New JB Pritker online ad calls President Trump “a racist and a xenophobe”

Tuesday, Oct 3, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* It’s a short spot meant for social media

Illinois needs a governor who will stand up to Donald Trump

Posted by JB Pritzker on Tuesday, October 3, 2017

A buddy pointed me to it, saying he’d been served the ad twice on Facebook today.

* The ad begins with footage of President Trump superimposed with the words: “Trump refuses to condemn white supremacists”…

Trump: There’s blame on both sides.

Pritzker: Donald Trump is a racist and a xenophobe. When I’m governor, Illinois will be a firewall against Trump’s destructive and bigoted agenda.

* Pritzker said the same thing during the Illinois State Fair

Gubernatorial hopeful J.B. Pritzker had the most damning take on President Donald Trump, calling him “a racist and a bigot and a xenophobe and a liar.”

Thoughts?

Where was J. B. Pritzker during the 2016 campaign? Was he knocking on doors in any of the states that border Illinois (all five of which went for Trump) or working at a telephone bank?

I guess it was easier to remain invisible and write a check.

Your opponent is Rauner who is not a Trumpster.

  2. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:03 pm:

    From Merriam Webster:

    –Racist
:a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race –

    –Xeonophobe
:one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin –

I’m sure there are some very fine people on both sides.

Baby, when the Nazis and the Klan are marching armed in the street, pick a side.

    They have track records.

  3. - cdog - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:10 pm:

So Pritzker is supportive of the violence that has been committed by people dressed in black, faces covered, carrying and using their pipes?

    Don’t blame them?

There are bad people with bad motives on both sides.

  4. - IRLJ - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:13 pm:

Good for JB, acting like the front-runner he is. Much as Rauner might wish to run away from Trump, what the President does nationally has tentacles that touch us in Illinois.

  5. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:14 pm:

It’s absolutely fair, and on the mark, and running against Trump on this issue, picking sides against xenophobs and racist, people that Trump says “some are good people”

    Yep. It’s good. Well done.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:17 pm:

===There are bad people with bad motives on both sides.===

    So you support nazis?

  7. - Guzzlepot - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:19 pm:

It will play well in the Democratic primary. What are Kennedy and Biss going to do, say that Trump isn’t a racist and xenophobe?

  8. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:19 pm:

–So Pritzker is supportive of the violence that has been committed by people dressed in black, faces covered, carrying and using their pipes?–

    How’d you land there, Socrates?

  9. - Steve - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:21 pm:

Is J.B. proud of Trump’s relationship with “the family” ?
    http://www.nytimes.com/1996/10/08/business/trump-sells-hyatt-share-to-pritzkers.html

  10. - ILPundit - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:22 pm:

Looks like he’s trying to co-opt Kennedy’s messaging, which has had far more of a national flavor. Perhaps what Pritzker is doing hasn’t been enough to break away from the field yet?

  11. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:23 pm:

    - Steve -

From your link, the NY Times…

===But more than anything, the deal finally disentangles the very private Pritzker family from the very flamboyant Mr. Trump===

  12. - Wensicia - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:26 pm:

I think it’s fair, compared to what Trump has said and continues to say about various minorities living in this country, and the harm his office is inflicting on most of them, including those who live in Illinois.

  13. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:26 pm:

    - Steve -

Also from the link… NY Times…

===But the two partners never really got along. Two arbitration proceedings failed to stem the bickering, and in 1993 Mr. Trump sued Jay Pritzker and the Hyatt Corporation. The company countersued seven months later. The two sides managed to settle their dispute in 1995, with the Pritzkers agreeing to pay Mr. Trump’s legal fees and to finance a $25 million renovation of the hotel. But the peace treaty was seen by many hotel analysts as a prelude to a sale.===

Don’t sound like they got along at all.

  14. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:27 pm:

Arc this point, not getting sued by Trump in the business community IS getting along with Trump.

  15. - Blue dog dem - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:33 pm:

    Name calling is soooo. …..Trumplike

  16. - The Old Professor - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:34 pm:

J B Pritzker used that precise phrase “Trump is a racist and a xenophobe” to me in a conversation after the Champaign-Urbana July 4th Parade.

  17. - King Louie - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:35 pm:

Trump taints Rauner, whether or not they’ve had any significant conversations or interactions.

And Blago taints JB, because they did have significant conversations and interactions.

BIllionaires in mansions without toilets shouldn’t throw stones.

  18. - Oswego Willy - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:41 pm:

    ===And Blago taints JB===

Possibly, but not nearly as much as the sitting President of the United States that lost Illinois and that incumbent governor polling at 63% disapproval

  19. - The All Knowing Oz - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:49 pm:

Anti-Trump rhetoric, tax the rich and more nanny state social programs. Wow what a campaign. So far there isn’t any candidate from either side that is worth supporting for Governor.

  20. - Amalia - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 5:53 pm:

wow, what a hard call to make. bravo JB, master of the obvious.

  21. - Fax Machine - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:00 pm:

Rauner is lucky there’s no Senate election in 2018 - if there was that would really draw the anti Trump turnout.

  22. - Seats - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:00 pm:

Its kind of strange to not mention Bruce once directly but when you have the money for plenty more commercials its a nice msg to bring in the strong Trump haters.

  23. - Union Dues - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:03 pm:

Has politics really degenerated this far? Is no one above school yard insults anymore? Sad times.

