Frankly, I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often. And if you click here and read through the comments, you’ll see why.

* “It was not the most coherent message,” Madigan’s spokesman Steve Brown said of the sleeveless man this morning. As you can see from the second pic, Brown was with Madigan at the restaurant.

Brown said the guy said something like “I never voted for you and I probably never will,” and then said something about how people should “work together.” And after saying that several times, he left. It lasted about 30 seconds, according to Brown. The governor’s name wasn’t mentioned, Brown said, and alcohol may have been involved.

Several years ago, I was walking with Madigan at the Statehouse trying to get him to tell me something when he was accosted by a very angry man. Madigan remained cool and calm and the man said his piece and eventually walked away. It kinda spooked me, but Madigan went on chatting after the dude departed.

I have my strong feelings on the both of them, but I did not feel the need to disturb either of them, as they were both on their own personal time and not engaged in state functions. On a side note, I am extremely concerned about the state of our country, and the vitriolic temperament involved in our public discourse. I am Facebook friends with a former high school classmate of mine. He is a huge Trump supporter and makes degrading statements and personal attacks about “liberals” whenever he gets the chance. When we were in high school together, I really liked this guy and I would probably buy him a beer if I saw him out. We grew up in the same neighborhood, played football together, and have so many other things in common. When it comes to how we engage in political discourse, however, we couldn’t be any more different All I can think about is how could this have happened? With all of our similarities I imagine that we generally value the same things: good schools for children to attend, a place to work and make enough money to support ourselves and our families, and generally have a safe and enjoyable place to live. Of course we may disagree on how we get there, but what’s important is that we both want the same things. I think that is what is lost on many people in society today. We aren’t against you - we are in it together to achieve the same thing. We have Central Illinois Poultry Processing and Petersburg Poultry Processing that will do custom processing, but you need to schedule way in advance because the turkeys cost more to process and can’t be run at the same time as chickens.
