* Tribune…
Rauner said Monday that his campaign had reached out to Ives but was told she didn’t want to talk to him.
“We called her, her office, right after the primary,” Rauner said. “We were told at the time that she did not have an interest in speaking with me or meeting with me at this point. That’s the current status. Hopefully, we’ll be talking soon.”
Ives spokeswoman Kathleen Murphy disputed the governor but showed little indication that she wanted to reconcile.
“Good grief. I would laugh if it wasn’t so sad,” Murphy said. “The governor is a professional liar. Our campaign made no such statement to the Rauner campaign. No such dialogue ever happened. And why would it? Why would Rauner desire to speak with ‘Madigan’s favorite Republican,’ right?”
Murphy went on to say that Rauner had made it clear he wants “Ives and conservatives out of the party” and that Ives was “done with this back-and-forth playground note-passing.”
It certainly doesn’t help that Rauner’s own campaign spokesman claims that Rauner’s campaign manager texted Murphy the day after the election and never heard back.
So, there was no “call.” And nobody in Ives’ campaign said a word directly to the Rauner campaign, as far as I can tell.
He’s suffering one of those awful political deaths by a thousand cuts. And they’re all - all - self-inflicted. Maybe he should think about getting his story straight and then sticking to that script for once.

Or maybe he should think about telling the truth.
- Roadrager - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 4:55 pm:
There’s quite the Who’s Who of Illinois politics listed in the call history of Governor Rauner’s imaginary phone.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:02 pm:
Aw, I’m not worried.
Mr. Peter Breen and his righteous indignation… is “all-in” with Rauner, a Ives’ Spokesperson says of him…
===“The governor is a professional liar. Our campaign made no such statement to the Rauner campaign. No such dialogue ever happened. And why would it? Why would Rauner desire to speak with ‘Madigan’s favorite Republican,’ right?”===
You stick with Bruce Rauner, Mr. Breen.
You should lecture the Ives campaign on how to fold your integrity… when it becomes politically expedient.
That should work.
To the Post,
Rauner’s honesty, integrity, ethics and morals are the 1,000 cuts that could sink Rauner because at some point… your honesty, integrity, ethics, and morals are more important because your word… means nothing.

Illinois will be so much better off when this dude moves to Italy. /ha
Nicely played by K.Murphy, re “Madigan’s favorite.”

Why does Rauner keep doing this when he’s busted every time?
- Rich Miller - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:05 pm:
Wensicia, good question.
- Ron - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:10 pm:
Glad Ives lost. She would have forced me to vote for JB.

“Why does Rauner keep doing this when he’s busted every time?”
Because he is only busted on this site. The other 99.999999999+ assume he told truth. Works very well for him.
- Cubs in '16 - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:14 pm:
I take offense at Murphy calling Rauner a professional liar. There’s nothing professional about it.
- wordslinger - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:15 pm:
–Why does Rauner keep doing this when he’s busted every time?–
I came to the conclusion long ago that he can’t help himself.
He lies on matters large and small.
He lies when he can be easily busted, and invariably is.
Sometimes his lies are simply not believable (hundreds of companies lined up), or even possible (verbatim quotes of a private phone call between Madigan and Cullerton, moments after it allegedly occurred).
I’m sure there’s a clinical term for that. It doesn’t go well as a modifier for “governor.”
How can you do business with a guy like that? You can’t trust him even a little bit, and he’s proven that time and again.
- 47th Ward - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:15 pm:
===Why does Rauner keep doing this when he’s busted every time?===
I think this is how he operated when he was in bidness. He never faced any consequences then, why should he now? Old habits die hard. He says what he thinks sounds like a good answer and then forgets all about it.
Some poor staffer is left cleaning up after him while he’s on to the next thing.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:28 pm:
This “Mr. Breen” believes…
===In the face of overwhelming evidence of Rauner’s inability to competently administer the Illinois government, inability to stand up to Mike Madigan effectively, and inability to keep his word and his commitments, I can no longer support him. And whether or not they are able to agree publicly, I know hundreds of elected Republicans, along with hundreds of thousands of Republican voters, who feel the same way I do.”===
Ives’ Camp, with the alleged “call, no call” believes that Mr. Breen.
Wonder why Mr. Breen flipped? This seems pretty cut and dry.
- Amalia - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:36 pm:
oh, right. because if Rauner loses, Ives will surely win the next go round. sure, right. she’s so in touch with Illinois.
- Retired Educator - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:44 pm:
Interesting come back from the Ives camp. She will call him a liar all the way to November. She is not going to relent. If Rauner doesn’t understand yet, someone should tell him, he made a very bad enemy. She will not let him off the hook, and neither will a large portion of the 48%.
- Editorializing Again - blocked? - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:47 pm:
Professional Liar - with the help of corporate media.
Just today the SJ-R headlned with a non-factual in support of Rauner.
“Gov. Rauner wants full-year state budget;”…. Not factual but favorable headline for Rauner.
“Gov. Rauner says he wants full-year state budget;”… Factual.
Media knows what Rauner says he wants is often the opposite of what his actions achieve, yet they support his lying through their editorializing.
- Ron - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:48 pm:
Amalia, there is precisely 0 chance I would ever vote for a racist, anti gay and anti abortion public official. Glad Ives lost.
- Boat captain - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:50 pm:
I agree with anonymous. This blog calls him out but mainstream media don’t. Ergo-the public just believes him in whatever he says. He has got by with this way too long.

