Mike Madigan is inside the governor’s head pushing the remaining hairs out strand-by-strand.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:24 pm:

    The costume was on point.

    That’s a plus.

With Madigan, Rauner polling 20+ points underwater, and is the worst Republican governor in America.

Rauner is losing to Pritzker, who’s underwater himself, and with Madigan…

Who is Rauner’s constituency? Ives is burning down conservatives for Rauner, Rauner won’t even say Trump…

  4. - Flugel - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:27 pm:

Rauner is giving Democrats a reason to keep Madigan around and in charge.

    I get the anti-Madigan strategy.

I understand the need for repetition.

It can all be done without coming off like a babblin’ paranoid loon.

  9. - StrugglinDem - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:33 pm:

I don’t want to sound like Trump but all I can say is……sad.

  11. - Just The Facts - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:34 pm:

Failed Leadership. He thought he had a “mandate” and chose not to work with Madigan for solutions. He took a one car accident and made it a multi-car pile up.

I’m not sure the Cowboy Bruce ™ costume works that well in a community that is nearly two-third minorities like Hanover Park.

  13. - Lt Guv - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:35 pm:

“Aye, Starbuck; aye, my hearties all round; it was Madigan that dismasted me; Madigan that brought me to this dead stump I stand on now. Aye, aye,” he shouted with a terrific, loud, animal sob, like that of a heart-stricken moose; “Aye, aye! it was that accursed 13th Ward Irishman that razeed me; made a poor pegging lubber of me for ever and a day!” Then tossing both arms, with measureless imprecations he shouted out: “Aye, aye! and I’ll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition’s flames before I give him up. And this is what ye have shipped for, men! to chase that 13th Ward Irishman on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he spouts black blood and rolls fin out. What say ye, men, will ye splice hands on it, now? I think ye do look brave.”

  14. - dbk - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:38 pm:

Tomorrow can’t come soon enough; the mental health of a rather large state hangs in the balance.

How many people do we think could, if asked, name the district MJM represents?

I bet some voters are expecting to see his name on the ballot tomorrow. Uh-oh…

  15. - Retired Educator - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:39 pm:

He seems a little distracted by Madigan./s Just rambling, and telling people what to believe is not a press conference. Is anyone, including the reporters taking any of this seriously? I have heard these talking points for 3 plus years They were nonsense at the beginning, and they are nonsense now. Bye bye, Bruce perhaps not in this primary, but certainly by November. Good riddance, to bad rubbish.

  16. - Lucky Pierre - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:40 pm:

How many people can name the party Mike Madigan is in charge of?

  17. - Gooner - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:41 pm:

Based on Rauner’s complaints, it sure sounds like Madigan has been kicking Rauner around for a while.

That seems to be a pretty good reason to support Ives. If Rauner can’t stop the evil Madigan, maybe Ives can do it.

As Wordslinger mentioned, staying on point is one thing. Not babbling while doing so is another. Beyond that though, act like you have some strength and some courage.

Rauner has been acting like a loser. It is tough to vote for someone who is running a campaign that can be summarized as “Madigan Has Kicked Me Around for Four Years, and Yes Sir, I Would Like Another.”

  18. - TominChicago - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:45 pm:

===I’m not sure the Cowboy Bruce ™ costume works that well in a community that is nearly two-third minorities like Hanover Park.===

It’s about the Tee-Vee audience. Rauner isn’t sympathetic to anyone but Raunerites.

As a costume, it’s on point.

    Appropriate? Well… lol

  20. - anon2 - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:47 pm:

If voters were to ratifiy a term limits referendum on the ballot in 2020, Madigan would not be term-limited until 2030, eight years after Rauner has pledged to leave office.

  21. - Buford - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:51 pm:

Can the Governor confirm if ‘Madigan madigan Madigan madigan madigan madigan Madigan madigan’ a grammatically correct sentence?

  22. - illini - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:54 pm:

Rauner just finished a 10 minute soft interview on KMOX and only mentioned Madigan 18 times ( I counted ).

