Biss again calls on opponents to release tax returns

Thursday, Aug 17, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* From Sen. Daniel Biss’ campaign…

It’s now been 125 days since all the Democratic candidates for governor of Illinois pledged to follow Daniel Biss in releasing their tax returns.

To date, none have.

If you’re down in Springfield for Dem Day, it’s worth asking Mr. Pritzker and Mr. Kennedy why it’s taken so long to keep their word and release their tax returns.

Biss released his tax returns in April. JB Pritzker, Chris Kennedy and Ameya Pawar all promised to release their returns the next day.

* Bernie

Democratic governor candidate J.B. PRITZKER says he intends to provide income-tax return information well before the March primary.

“I’ll put them out soon,” he said when I asked about the issue in an interview I had this week with him and his running mate, state Rep. JULIANA STRATTON, D-Chicago.

GOP Gov. BRUCE RAUNER, who doesn’t take pay as governor but made more than $187 million in 2015, has provided income-tax information during his time in office, though he only provides the top couple pages of state and federal joint returns with his wife.

Pritzker, who Forbes lists as having net worth of $3.4 billion, said he didn’t know if he would put out all the schedules with his disclosure.

Thoughts?

If the other Dem candidates want to follow Trump’s lead, that’s their perogative.

JB still has some toilets, plumbing bills and reassessments to deal with. When you see the porcelain thrones on the curb on Lake Shore Dr. you’re a couple days out from seeing the return.

Really weak Daniel. Everyone has said they will release. So your point is???

Are you kidding? His point is that it’s been 4 months since they said that, and there’s no sign it’s actually coming.

You know who else promised to eventually release their tax returns? Trump. “The problem” is that saying you’re going to do things and actually doing them happen to be different.

If you really do intend to release the returns, it makes zero sense to drag it out and give Biss a great big mallet to repeatedly beat you over the head with.

Income tax returns tell you very little. Lets see FMV financial statements reviewed by a major CPA firm.
Then you will have a better understanding of their investments and net worth.

Pritzker and Kennedy need to release at least as much of their tax return information as Rauner has.

  8. - Anon0091 - Thursday, Aug 17, 17 @ 12:25 pm:

No PJ, I’m not kidding. And Trump promised to release his returns when the fake audit was complete. Nobody is putting up obstacles. Many people like myself wait until their extensions expire in October to file. So you’re kind of jumping the gun here.

And to be clear, they’re both going to release and Pritzker just recommitted to it. So as of now, yawn.

Biss is a non starter grasping for media moments.

  11. - Periwinkle - Thursday, Aug 17, 17 @ 2:00 pm:

If they’re really going to release them, there’s no good explanation for the holdup other than they think they will hurt and not help them.

Seems like delay is a strategy to clear the field first to soften the hit they think will come with releasing them.

Everyone should release their tax returns. And the Governor should take his salary. I’m not interested in volunteer Governors. Its a steaming pile of dog poo-poo on a snowy day.

  13. - Anon0091 - Thursday, Aug 17, 17 @ 10:02 pm:

Periwinkle, would you like them to release their returns before they file them? Returns not due until 10/15.

    The floundering four.
    1. Pawar
    2. Biss
    3. Pritzker
    4. Kennedy
    In that order.

No, I want them to release past years that they have in their file cabinet, like Biss did and like they said they would do.