===Ergo-the public just believes him===
I dunno about that. Seen his job approval rating lately?
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:52 pm:
===Other Republicans seems to be settling down a bit, including Rep. Ives. It’s team Proft that hasn’t read the memo.===
Even Mr. Breen…
The rub is… the Tribune and other outlets, possibly Proft’s radio show, are still quoting her, and reporting what they say, and Ives has yet to repudiate her own team.
The narrative of a split GOP is being perpetrated here by a story of Rauner, again, being “less than truthful”.
That’s not on Ives’ Crew.
Rauner can tell the truth any time he wants…
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 5:54 pm:
===Ergo-the public just believes him in whatever he says.==
With respect,
The 48% Ives got says… you might be a bit off.
- Wensicia - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:02 pm:
I agree with 47th Ward. Rauner doesn’t care if his lies are disproved: his cause, like his businesses, is always more important and justifies any and all means, including lying.
- Profteering - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:07 pm:
I’m trying to think of a bigger sore loser than Ives in the history of politics.
Maybe Al Gore. The whole crew is clutching their pearls because they launched a very hire profile campaign and their opponent said things that hurt their feelings? She is too fragile for Illinois politics and the big boys running Pritzker’s campaign would have wreaked havoc on her delicate sensibilities.
- Oswego Willy - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:11 pm:
===Murphy went on to say that Rauner had made it clear he wants “Ives and conservatives out of the party”===
Raunerites made clear long ago too…
You’re with Rauner or with Madigan.
Rauber keeps slicing the party, pretty soon Rauner might only get 52% in a primary and…
…
Raunerism is destroying the Republican Party of Illinois.
Those needing Rauner most can’t see it yet…
- Yellow Dog Democrat - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:18 pm:
If Rauner really wants to unite the party, he should ask Sanguinetti to step aside as his runningmate and enlist Ives.
That seems like the only way to make amends and reassure conservatives that they will have a spot in the leadership of the new administration.
- Ron - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:20 pm:
Republicans like Ives? She is the worst. A trumpkin.
- wordslinger - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 6:27 pm:
–I’m trying to think of a bigger sore loser than Ives in the history of politics.
Maybe Al Gore.–
Bush sued Gore to stop the Florida recount, Gore didn’t sue Bush.
After the Supremes ruled 5-4 in that infamous one-off, Gore presided over the Electoral College certification of Bush’s victory, ruling out of order numerous attempts by Dem House members to challenge the results.
So, not so much a sore loser.
Trump certainly acts like a sore loser. He’s whined about Clinton on twitter every week for more than a year.

Although “Wheaton for Wheaton” swap would be so intriguing for me and about 17 others not me…
… can’t make that switch.
Sanguinetti is already the conservative “give”, she hasn’t wanted to honor Confederate soldiers, she adds value as a Latina, an attorney, a partner to Rauner… tripping up the ticket now would lead to more personal injury to Rauner than he already causes himself.

I agree it would be extremely disloyal of Rauner…but then again loyalty aint exactly his hallmark?
You know whose loyalty ai admire? Chris Robling. That diehard Republican was recently interviewed praising JB Pritzker, whom he went to law school with.
I am old enough to remember when friendship trumped everything else.
On the otherhand, I bet Sanguinetti can make the case that she won the primary for Rauner in Du Page.
Has anyone crunched those numbers yet? Scott Kennedy perhaps?
- VanillaMan - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 8:25 pm:
Rauner needs to just buy that vineyard in Tuscany and get out of the flaming wreckage he created here.
48% of ILGOP voters aren’t voting for him.
- Ron - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 8:33 pm:
Lol, JBs massive tax increases are sure make everything better.
- Hard R - Monday, Apr 9, 18 @ 8:44 pm:
Last guy Rauner ran against who campaigned up front on a tax increase didn’t do to good if memory strikes me right. Ask Quinn how that worked out for him.

Now, when your a grown man? Not so much

The concept of math can often be abstract. In simple terms here’s how it works. You run up a bill and at some point you have to pay it. Maybe it’s a pension bill or maybe it’s a whole bunch of other bills that you just chose to ignore. Math doesn’t care. It doesn’t belong to a political party.

Ives clearly thinks Rauner is toast come next November. No point lashing yourself to a broken mast.
She’s positioning herself as the “true conservative” to lead IL past the failed conservatism of Rauner.

“Republicans like Ives? She is the worst. A trumpkin.”
Indeed. Republicans do like Ives. That’s why I’m a Democrat.
But Jeanne Ives did win DuPage County 52 to 48. And without Rauner’s expensive and deceptive campaign she would have won downstate as well.
Rauner bamboozled his way to a primary victory.
Okay, politics ain’t beanbag, but Ives is definitely “more Republican” than Rauner.
And now, that’s Rauner’s problem.