Other than the expected disinformation and deflection of his record, lack of accomplishments and his dubious spin on controversial actions under his watch I did learn one thing that surprised me — he and Madigan have been golf buddies. Hard to imagine.

  24. - Truthteller - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 2:58 pm:

Watchimg the video tells us all we need to know about Rauner’s temperament and his unfitness for small d democratic governance.
He’ll be in his element and much happier when the voters return him to the hedge fund world from which he came.

Brucebot, the talking points robot, is at it again. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a soulless politician. How does anyone have any human connection with this guy?

  27. - SSL - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:08 pm:

Madigan golfs? Well then he can’t be all bad. Does he lie about his handicap?

  28. - Concerned Dem - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:10 pm:

The title of the album Basket Case is featured on does perfectly sum up Rauner’s tenure as Governor.

  29. - Arsenal - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:10 pm:

When the Rauners move to Italy, does Madigan get to come, too, or will he finally stop living rent-ree in Bruce’s head?

  30. - Anon - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:12 pm:

Can we start a Rauner campaign metric of Madigan mentions per dollar spent

  31. - Nick Name - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:14 pm:

waiting for Rauner to take the “kennedy kennedy kennedy” song (heard in the nifty video Chris Kennedy has going around riffing off his uncle’s 1960 campaign ad) and turn it into Madigan Madigan Madigan’s not for you.

  35. - 47th Ward - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:16 pm:

Tutti i nostri problemi sono colpa di Madigan.

  36. - KL - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:16 pm:

Madigan has as many homes in Rauner’s Head as Rauner has in real life.

  37. - Nick Name - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:17 pm:

Remember when people thought Ives entering the race would have the effect of making Gov. Gaslight look sane by comparison? Good times.

  38. - Montrose - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:17 pm:

I am pretty sure there is a room in one or more of Rauner’s houses that has a Beautiful Mind feel where he can be found mumbling “Madigan” over and over at 3:00 a.m.

Chief Inspector Dreyfus, who is eventually driven insane by Inspector Clouseau.

Rauner has to be related to Chief Inspector Dreyfus. Maybe on the Swedish side.

  40. - Telly - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:29 pm:

The mad laughter combined with repeated “Madigan” mentions reminds me of Chief Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies. Soon, he’ll start twitching uncontrollably. “Clouseau!”

Madigan needs to go. Sad things is all know it but people are too afraid to see him go. The gravy train dries up.

I like Rauner because he despises Madigan.

  43. - Honeybadger - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:33 pm:

Gawd, I am praying Jeannie Ives wins tomorrow, so we can stop hearing about Madigan, Madigan, Madigan. Hopefully, Speaker Madigan will do what is right for the Democratic Party and retire, so it will take away the Raunerites only mantra.

    1) I propose “When the Rauners move to Italy . . . as a future regular feature for Cap Fax. If ownership agrees

    2) My first entry: “When the Rauners move to Italy, John Kass should hire a Madigan impersonator to make deliveries to their house, once or twice per day. Every day.”

That’s what the French said about the German Army at Dunkirk.

  50. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:47 pm:

Bruce needs Madigan. It’s the only excuse he has for not doing his job.

  51. - Blago's Hare - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:52 pm:

Unfortunately, I don’t think he is driving himself crazy with a Madigan obsession. Everything this man does is calculated and planned. In his mind, he is staying on message and hypnotizing voters to vote against Madigan and anyone he can tie to him. (Ives, Pritzger, individual Dems across the state)

  52. - ZC - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:54 pm:

Rauner’s good at message discipline. Unusually good in 2014 for a first-time candidate and a rich self-funder.

And this is good for campaign season 2018. Hey, you play the cards you have.

The problem is -he never stopped campaigning-, from 2015-2017. The man never actually governed. For that alone, he deserves to be fired.

  53. - Blago's Hare - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:56 pm:

Rauner cares about nothing but himself and his agenda. He just uses Madigan because he is unpopular statewide due to years of Chicago bashing and Madigan being in charge of the House for so long.

  54. - Blago's Hare - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 3:59 pm:

—The problem is -he never stopped campaigning-, from 2015-2017. The man never actually governed. For that alone, he deserves to be fired —
    Exactly

  55. - XDNR - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

Madigan’s got under Rauner’s hair and took 20 lbs. of flesh.

