Where in Illinois are Pritzker’s Toilets?

JB Pritzker disconnected the toilets in his Gold Coast mansion in order to receive a massive tax break after having the home reclassified as “uninhabitable.”

The question remains: where in Illinois are Pritzker’s toilets?

One of them made an appearance last night at the Northfield Township Democrats general election kick off party, where JB Pritzker was making an appearance.

Stay tuned as the toilets continue to pop up across Illinois.

Nothing Wednesday (Janus day).

#TBT JB Pritzker: “I Certainly Have Discovered the Flaws in the System”

In January, JB Pritzker said “I certainly have discovered the flaws in the system” when he was questioned about removing toilets from his mansion to receive a $230,000 tax break.

In response, the Rauner campaign released a video titled “Flaws in the System.” The video includes quotes from stories covering Pritzker’s scheme to benefit himself at the expense of taxpayers.

Check it out below:

Chicago Sun-Times: “J.B. Pritzker … argued [the house next door] was ‘uninhabitable’ to win what so far have been nearly $230,000 in property tax breaks.”

Chicago Tribune: “Pritzker has benefitted from the reassessment of a neighboring Gold Coast mansion he purchased.”

Daily Herald: “Pritzker is also implicated by buying a mansion next to his posh house in Chicago and letting it fall into disrepair to get a $230,000 property tax reduction.”

Where in the world are Pritzker’s toilets? One was spotted outside of the McCallister’s house, made famous by the film Home Alone.

We wonder if the McCallisters called 1-833-TAX-SCAM.

…Adding… Pritzker’s campaign manager…

Team Rauner has really evolved, gone from hiding in the toilet to carrying one around

  2. - Sonny - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:15 am:

And people want a civil discussion of the states fiscal future. When the state is in the toilet, great time to double down on your inner Republican Seinfeld.

  3. - Whatever - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:17 am:

The Rauner campaign is officially in the toilet. Poor Bruce is flushing it all away.

  4. - State Sen. Clay Davis - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:19 am:

This is so stupid. Putting a commode on the lawn to troll the libs

  5. - Henry Francis - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:20 am:

The image of JB as a plumber is kinda funny. But I don’t know if the Rauner crew should play the costume card. If team JB ever really goes on the offensive, they have a wealth of material there.

  6. - Just sayin - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:21 am:

    This is so very juvenile

  7. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:22 am:

The t-shirts and social media trolling, they’re fun. It highlights that the Pritzker Crew has little grasp of their own oppo. This shoulda been put to bed when the oppo book on themselves saw this, and pointed to a correction they made on their own. Unforced errors.

This also highlights how unlikable Rauner is, and this idea that wasting time with toilets and t-shirts, while fun, won’t make a Rauner any more likable, no matter how many social media thingies they do… with toilets.

If you’re surrendering that your candidate just isn’t likable.., maybe that toilet symbolizes more that Pritzker’s unforced error?

  11. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:28 am:

Lets go extreme fratbro. That’s what will get the voters to ignore the last three years of doing nothing.

  12. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:37 am:

I still think this is funny, especially the toilets on the lawn, but…it seems a little trifling. Like, it’s a reason to chuckle at JB, but I’m not sure that’s enough when it makes the Rauner campaign look pretty silly, as well.

  13. - Honeybear - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:38 am:

    Pritzker should do
    Rauners
    Invisible Rivian Car
    Invisibly manufactured
    In Bloomington Illinois
Rivian gave him the first one
As a thank you for the
    50,000,000 EDGE grant

=If you’re surrendering that your candidate just isn’t likable.., maybe that toilet symbolizes more that Pritzker’s unforced error?=

As you’re well aware. Two unlikable candidates, both underwater. It’s not a choice of who you want, it’s who you don’t want.

Dealing with the realities of an underwater nominee with a big oppo book, in a year that was supposed to be a cakewalk, was a choice. The machine picked the money. So there will be lots of this, because when the race is filled with two candidates that most Illinoisans don’t want, it will be about who you don’t want the most. Might as well have some fun with it.

  15. - thunderspirit - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:45 am:

I agree with OW that this is something about which the Pritzker campaign should have put a response in place already, and that it’s a mistake they didn’t have to make.

At the same time, it’s pretty clear that the Rauner campaign thinks they have something damaging here. I think they’re misguided as to its impact.

  16. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:50 am:

The limousine liberal billionaire who doesn’t think our 2nd highest property tax burden has any correlation to our record outmigration and whose primary campaign promise is to raise taxes on the wealthy is exposed for his hypocrisy and tone deafness.

Nothing the “crew” can do about that.

Also, Mike Madigan’s hand picked candidate has the twofer of Cayman Island holdings to shelter his billions . Like Mike Madigan he claims to be for the working man, but goes to extraordinary measures to shift the tax burden to the middle class.

Throw in the possibility of more Blago tapes as well as no way to pay for all his promised new ‘progressive” spending after the graduated income tax went down in flames last month and we are in for an interesting Fall.

JB has done nothing to reach out to independents or distance himself from the Madigan machine.

  17. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:52 am:

    ===Two unlikable candidates, both underwater.===

===The poll taken June 9-11 with a margin of error of +/-3.99 percent found that 43 percent had a favorable opinion of J.B. Pritzker while 39 percent had an unfavorable view.===

    Pritzker isn’t under water.

I read your comment. Good luck.