  24. - Lucky Pierre - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:12 pm:

JB’s comments condemning President Trump’s comments that there is blame on both sides is a tacit endorsement of the violence on citizens and property perpetrated by ANTIFA in Charlottesville and across the country.

Does he really think ANTIFA is blameless even through they were reported by a Washington Post reporter as swinging sticks, punching and spraying chemicals. The police did not move to break up the fights.

There were also reports of ANTIFA attacking with sticks, bricks, mace, pepper spray, and foul liquids,

  25. - Wensicia - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:17 pm:

==Has politics really degenerated this far?==

Um, yeah. Our current president has set the tone and substance.
Taking the high road isn’t effective or respected anymore.

  26. - Union Dues - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:22 pm:

So its all because of the current president? His virtues or lack thereof aside, I am not buying that argument.

  27. - Lulu - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:37 pm:

The thought of two billionaires spending on non stop ads pointing out each others character flaws while pandering to their base is depressing. Let the games begin.

  28. - Mr B. - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 6:55 pm:

Nice, but Trump isn’t running for Governor. Not a clear line to paint Rauner as a racist or supporter of Trump.

  29. - BigDoggie - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 7:27 pm:

Dang. If he’d have thrown in sexist and homophobic I coulda checked two more boxes on my Overused Lib Talking Points bingo card.

  30. - @MisterJayEm - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 7:28 pm:

“So its all because of the current president?”

JB Pritzker is calling the current president a racist and a xenophobe because the current president is a racist and a xenophobe.

    – MrJM

  31. - wordslinger - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 7:38 pm:

–Has politics really degenerated this far? Is no one above school yard insults anymore? Sad times.–

Once you get over your fainting spell, check out those Adams/Jefferson campaigns in 1796 and 1800. Maybe you’ll feel better.

  32. - Not me - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 7:45 pm:

It’s a good message for the Democrats. Not to mention those are probably some of the lesser things that the Dems could say about Trump.
Sure Pritzker isn’t running against trump. But that’s like saying Rauner isn’t running against Madigan. But he is.

  33. - City Zen - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 7:55 pm:

    ==Where was J. B. Pritzker during the 2016 campaign?==

He was attempting to LIFT Illinois with his media mogul and hedge fund buds.

  34. - justacitizen - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 8:05 pm:

Word, thanks for the definition of the ‘X’ word. New word for the ABC book instead of xylophone.

  35. - Pundent - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 8:35 pm:

There’s an identity crisis in the Republican Party at the federal and state level. In the same way that members of the house and senate either identify with or distance themselves from Trump state reps are now in the same position as Rauner. Ignoring this reality would be foolish. If Rauner runs away from Trump he alienated those voters. If he embraces Trump he turns off everyone else. All Republicans will be confronted with this reality.

  36. - Lester Holt’s Mustache - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 8:56 pm:

===So Pritzker is supportive of the violence that has been committed by people dressed in black, faces covered, carrying and using their pipes?===

I notice this kind of statement from a lot of conservatives. You say this like the Nazis arent carrying and using weapons at these clashes. What are they, just some peaceful unarmed fellows, dressed appropriately but unfortunately voicing offensive opinions?

We’re talking about two violent, armed groups of young and middle-aged men (and some women). If we all absolutely have to support one sides actions but not the other, I choose the side that is not chanting about putting Jewish people into ovens. And I hope Pritzker would too.

  37. - JS Mill - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 10:21 pm:

    =Overused Lib Talking Points=

Lol, just priceless. I think you stumbled upon the wrong blog, InfoWars is a bit down the dial.

    “Lib” good, funny, stuff.

    Good nickname too. /s

  38. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 10:36 pm:

==Where was J. B. Pritzker during the 2016 campaign? Was he knocking on doors in any of the states that border Illinois (all five of which went for Trump) or working at a telephone bank?==

Yes. He made a couple trips to Iowa to canvass for HRC. But since he wasn’t yet a candidate, he kinda just grabbed his turf and walked it without anyone making a fuss over him.

  39. - Arsenal - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 10:38 pm:

==Perhaps what Pritzker is doing hasn’t been enough to break away from the field yet?==

Maybe, but this isn’t much of a shift, Pritzker has kept up a line of attack on Trump from the start.

  40. - Glengarry - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 11:49 pm:

I don’t think JB needs to break from the Dem field. The nomination is his for the taking. The party apparatus is behind him.

  41. - Hey, Porter - Tuesday, Oct 3, 17 @ 11:52 pm:

Trying to win a democratic primary in a blue state. Will be interesting if Pritzker wins and uses this rhetoric in the general debates.

  42. - milkman - Wednesday, Oct 4, 17 @ 1:26 am:

Same stuff the Liberals say to anyone who disagrees with them

  43. - Glengarry - Wednesday, Oct 4, 17 @ 2:35 am:

Milkman, still drinking the Oberweiss milk?

  44. - Retired Educator - Wednesday, Oct 4, 17 @ 5:15 am:

Who is this guy running against? Am I to understand there is not enough problematic issues with Governor Rauner? Pritzer needs to focus on his own opponent, and forget about the President. Spend your money on the local attack, and let Washington take care of Washington.

  45. - cdog - Wednesday, Oct 4, 17 @ 6:56 am:

The premise of this ad is easily disproven.

So is Trump running for governor of Illinois or did I miss something?
