Close, but no cigar

Monday, Jun 25, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* Gov. Rauner and JB Pritzker both attended Equality Illinois’ Pride Parade reception on Sunday. A pal of mine was there and snapped these pics. If you look closely, you’ll see the governor is in the back of the room and Pritzker is near the camera…

* Rauner starts working the room in the direction of the camera…

* They get close…

* And then, according to my buddy, they walk right by each other without so much as a howdy-do…

That was a missed opportunity by both men.

Oh, I bet those two crazy kids get together eventually.

I guess the only time a Rauner will talk to a Pritzker is when The Ounce needs $5 million…

If both men feel that being inclusive and being open to others matter… a handshake would’ve made a larger statement then the small pettiness of both men doing nothing at that moment.

    Disappointing on both.

Is the Guv talking to anyone in any of the pictures? Granted, it’s just 6 snapshots but I don’t see anyone engaging with him.

    Oswego Willy from the ropes!

I looked long and hard at the photos but did not see Rep. Ives anywhere.

  7. - Montrose - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 12:59 pm:

They really should have just done a quick thumb war to settle this whole thing then and there.

  8. - Anonymous - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 1:05 pm:

    I class times 2

  9. - Anonymous - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 1:07 pm:

    Sorry. “no class x 2”

  10. - VanillaMan - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 1:12 pm:

One’s a governor, and one’s one of America’s richest - but neither of them have as much class or coutesy as a beggar at a corner McDonalds.

    I’m voting for neither.

Sort of reminds me of the Titanic passing the iceberg…

They must of sort of got along back in 2011: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MCytLRuGG0 - “Rauner, Pritzker See Opportunities for Venture Capital”

Funny. I thought the guy in the polka dot cap was Sam McCann

Thier pride got the best of them.

    Agreed. Disappointed.

One is 6′7″ and the other is 5′-2″. Easy to understand how they didn’t see each other

  19. - Chris P. Bacon - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 2:52 pm:

Why didn’t Rauner walk in the parade? He did the Aurora one last weekend. So 2-faced.

  20. - jim - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:11 pm:

a missed opportunity to do what - shake hands and pretend they like each other?

  21. - 44th - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:11 pm:

weird, sort of pathetic of both of them.

  22. - OneMan - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:27 pm:

Why didn’t Prizker walk in the Aurora parade? He did the Chicago one last weekend. So 2-faced.

  23. - NeverPoliticallyCorrect - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:37 pm:

Clearly, neither one is much of a retail politician. Which would be fine if either knew how to lead. Rauner has demonstrated he doesn’t and Pritzker hasn’t demonstrated he can. OMG, what an election this will be.

  24. - A guy - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 3:47 pm:

Takes a couple of these parades before you fully embrace the full man hug. Next year, I bet they run to each other.

    /s

  25. - Arsenal - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:00 pm:

Goodness. Lotta pearl clutching over two guys not shaking hands while in the same crowded room.

  26. - 47th Ward - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 4:40 pm:

How disappointed was everyone that Rauner didn’t wear his leather vest?

  27. - NorthsideNoMore - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 5:08 pm:

Sadly this is the best the Once Great State has to offer.

  28. - Mike Cabonargi - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 5:09 pm:

The polka dot hat featured in the photo was worn stylishly by St. Rep. Kelly Cassidy.

  29. - blue dog dem - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 5:32 pm:

    Mike.thanks. my mistake.

  30. - LizPhairTax - Monday, Jun 25, 18 @ 7:19 pm:

Missed Connections the day after that parade is a cluster

  31. - Kelly Cassidy - Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 9:50 am:

That hat gets me in more trouble…

  32. - Anonymous - Tuesday, Jun 26, 18 @ 11:43 am:

I’m with Jim on this one - what do we gain from them pretending not to hate each other? If you’re Pritzker, why shake hands with someone who told the press you’re a bad person? And if you’re Rauner, why give him the legitimacy of a handshake?

I get the civility thing, and it’s important, but not here.