  56. - Leigh John-Ella - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:01 pm:

If the gov’s going to move to Italy and wander the streets muttering “Madigan” he’d better be careful with his pronunciation.

  58. - Huh? - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:11 pm:

No matter who wins tomorrow and in November, we have to put up with 1.4% until next January. His constant whining about Madigan won’t end until then.

  59. - Leigh John-Ella - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:16 pm:

He doesn’t appear to have lost hair.
    Time for a politifact check.
Go ahead and have him weigh-in too.

  60. - Grandson of Man - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:17 pm:

Democrats and the DPI are to blame for this, too. Nonexistent messaging. Get some Democrats to change the narrative and say that Madigan or not, Rauner’s anti-union agenda will never pass the GA. Take Madigan out of Rauner’s destructive unwillingness to compromise and negotiate in good faith. Leave Rauner with nothing other than his big steaming pile of failure.

  61. - I Miss Bentohs - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:22 pm:

I’m so not going to vote for Madigan tomorrow.

Wait? What? I can neither vote for nor against Madigan and never have been able to do that. Huh. I wonder why I even care about Madigan then?

  62. - G'Kar - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:25 pm:

    - Leigh John-Ella - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:01 pm:

Actually, when the Rauners move to Italy the locals might be calling them “the m-digans”

  64. - a drop in - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:33 pm:

Wonder what Rauner thought about Turner Classic Movies programming last night?

7 pm. Madigan (1968) NYC police detective Madigan has 72 hours to find the mobster who got away with his gun. With Richard Widmark as Madigan.

  65. - Claud Peppers - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 4:47 pm:

He doesn’t have any eyebrows left. This can be attributed to trichotillomania. A repetitive behavior.

Like Lt Guv, I first flashed to the good Captain:
Would you buy a used Pequot from this man?

  67. - Will Caskey - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:09 pm:

If Rauner said “vote for me and I will definitely shut the everloving eff up about Madigan forever” I would actually vote for him

  68. - 37B - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:20 pm:

    Oops. “Pequod”

  69. - Friend of St. Pat's - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:36 pm:

How will Candidate Rauner drop the “g” when he pronounces “Madigan”?

  70. - Mama - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:40 pm:

I’m so sick of Rauner’s campaign ads for the pass 3 years that I am crossing over just so I can vote against him. I cannot take another 4 years of his hateful ads, and lies he tells.

  71. - Lt Guv - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:40 pm:

    Ship or pizza? Actually, neither.

  72. - Mama - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:49 pm:

“he is staying on message and hypnotizing voters to vote against Madigan and anyone he can tie to him”

Rauner is running his ads all over the state ofr IL and other states too. My friends from the Lake of the Ozarks comment on it. The question is, why would Rauner pay millions of dollars to run his hate Madigan ads in places where people can not even vote for Madigan? This makes zero sense to me.

  73. - Rich Miller - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 5:56 pm:

===why would Rauner pay millions of dollars to run his hate Madigan ads in places where people can not even vote for Madigan?===

People can’t vote for Madigan if they live outside the 22nd House District.

But to answer your question, he’s advertising on St. Louis TV.

  74. - Whatever - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 7:01 pm:

Paul @ 3:32 ==Madigan needs to go. Sad things is all know it but people are too afraid to see him go.==

Yeah, I remember you saying that when Madigan stopped Blago’s gross receipts tax despite Emil Jones backing it 110%, and repeating it when he passed the pension “reform”. /s

  75. - 37B - Monday, Mar 19, 18 @ 8:07 pm:

I was thinking of referencing the late, great Burt but decided he shouldn’t be mentioned in the same blog as Rauner.

  76. - cc - Tuesday, Mar 20, 18 @ 1:39 am:

I don’t support anyone running for governor. Ugh to them all. Biss-wants pensions; hey kid we’re old and won’t be around long enough to affect you much longer so Biss off.
And not of fan of Madigan but without him Il would still be without a budget of any kind.
