*** UPDATED x1 *** Republican Rauner ad uses Democrat Bustos tagline
Thursday, Oct 5, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller * From the twitters…
The veto is self-explanatory. We discussed the “nothing short of a miracle” quote from the governor’s new TV ad yesterday. It was actually used to compliment Sen. Andy Manar for his work on the education funding bill. * The “Illinois is worth fighting for” slogan in Rauner’s new TV ad was used by US Rep. Cheri Bustos during her 2016 campaign from beginning…
To end…
…Adding… Bustos also used the slogan in 2014. *** UPDATE *** The response…

And I used that in a school board campaign. Big deal.
- DownstateKid - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:06 pm:
RIch, why you continue to give space to this Twitter account is perplexing.
2,600 followers. Very little social response on their platforms. Lack of policy insights and zero name recognition statewide.
Is there any other go-to Left-leaning group you could embed into the posts?
Appreciate the balance you provide, but this group is a bit too big for its britches.
- DuPage Bard - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:08 pm:
Now that’s funny. So is this the new Rauner crew or the old Rauner crew or Rauner 2.5?
- NIU Grad - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:09 pm:
Yea, this seems like a pretty boiler-plate slogan…I would be highly surprised if whoever wrote that even knew that Bustos used it.
- Chris Widger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:09 pm:
IL Working Together stole its Twitter handle and name, “Working Together,” from the SDP–Liberal Alliance’s campaign slogan in the UK’s 1983 general election. When will they apologize?
- City Zen - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:09 pm:
I thought Blagojevich was the one-stop shop for campaign messaging?
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:11 pm:
Raunerites uses tag lines and praise from Democrats to fool Republicans?
Sounds sbout right… Exactly right.
- JS Mill - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:12 pm:
Hold on a sec….Are you telling me that Rauner is coopting the messaging of Illinois Democrats? For most of the ast 2.5 years their shop hasn’t exactly been winning. Now he is taking their message? Talk about self destruct.
Their shop used to be good.
Yikes.
- Ghost - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:15 pm:
I guess they rejected…. I have a lot of money I don’t want to pay taxes on…. or let them eat cake…. as slogans.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:20 pm:
Future Rauner tweets:
The Guvs Office — Home of the Whopper
Term-limits — I’m Lovin’ It
BTIA(TM) — They Think Different
Vote GOP — Just Do It
Mr. Madigan, Tear Down This Wall
- ughhh - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:22 pm:
its such a generic slogan… theres nothing here…
- Honeybear - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:25 pm:
Great Job RPS™
Rauner Perfidy Shop™
- Chris Widger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:42 pm:
Pritzker and Biss both have the exact phrase “Now more than ever we have to stand up and fight” on their websites. When will they be held accountable for this egregious copying?
- Linus - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:49 pm:
The Governor first heard “it’s a miracle” and “worth fighting for” directly from his grandfather. In a heavy Swedish accent. So it’s fair game. Everybody lay off!
- Chris Widger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:49 pm:
Earlier this year, Pritzker called upon Illinoisans to “think big.” Can’t he write his own ideas without quoting Arizona Governor Doug Ducey’s 2015 speech to his state’s legislature?
- IllinoisBoi - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:55 pm:
Here’s a more accurate slogan for Rauner: “Illinois: I need to destroy it to save it.”
- Louis G. Atsaves - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 1:56 pm:
Scott Reeder of the Illinois News Network, a project of the Illinois Policy Institute, used it in articles published 10/27/14, and 5/1/13, according to a quick Google search of the expression.
I Googled, “Illinois Is Worth Fighting For.”
I’m sure that expression was used prior to 5/1/13, but who copied what from who when again?
The tragedy here is how seriously everyone takes this nonsense.
- igotgotgotgotnotime - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:00 pm:
It’s nothing short of a miracle, Louis.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:01 pm:
Louis, there’s a “tragedy here?”
Thin-skinned Raunerbots whining ain’t a “tragedy.” Google the definition.
- Try-4-Truth - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:03 pm:
=== For most of the ast 2.5 years their shop hasn’t exactly been winning.===
I would argue the exact opposite. Democrats have won EVERYTHING. Budget with D priorities (check). Tax increase (check). Abortion bill (check). LGBT bill (check). If an AFSCME bill is run and it passes, it will be a complete sweep. And…. The Gov. is upside down on his numbers with R’s attacking him daily now.
The mistake here is looking at the tiny little battles that the Gov. was “winning”. While that was happening, he was losing ground every day.
Dems. have played this Gov. perfectly, in my humble opinion.
- Louis G. Atsaves - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:08 pm:
@wordslinger, your point? Democrats claiming the expression was first coined by Bustos and “stolen” by Rauner?
Tragic.
- Albany Park Patriot - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:08 pm:
He doesn’t have much of an environmental record. But apparently he supports recycling.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:12 pm:
- Louis G Atsaves -
Welp, I guess after signing HB40, Dems are “concerned” Rauner might just morph to “Full Dem”…
- King Louis XVI - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:13 pm:
–its such a generic slogan…–
Correct.
And with $75 million (and more) you would think that Rauner’s well-compensated consultants could give the guy something original rather cribbing someone else’s work.
–theres nothing here…–
Said with zero hint of irony.
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:22 pm:
– wordslinger, your point?–
Thin-skinned Raunerbots whining ain’t a “tragedy.”
There, Louis, I wrote my point twice, just for you, word-for-word. Don’t think I can simplify it.
If you still need help, maybe your local c.c. has some remedial courses.
- Louis G. Atsaves - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:30 pm:
@wordslinger, keep repeating yourself. An old tried and true Oswego Willy tactic. My thin-skinned fan club in these parts quickly responded, but the fact that was debunked remains debunked.
The only whining I see here are the responses that pretend otherwise.
Tragic that.
- Oswego Willy - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:34 pm:
===true … tactic===
Look at me, I got “tactics”
Another tactic might be the signing of HB40, to really dovetail off a Dem theme?
- Lester Holt’s Mustache - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:52 pm:
Wow, and here I thought liberals were supposed to be the sensitive, thin-skinned ones. “This twitter account doesn’t have enough followers to be taken seriously!” and “But who is the REAL slogan thief here?” Good grief, feel free to head on over to the IPI Facebook page or Illinois Review if it bothers you so much.
- Precinct Captain - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:52 pm:
Did Citizens for Rauner do a buyout of Bustos?
- walker - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 2:57 pm:
Found an old campaign badge with the tag line: “Be Proud of Your Government Again.”
Why does that feel so unattainable now?
- wordslinger - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 3:57 pm:
–@wordslinger, keep repeating yourself.–
Louis, you specifically asked me what my point was, which required me to repeat it, since you apparently didn’t pick it up the first time.
Do you dazzle like this in the court room?
- JS Mill - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 4:26 pm:
=Dems. have played this Gov. perfectly, in my humble opinion.=
Sir, I concede to your superior insight.
Well played.
- Arthur Andersen - Thursday, Oct 5, 17 @ 5:28 pm:
Coming soon, no doubt:
“Rauner’s the One(exclamation point)”

I really wish people such as 1.4% would stop fighting “for” Illinois. There have been too much collateral damage from all the fighting “for” Illinois.
