GOP legislators demand Rauner stop “shameful distortions and fabrications of Jeanne Ives’ record”

Wednesday, Feb 21, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Press release…

In a joint statement release today, Republican state legislators called on Governor Rauner to end his “shameful distortions and fabrications of Jeanne Ives’ record.” They further called on Republican voters to look beyond Rauner’s fraudulent ads, and compare Ives’ record to Rauner’s record.

The letter is signed by State Representatives Tom Morrison, John Cabello, Margo McDermed, Allen Skillicorn, and David McSweeney, and State Senators Tim Bivins and Kyle McCarter.

* The letter…

We call on Bruce Rauner to stop his shameful distortions and fabrications of Jeanne Ives’ record. He can’t defend his own policies, so he’s using deep campaign coffers to flood airwaves and mailboxes with bogus attacks.

Mike Madigan’s favorite candidate? It’s Bruce Rauner who enacted key elements of a progressive social agenda, including taxpayer funding of elective abortions.

It’s Bruce Rauner who signaled he’d accept an income tax increase, paired with reforms that never materialized. And it’s Bruce Rauner who just proposed a new budget that relies on those taxes to balance spending, rather than proposing cuts.

Illinoisans are overtaxed, which is why Rep. Ives voted against the 32% income tax increase. Ives argues that property taxes shouldn’t just be frozen at their already high levels but actually rolled back to provide taxpayer relief.

Who is funding and supporting Jeanne Ives’ campaign for governor? It’s thousands of pro-taxpayer, pro-family Illinois residents who have had enough of Bruce Rauner and his capitulation to liberal Democratic lawmakers.

In conclusion, we call on Republican voters to look beyond Bruce Rauner’s fraudulent ads and instead to examine the real Jeanne Ives compared to the real Bruce Rauner. They should decide, as we have, who is the better choice to lead our party and our state. The choice is clear: Jeanne Ives.

If we want to talk about distortions, let’s first talk about Ives’ “plan” to end “Rauner’s 32% tax hike.”

The Irrelevant caucus. There’s a group of legislators that if you add up all their legislative accomplishments it would equal zero..

  4. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:07 pm:

    Letters are not Ads.

Bruce will give this letter it’s due and it’s respect… and will continue to do EXACTLY what he’s doing now.

Do any of these signers realize Rauner isn’t interested in honesty in campaigning? Look to 2014 and how Rauner has governed.

I’m actually embarrassed for these guys.

It’s a laughable farce of a letter, and comical to think this rates anything but some first-rate mocking.

Maybe these signers all should sit out a few plays…

  5. - 47th Ward - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:08 pm:

Lol, Bruce Rauner is learning the difference between a cactus and a caucus a little more every day.

Did anyone ever tell these folks politics ain’t beanbag?

  7. - Not the real Joe Maddon - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:11 pm:

The bottom line that these misinformed zealots don’t realize is,Jeanne Ives is unelectable State wide. A individual I spoke with today, who can’t stand Rauner agreed that Ives might just be as big of a embarrassment as Alan Keyes was. These very same elected officials are bought and paid for by the King of lies and distortions Dan Proft.

  8. - Real - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:13 pm:

But all these GOP legialatures including Ives have only enabled Rauner the past 3 years. You reap what you sow.

  9. - Heh - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:14 pm:

I was looking for any new names among the “Ives Caucus”. None.

  10. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:16 pm:

If McSweeney (whom I don’t always agree with, but respect him and he tries and is good about how he goes about his business) is so concerned…

… McSweeney should give Ives $5 million to get her on TV and staying up through Election Day and fight these Rauner words…

    That’s… $5 million… over $1 million a week, statewide…

Then that letter will have some teeth.

-Neither is Rauner electable. He is 100 times worse than Ives is.

Politically tone deaf. They don’t know their own state (their districts, maybe), and that Ives is too bigoted and homophobic to win a general election and advance the conservative causes they claim to care so much about. Intuition, empathy, and political instinct matter, and they sure are lacking when it comes to understanding Illinois.

LOL, that speaks to Rauner is well.

Otherwise Rauner would’ve ran on what he actually believed…

So when are they going to stop distorting the Trust Act?

  16. - Baloneymous - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:24 pm:

remember when Brucey would say lots of Dems are telling him behind close doors they agree with him?

Huh. Have they met Rauner? Did they think he was going to be different than the guy they backed to the hilt for most of three years?

  20. - Morty - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:41 pm:

I didn’t realize Jeanne had a legislative record to distort.

    i recall her ranting.

