ve just been broken into and we need a home security system”. I don’t want to rehash the whole thing, but it’s pretty darned stupid and annoying.

  18. - Stones - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:20 pm:

Living in Florida I continually get ads for crematoriums. No joke.

  19. - Excessively Rabid - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:39 pm:

Bad question. Should be, “What Leonard Cohen song should Pritzker use in his ads?” I’m going with There is a War.

  20. - sleepy - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:42 pm:

Miles Chevrolet ads on Pandora, same one, over and over

  21. - ughhh - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:56 pm:

    Karly Kloss Wix Ad

  22. - ste_with_a_v_en - Friday, Aug 4, 17 @ 3:59 pm:

Ublock origin and adblock help resolve those issues
