Trump accomplishes more in a week than JB has in a life time.

  2. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:11 am:

Great example of a wiff of a beach ball down broadway.

    It’s barely a “C-“… it’s not even a “Gentleman’s C”

    “Why????”

Don’t tell me how a watch is made when telling the time is more effective.

Over 42 seconds of a 60 second ad is setting a plate for a 3 second graphic?

    “Huh?”

This is like a news blurb people ignore… 40-80 seconds… between sports and the water skiing squirrel.

    Not a good swing… its barely a “C-“

Do better, or don’t do these. Tell me the time, don’t tell me how a watch works.

This is NOT giving Rauner no quarter.

    Not a great attempt. Nope.

  3. - VanillaMan - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:20 am:

    What a stinker.
    Horrible.
He will lose if he keeps pandering ads like this going.

  4. - Rail Splitter - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:25 am:

Why all the effort to try to turn Amanda into Max Headroom?

  5. - Anon221 - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:29 am:

Better concept would be to restyle this ad to include the fact that the separated children are being sent and housed in Illinois far from where their parents are being held. Include the snippets of no thought, but also of not being in charge and how he is so happy of what DC is doing.

  6. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:29 am:

There’s also such a tired pattern, a schtick, that the Pritzker Crew is falling into… this “need” it appears to have “Newsies” tell a simple story in the most unneeded and complex way.

    Why?

Is there no one there that can do a one sheet script with the “facts” with B-roll, then have that Trump/Rauner graphic become more than a tail end close?

It’s a repetitive rut, showing less and less creativity or thoughtfulness to messaging.

“We’ll just throw up some news stuff, wrap it around a thought simple thought, closing graphic”

    Ya gotta get better. Gotta.

  7. - Steve Rogers - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:31 am:

I really thought this would be a better ad. The title is great, but the content was slow and tortuous. Gotta do better than this.

  8. - Memo From Turner - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:35 am:

    ==Ya gotta get better. Gotta.==

Because a “Republican” in Oswego is routing for you.

  9. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:35 am:

JB needs to get it together. Willy is right-Rauner will be vicious, relentless, and omnipresent. This soft, play-it-safe messaging will not get it done. Be better, JB Squad.

  10. - Former Republican - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:36 am:

Above was me-forgot to put in my name. Also-I think you meant ‘rooting’ instead of routing, Memo From turner.

  11. - I Miss Bentohs - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:40 am:

Well, I wrote a long, thoughtful answer earlier but do not see it so …

This is at best a C. Rauner threw a softball to JB and he squared around for a bunt. It would have been better to simply play the crying baby in the background and Rauner saying he did not care to even give that baby a thought.

If background music is needed, the tin man (something JB should always call Rauner) can be singing I do not have a heart.

  12. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:40 am:

===Because a “Republican” in Oswego is routing for you.===

Rauner is not a Republican. Never has been. Never will be.

    As for my “routing”… lol

If they want a better grade than the “D+” they deserved, but the “C-“ they got from me… they need to be better.

I’m sure it felt good to type what you did, did you forget to rate the ad, or was I the target all along, LOL

  13. - Postbot 59238 - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:51 am:

How badly do you need to botch a hit on Rauner for One-Note-Willy not to like it? The guy has dedicated his life to posting thousands of redundant posts about how much he hates Rauner and even he doesn’t like this one. That’s a huge miss.

  14. - Back to the Future - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:53 am:

    D
    Agree with Willy
This is an example of what folks do when they
    have too much money.

  15. - Oswego Willy - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 11:54 am:

    - Postbot 59238 -

    LOL

“Because Willy”… while making it about me?

I gave a Rauner ad last week a “B+”, explained why in detail…

You should catalog my ratings, bots need things to do too.

Oh, making it about me, you can’t counter what I’ve written… hmm, that should worry you more, as Rauner can’t hide… from Rauner.

