New Pritzker video spoofs Rauner’s SB1 oopsies

Tuesday, Aug 8, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Pritzker campaign…

Crisis Creatin’ Rauner released a new video today called ‘Get Educated,’ highlighting the fact that Bruce Rauner doesn’t know what’s in his own education funding plan, let alone how to pass it.

Over the past few weeks, Bruce Rauner and his team of “superstars” have stumbled over basic questions about his school funding plan. Rauner could not answer simple questions about where the numbers in his plan came from and did not know the basic legislative process needed to pass it. As Rauner would say: outrageous.

“Bruce Rauner and his team of ’superstars’ need to get educated on their own school funding plan and the basic legislative process needed to pass it,” said Pritzker campaign spokeswoman Jordan Abudayyeh. “It’s outrageous that funding for schoolchildren across the state is being held hostage to this incompetent administration and this failed governor’s radical agenda.”

* The updated video with typo corrected

Thoughts?

…Adding… There’s a typo at the 10-second mark. Instead of “amendatory veto,” the scroll at the bottom calls it an “erica mandatory veto.” Outrageous!

effective, most effective /sounds of heavy mechanical breathing. que john williams

  2. - John Rawlss - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:39 am:

Wow this video sucks. All over the place. More lack of discipline from the Hillary 2.0 DC campaign

  3. - Norseman - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:40 am:

That ought to make a mark.

I like it. Purposefully made Rauner looked like the buffoon he is.

  4. - Montrose - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:42 am:

I wanted to like it, but it felt a little too wonky to me and was a bit hard to follow.

  5. - Gooner - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:43 am:

This was an easy case to make, but the ad is terrible. Completely disjointed. The weird yellow lines add confusion to the ad’s message.

You really don’t see enough of Rauner’s errors.

This should be an easy A but they blew it. I give it a D.

I like it, I like the music, I like that he’s wearing a mortarboard that is askew, I like that everyone seems to understand the process except the governor and his superstars. But I mostly like that it makes me think of the Three Stooges Swingin’ the alphabet song.
    All together now B A Bay, B E Be, B I bicky by B O Bick Bi Bo Boo….

    Outrageously well done(Exclamation Point).

  9. - Dr X - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:47 am:

No good - doesn’t give the average person any context and it focuses on the inside baseball stuff, the average person will not get.

Get a talkin’ head to say “Here is Rauner after months of research offering no calculations” Here is Rauner not knowing basic procedure.” Here is Rauner offering his stats then hiding it behind a password” Here is Rauner….” Make multiple videos.

  10. - tomhail - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:48 am:

Ah. So much more persuasive with a great soundtrack.

  11. - Markus - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:48 am:

    Gooner +1

Missed the mark to leave a mark.

  12. - aufjunk - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:50 am:

So fast moving that it was hard for me to follow. I had to replay it and hit the pause button to get the full message, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I will probably come back to it and play it again. I particularly like the closing, which reprises the Gov outing his rage for us.

  13. - Grandson of Man - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:50 am:

Too busy and confusing for those of us who haven’t been closely following the situation. Plus, Rauner should be wearing a dunce cap instead of a graduation cap.

  14. - Paddy - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:50 am:

Very quirky. But then, these are quirky times. The Russian judges give it an “8.5″.
Oh, maybe I shouldn’t say “Russian”.

  15. - Mr. K - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:51 am:

I’d like to see an updated version with yesterday’s bizarre press conference — Rauner smirking, looking off, shrugging.

    That’s the real Rauner.

  16. - Louis G. Atsaves - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:54 am:

Not very effective. Too mush insider political stuff. Too much procedure over substance ridicule.

    D+

  17. - Today's Pick 4 are 3671 - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 11:59 am:

    Kinda Proft-like, actually

  18. - Baloneymous - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:02 pm:

===Too much procedure over substance ridicule===

I think that’s the point. He has no substance, and he doesn’t understand the procedures. Hence the ridicule.

  19. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:07 pm:

    Typo notwithstanding… lol

    To the video,

You have a 76 second video with music rushing me thru the frames.