    A lot.

But did she ever…IDK.. pass a bill?

    Are talking hypotheticals here?

Real- Rauner has at least a chance because of his money and his social views are more in line with Illinois voters, not saying a great chance but still a chance. As for Ives, she is truly unelectable state wide. The womans views on same sex marriage, gay adoptions, and gay conversion therapy make her a laughing stock not a governor.
That hideous sick commercial might be the worse piece of garbage ever on the air waves for a campaign. Imagine if any of her children have friends who are dealing with identity issues and thinking of coming out. Not a good example of a leader in my book.

  24. - Niklas - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 5:48 pm:

Who cares, Anyone but Rauner right now. We all know she won’t win a statewide election, but we should all be for her knocking Rauner out of the generals.

  25. - Grandson of Man - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 6:53 pm:

“It’s thousands of pro-taxpayer, pro-family Illinois residents who have had enough of Bruce Rauner and his capitulation to liberal Democratic lawmakers.”

This should be one of the pillars of Ives’ campaign–Rauner caving on taxes and the veto override.

  26. - walker - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 6:54 pm:

Got a Rauner mailer that attacked Ives for not voting for the Property Tax Freeze bill, that Rauner called a “sham” and pulled off Republican votes. Heard from other Republican legislators angry about that one.

  27. - Whatever - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 6:59 pm:

I’ve also seen the ad where the governor browbeats Ives for taking “thousands” of “shady union money,” proving she’s being bankrolled by Madigan. Totally ignoring the millions she’s receiving from former supporters of the governor. It was funny the first 99 times.

  28. - cannon649 - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 7:55 pm:

    Bruce - you are gone

    Leave gracefully

  29. - Morty - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 8:04 pm:

No, really. Ives’ has a legislative record?

  30. - Louis G Atsaves - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 8:15 pm:

Circular firing squad. Circular logic. The only thing left: Stunned looks when the party they have been busy trying to purify loses this November.

And then they blame everyone else but themselves.

===Circular firing squad. Circular logic. The only thing left: Stunned looks when the party they have been busy trying to purify loses this November.===

    Raunerites are not Republicans.

They support racking up massive debt by holding a state hostage and destroying social services, unless labor, include trade labor is destroyed.

At the same time promoting an uber-left, costal limousine liberal social agenda a Democratic Governor from California would only dream about signing.

They want Raunerism gone, the sooner the better. Who would blame them. Rauner polls 26% approval. Rauner is destroying the ILGOP, the brand he, and Diana Rauner bought.

===And then they blame everyone else but themselves.===

They’ll be congratulated, like the Perfect 10 and the Brave 15, actually, if Rauner is defeated.

  32. - Just Me - Wednesday, Feb 21, 18 @ 8:40 pm:

Does anyone here not believe that the Democrats would love for Ives to win?

  34. - Just Visiting - Thursday, Feb 22, 18 @ 7:13 am:

OW said =Raunerites are not Republicans=

Who made you the litmus test of who is and isn’t a Republican? And shouldn’t Republicans themselves decide that? You stick to cuddling up to unions and Madigan mmmkay?

  35. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Feb 22, 18 @ 7:26 am:

Oh - Just Visiting -, LOL

‘Nember when you told me to learn to take a joke? I did t realize you were the joke.

Diana Rauner’s uber-left, costal, limousine liberal, Democratic social agenda, that isn’t a Republican social platform, even 80% of it.

What Republican believes in running massive debts… by purposely not paying bills or honoring contracts? Then doing it… for the sole purpose of destroying labor, including trades?

Your continued going after me reminds me to take your advice and treat you as the joke you are(?)

  36. - Rabid - Thursday, Feb 22, 18 @ 7:28 am:

if you believe in the 44 point turnaround agenda you just might be a Rauneritis candidate

  37. - Mason born - Thursday, Feb 22, 18 @ 7:31 am:

Not a huge Ives fan but she does give Republican primary voters a chance to vote against Rauner. That, IMHO, is a good thing.

  38. - low level - Thursday, Feb 22, 18 @ 8:05 am:

Now we wait to see how DeGroot at the ILGOP spins this. Immoral also? Or somehow ties it to “the one who shall ALWAYS be mentioned”. Lol

  39. - Paying Attention - Friday, Feb 23, 18 @ 8:49 am:

Interesting how these are the same tactics that got these legislators elected in the first place. It was all fine and good when they were the ones creating the fabrications and misleading information on Rauner’s money. Laughable.