  16. - Board Watcher - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:00 pm:

It’s a F. First of all OW was spot on every issue. Second of all its Chicago and Suburban Cook that this race is coming down to, and i don’t see that Ad moving, solidifying or improving JB’s base.JMO

  17. - wordslinger - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:15 pm:

–He will lose if he keeps pandering ads like this going.–

    Who’s he “pandering” to?

It’s a bookend to “I’m not in charge.” Rauner’s scared to join other GOP governors and take a moral stand on the question of the day.

Is what it is. If you spin yourself silly every day to ease your conscience with contradictory and false talking points on this subject, you probably won’t like the spot.

But you’re in the clear minority in the country, all polling shows.

  18. - siriusly - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:16 pm:

    Weak

    C-

Team JB needs to get to the point a littel faster and make the ties a little stronger. That is not good enough to win.

  19. - The Most Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:21 pm:

B-. But that’s to be expected when the team seems to be away at summer camp. This bit about Trump works, particularly right now. Would’ve been more compelling and timely if they focused on family separation. Pretty much more of the same though from team JB and it’s starting to come across as empty. There’s never been a lot of there there. It feels like JB’s team is so focused on fancy — high visibility, great branding, etc. — but during all of this, the campaign loses sight of the most very basic need: strong, effective proactive messages and responses.

  20. - Grandson of Man - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:27 pm:

The ingredients are there, but this video looks amateurish and low-quality, with shaky screens.

The “Silent Partners” is a very good concept. Rauner has been silent on Trump. Time to build on it and do much better.

  21. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:30 pm:

This is what you get from a “Newbie”…must have a weak agency for a guy with Mucho Coin. MJM will run all over this guy if we let the Dems have the whole slate …..and this nut case Susan Munoso reunning loose.

  22. - m - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:48 pm:

=Don’t tell me how a watch is made when telling the time is more effective.=

    Agree.

The digital only stuff can be to a lower standard, a little more aimed to the base or those who are really engaged on a particular topic, but… Digital should be the floor of quality and effectiveness for your ads, but also your most experimental, creative and fun. This is none of those, and really doesn’t make me feel anything on the issue. Maybe if I had just watched a good story showing crying kids, etc, right before, this would make a good connection if the topic is still in the absolute front of my mind. Right now the floor is way too low.

Rauner is and will continue to get creative with Pritzker plumbing, Blago, Madigan, TAX HIKE!, etc, in better concept spots.

  23. - m - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 12:50 pm:

Forgot to give my grade: D.

With digital, you have to do everything in less time, and on that point alone this is a D.

You have to at least let people know what the message is before 10-15 seconds or most won’t see it.

  24. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 1:13 pm:

Such a disappointing ad. There’s so much to work with that it’s hard to understand how an ad could be so useless. HIT HARDER. Please. Yea, I know it’s summer. Yea, I now voters have fatigue on negative campaigning. But Rauner is AWOL and this material lends itself to a much, much, much better hit.

  25. - A guy - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 2:14 pm:

It’s a fail. You’re 25 seconds in before the very beginning stages of making a point. 45 seconds in before you realize who’s trying to make the point. And longer, before an attempt to bring the point together.

They are just not good at this. It’s like a hit piece on the National Guard. Ugh.

  26. - Anonymous - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 2:25 pm:

Likely they showed the ad to JB and he approved. Why? Because he has no experience with anything.

  27. - Regular democrat - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 2:30 pm:

It really is poor. D- at best. How about a sketch w rauner calling daley or arne and asking for a spot for his kid in a chicago elite school when he lives in wimnetka. Little humor like tje toilet ad. Could be effective if done right

  28. - walker - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

What is this …Show-and-tell for a fifth grader, with some laptop skills?
    D-

  29. - Responsa - Thursday, Jun 21, 18 @ 6:22 pm:

Time and time again the JB ads seem to be focused toward people who already are likely to vote for him. Reinforcement is fine, of course, but sooner or later they are going to need to do more to appeal to independents/undecideds, and to disgruntled Rauner voters from last time. They are going to need to address Illinois specific problems. This ad does not do that. This ad does not move the ball forward for JB in any way. Grade D.