The whimsical music is one thing, it’s too quick of a tempo for such a long video… It’s “pushing” me thru, rushing me thru, not allowing me to take in the images.

To that, even the words “popping”, and the yellow lines “moving”, there is a hurried-ness in those visuals too. Watch it again. The first Post-It and the yellow line after, yikes, I’m being forced to “keep up”

    Now, to content.

Like anything, if you’re exploding a visual, you’re losing the impact of the “obvious”.

You don’t need to be so “clever” when keeping it simple reminds Rauner is a “Simpleton” to the governing, the fallout, the institutional knowledge, even the “next step” ignorance.

… all that and I’m being “rushed” to soak in the explaining, the visual, and marrying “what I’m seeing” to “what it all means”

I guess my takeaway is this, and back to the top…

    It’s 76 seconds.

Even rushing me, explaing to me, giving me the payoff, it’s either 16 seconds “too long” even rushing me, or two separate 60 second slams that someone wanted in a one stop ding, that went “too long”, says too much, and I feel rushed watching the thing in the end.

    It’s a “C-, D+”, in finality…

..,a “B+” in concept… that lost its way.

  20. - 47th Ward - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:09 pm:

This isn’t the best use of it, but I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of Governor Rauner’s bumbling veto video in the future.

I’d suggest setting up a 7th grade civics class that is learning basic state constitutional stuff, like how many votes it takes to override a veto and juxtapose Governor Bumbler’s stammering nonsense.

Then you’d ask, is Governor Rauner smarter than a 7th grader?

  21. - Ray del Camino - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:18 pm:

I think it’s meant for the inside-baseball types–and for the Raunerites, just to yank their chains. It’s funny and shows Baron Von Carhartt to be a hapless dope. I like it.

  22. - City Zen - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:26 pm:

Bruce’s tossle placement on the left implies he has already graduated. Is the implication he still “needs to get educated” post graduation a comment on the quality of schools?

  23. - Seats - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:32 pm:

For those of us who follow it is a lot of fun. But for those of us following we probably weren’t a fan of Bruce already.

I feel like it would be too confusing of an ad for those who don’t follow politics closely.

  24. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:44 pm:

It’s pretty good, but is anyone gonna actually see it?

  25. - Flapdoodle - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:47 pm:

C+ Too much time being cute, too little time hammering message home. Will be appreciated by the choir, but the unpersuaded will switch off.

  26. - Ducky LaMoore - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:49 pm:

Uhhgg. They could have done this much better. B for content. D- for execution.

  27. - Deft Wing - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 12:51 pm:

Good concept, poorly executed. Should have been an “A” but is instead is a “C” because it is not smooth or easy to follow. It’s almost as if the idea was so appealing that a rushed commercial was made. #Ironic

  28. - MissingG - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 1:09 pm:

I agree that it’s not an excellent ad, and the yellow lines and some of the headline images thrown up are a bit hectic, but I think the idea of the yellow line (to visually connect to his blue/yellow logo) is a good one. If it were realized better, it would be an effective visual hint. (Like the logo generally is reminiscent of the HRC logo to lefties…no, not that HRC).

  29. - Oneman - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 1:38 pm:

Not sure if the time of year (and the cycle) is worth that kind of effort.

  30. - Mike - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 3:15 pm:

This is a web ad. Regular non-political junkies are unlikely to watch it as it won’t be on TV.

  31. - Amalia - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 3:28 pm:

Erica M. Veto name soon to appear on Pritzker spoofs.

  32. - A guy - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 4:02 pm:

One additional add: they took a long time…to rush a message. That’s almost impossible to do on purpose. Yet, they did. Jeesh.

  33. - Mama - Tuesday, Aug 8, 17 @ 5:06 pm:

I liked most of it so I’ll give it a B-.

  34. - Mr. B. - Wednesday, Aug 9, 17 @ 1:04 am:

Most of us civilians can’t really comprehend the overall issues with SB1. Rauner will shoulder the blame on this, as education is a sensitive issue.

  35. - Yellow Dog Democrat - Wednesday, Aug 9, 17 @ 6:39 am:

You missed a lay-up by trying to slam dunk.

Less showboating, more style and grace.

    D.
