    Rauner shenanigans.

  11. - Anon - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 9:14 am:

Rauner told SJ-R reporters that he would pay the step increases and didn’t seem to be playing April Fool’s joke. But he mentioned his budget so I think his plan is to say he’ll pay but only if everything in his budget is approved. Then when it isn’t he’ll blame Madigan for us not getting paid.

Rauner’s continuing contempt for people and their intelligence. He wants to pay state workers’ step increases from health insurance cuts he wants to unilaterally impose on them by removing health insurance from collective bargaining.

First the Earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di’s clothes. I couldn’t believe it-

  28. - Steve Rogers - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 9:46 am:

Rauner and the four leaders agreed to sincerely work on a 2019 budget that helps everyone without egos, politics, and talking points. They also agreed to complete their work by the end of May. Oh, sorry, April Fool’s Day was yesterday.

This Politico postmortem on the Lipinski-Newman race:

    https://www.politico.com/story/2018/03/25/lipinski-newman-illinois-chicago-484736

Newman actually claims “Lipinski focused this on the abortion issue. I never did.”

I got at least two dozen mailers that prove otherwise. I give her credit for running a good race, but c’mon…that’s the equivalent of Donald Trump saying “Hillary kept bringing up Benghazi, not me.”

    Tusk got some ink.

  39. - Last Bull Moose - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 11:02 am:

Wordslinger. Sorry for not being explicit.
The problem is how to make the school less vulnerable to attackers while not creating other dangers. Tasers are a way to stop a single assailant while not killing students with errant bullets or ricochets. Frangible bullets won’t ricochet but you can still hit the wrong person.

Anesthetic darts are another option, but they take effect too slowly to work with an active shooter.

  40. - Soothsayer - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 11:06 am:

BC - I received the mailers, as well. Most pro-choice Newman propaganda came from NARAL and Planned Parenthood. Splitting hairs, I know, but maybe that is what was meant…

As long as the lunatic with the AR-15 gives you a sporting chance and lets you get within 15 feet. Might need to work that out ahead of time.

  43. - O.H. - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 11:45 am:

Rich, you may have missed some bad news: Scott Kennedy tweeted that he’s going to be posting less content due to a new job.

That’s tough on those of us who like to crunch voting numbers. I was hoping he’d post a breakdown of Dem primary turnout vs. GOP primary turnout by legislative district. I was able to do it on my own in suburban Cook (BTW, beware Republicans in the Tom Rooney senate nest.) But I need Scott’s help in the multi-county, Tier 1 races.

–BTW canin’ the Gamin’ & Booze Dudes is still abuzz. Some whisperin’ about a trade show in Vegas.–

I imagine a liquor and gaming trade show in Las Vegas might present some temptations for inappropriate behavior on the taxpayer dime.

Where do I sign up for the next one?

  46. - BC - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 11:52 am:

Soothsayer - legit point. I didn’t keep a hard count, but more than a few had “Paid for by Newman for Congress” stamped on them.

I just don’t get why she would take a duck on that issue — it worked really well for her.

  47. - Last Bull Moose - Monday, Apr 2, 18 @ 12:00 pm:

Shooting inside classrooms is done at close quarters. There tasers would be the preferred weapon. If someone were shooting outside then a rifle would be better.

Pick the tool for the task.
