Rate Rauner’s new digital ad attacking Pritzker on taxes

Wednesday, Dec 6, 2017 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

Today, Citizens for Rauner released a new digital ad highlighting J.B. Pritzker’s shady tax history.

On Tuesday, Governor Rauner pointed out some of the questions surrounding Pritzker’s reported income. Pritzker’s disclosure of just $15 million in income despite his $3.4 billion in assets suggests that Pritzker is either the “worst investor in the world” or “hiding from taxes.”

This coming after just last week, Pritzker made it clear he believes “Illinois may need another tax hike to balance the books.” JB Pritzker’s plan is to raise your taxes, but is he even paying his fair share?

With the Pritzker family’s history of stashing money abroad, the people of Illinois deserve answers.

Rauner lives in a weird bubble where “incompetent investor” is a sick burn that all regular people can relate to.

  3. - Big Joe - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:28 pm:

Watched it right after the JB video. Not even close. Rauner ad gets a D-. The music and narration were just too made up for me. JBs was a fun thing to watch and learn about the guy.

  4. - Christopher - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:29 pm:

Oh, it’s got the investigative-toned announced, dramatic music, and ticking-time-bomb content like similar ads. But it has no effect on my vote. Rauner should be ashamed of his performance.

  5. - Blue dog dem - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:30 pm:

Has Jeanne Ives released her full tax returns yet?

  6. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:31 pm:

I thought oligarchs like Rauner believe only little people pay taxes.

  7. - A guy - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:31 pm:

These guys know how to create ads. It’s a penetrating pass. The imagery, even without the sound, are punches to the gut. It’s another solid effort.

  8. - Reality Check - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:32 pm:

It’s effective. Many other campaigns could learn the basics of digital advertising from this. B

  9. - Buford - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:36 pm:

Couldn’t help but chuckle with the
“BILLIONAIRE. MADIGAN. MANSIONS.” is it possible for Rauner to not have Madigan in every single ad?

  10. - Retired Educator - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:41 pm:

Rauner should be worrying about the Primary. There will be time enough to run against the Democratic challenger. With all the nonsense lately his win even in the Primary is not guaranteed. His new BTIA, must have their digits on the pulse of this election process. Or maybe they are just fooling themselves, and wasting time, and money.

Not my favorite ad by far, but serves to keeps the JB taxation issues narrative alive and in the public eye. Grade B-

    I only pushed once. lol

  14. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:43 pm:

JB picking his nose. Artless, lowdown, revolting. Billionaires hire others to pick their nose.

  15. - Romeo - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:48 pm:

“Want to raise your income tax again”

Well, when you have $250+ billion in UNFUNDED liabilities, something’s gotta give.

  16. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 1:52 pm:

Arty, sure, but it also raises the question for the voter, “What about Rauner?”. Where’s his money continuing to come from and where does it “vacation”? Didn’t Rauner play footsie with property taxes? Isn’t there a difference between trust funds and venture capitalist funds?

At some point rabbit season becomes duck season.

    –It’s a penetrating pass.–

If you’re into that sort of thing….

No ripped-out toilets? How is that possible? Toilets are the USP, the memorable hook.

You throw in the fattest JB pictures possible and even have him going for a pick and you don’t include toilets?

    Professional malpractice.

By the way, leading with “incompetent investor” might be a nasty burn for the North Shore Country Club crowd, but you’re mass communicatin’ here.

Of course, Rauner’s record leaves a wee bit of an opening to respond in kind to spending big, ducking questions, off-shore cash, mansions, dodging property taxes (multiple homestead exemptions claimed) and, yes, even hypocrisy that we can’t afford.

If it ends up JB vs. Rauner, I think it’s a wash on the rich-dude problems.

    Except on the toilets.

JB doesn’t stand a chance in the Republican primary.

  20. - Century Club - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 2:00 pm:

    B

Rauner’s game is to depress November turnout in Chicago through overwhelming negativity. This ad is too breathless, but after nine months of this, lots of people are going to want to stay home.

“Rauner lives in a weird bubble where “incompetent investor” is a sick burn that all regular people can relate to.”

    This x 1,000,000.

  22. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 2:10 pm:

Didn’t I read yesterday that JB hasn’t set up any offshore trusts and that all income from those he inherited go to charity? Oh, wait. Sorry to trouble Rauner with facts. And yes, “incompetent investor” is downright silly.

  23. - @MisterJayEm - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 2:23 pm:

    Incompetent Investor > Incompetent Governor

    Try again, Bruce.

  24. - Precinct Captain - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 2:35 pm:

This is good, but is it the message Rauner really wants? All these same things exist for him.

  25. - Henry Francis - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 3:05 pm:

    “Ducking Questions”?

Really? The Guv wants to go there?

I imagine there is over an hour of footage that could be put together showing the Guv ducking questions. Take his greatest hits and get it down to 60 seconds and you would have some real entertainment.

  26. - Rich Miller - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 3:14 pm:

===I imagine there is over an hour of footage that could be put together showing the Guv ducking questions===

From this month. And it’s only the 6th. lol

He should have ducked more. He’s so bad off-script.

  28. - Anon221 - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 3:26 pm:

Maybe Rauner never played that good old childhood game, but if you keep “ducking” you eventually get “goosed” ;)

  29. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 3:36 pm:

“Eventually gets ‘goosed’. Yes, we’ve seen that look several times - some have called it ‘deer in the headlights’ look. ‘Goosed’ is a better description.

===You throw in the fattest JB pictures possible and even have him going for a pick and you don’t include toilets?===

Wait for it Sling…no doubt it’s coming. Don’t want to short shrift the nose pick, do you?

  31. - don the legend - Wednesday, Dec 6, 17 @ 4:32 pm:

    “It’s not a pick, it’s not a pick. It’s a scratch”.