  18. - TopHatMonocle - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:52 am:

Following Pritzker around at political events with a toilet is juvenile but acceptable. Putting a toilet on a random citizen’s lawn, whether it’s been featured a movie or not, is bizarre and crosses a line.

  19. - Anonymous - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:53 am:

Pritzger could riff on “unclogging” a”stopped-up” state budget process with a Governor who sent the state “down the drain”

  20. - Whatever - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 10:57 am:

The mansion has no toilets, but Rauner is the one with nothing to go on.

  21. - Former Downstater - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:01 am:

The story above about nursing homes being shut down makes all of this look pretty foolish, doesn’t it?

  22. - Streator Curmudgeon - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:01 am:

For voters who’ve been in a coma the past 3 1/2 years, this diversion might gain some traction.

  23. - Leatherneck - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:01 am:

If they had more advertising money, I can easily seeing Sam McCann’s campaign doing a parody ad of the “million dollar toilets” ad to take a shot at both Pritzker and Rauner. While regarding McCann as the only “middle-class candidate” in the campaign.

  24. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:05 am:

    ===The limousine liberal billionaire===

    Bruce Rauner?

HB40, “sanctuary state”, running up debt…

===Throw in the possibility of more Blago tapes as well…===

The Pritzker Crew has admitted, for the record, they have no idea if any more tapes exist. Yep.

===JB has done nothing to reach out to independents…===

… and yet Rauner is so unlikable, underwater “everywhere” losing “everywhere”, less seniors and downstate… and down 9 points to Pritzker, who isn’t underwater with the millions spent to make him unlikable…

    Bruce Rauner is unlikable.

    Bruce Rauner has failed.

Rauner needs more people to “like” him. Otherwise, there won’t be enough voters to re-elect him.

  25. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:06 am:

LP, your first sentence boomeranged in and out of coherence for 40 words and still never found it’s way to anything that’ll convince anyone outside of Rauner’s immediate family.

  26. - Langhorne - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:07 am:

Rauner has burned in his Pritzker/toilet/tax scam message. Its time to move on. To paraphrase, its not the toilets, stupid.

Pritzker could take a lesson from the messager-(not)in-charge.

  27. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:08 am:

==no way to pay for all his promised new ‘progressive” spending==

It’s funny that you think a candidate would pay a price for promising voters new goodies without making them pay the bill.

  28. - JS Mill - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:14 am:

    =Two unlikable candidates=

I have met Rauner, listened to him speak in person many times. He is an incredible tool bag.

I have never met or listened to Pritzker other than on TV. He seems far more likeable (if that is something that matters) than Rauner.

At the end of the day the toilet stuff was funny and definitely a fair shot at Pritzker. Pritzker and his team have handled the rebuttal ineptly. At the end of the day it is not substantive because Rauner is just as vulnerable when it comes to property taxes claiming multiple homestead exemptions which is actually fraudulent versus simply gaming the system. I doubt some here will understand the difference and it is definitely not something you want to try to explain in an ad.

Rauner has very little ammo but lots of money to share what he has.

For Pritzker, Rauner is a target rich environment that he should be pounding every day. That is a failure that may ultimately cost him the election.

  29. - James Knell - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:15 am:

I can only speak for myself, but I already associate toilets with Bruce and his lovely Democrat wife. Aren’t they going to try to make him out to be a lovable domesticated dork again?

  30. - Rich Miller - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:26 am:

===Rauner has burned in his Pritzker/toilet/tax scam message. Its time to move on===

    lol

    Burned in? He’s barely started.

  31. - VanillaMan - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:28 am:

    I’m unimpressed.
There’s so much more to this that would score political points. Rauner’s campaign staff is too amateur and impulsive to do the job right.

JB looks good as a plumber. It makes him look like a working man. He’s happy? This visual is supposed to be hard on Pritzker - how?

This stunt says more about the guys running Rauner’s campaign more than anything else. And what it reveals is embarrassing to Rauner.

  32. - Dance Band on the Titanic - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:31 am:

    Two words: duct tape

  33. - Rich - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:32 am:

That commercial shows that JB at his best a job creator

  34. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:34 am:

Lately I’ve seen the anti-Rauner property tax commercial on TV. It’s two super-rich guys trying to get tax breaks.

It seems that every day, Pritzker and Stratton are at some unity-building event. What is Rauner doing to build grasssroots support?

There is so much positive and popular stuff to run on, and I’m waiting to see that element of Pritzker’s campaign: marijuana legalization, progressive income tax, health care expansion, worker protections, etc. I wish it would start, already. Stake those positions and hit the opponent.

  35. - Harry - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:35 am:

Hard to see how this would influence even one vote. Rauner has been incredibly polarizing for 4 years and people have pretty much made up their minds, one way or teh other. I am skeptical that this will work even to suppress or increase turnout from the respective bases.

It’s kind of clever, but leaves me totally unimpressed why anyone would care enough to have their behavior change.

  36. - Lucly Pierre - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:47 am:

    Arsenal,

Joe Berrios will be glad to hear that no one outside of Rauner’s immediate family is concerned about our corrupt property tax system that favors the wealthy who frequently hire moonlighting politicians to avoid paying their fair share.

That sure is an incoherent message that would never work in an election.

The Speaker for obvious reason refuses to reform the system and JB is right there with him.

  37. - The Important Papers - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:47 am:

This is what happens when you have two campaigns that are flush with cash.

  38. - Deadbeat Conservative (Blocked yet?) - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 11:59 am:

=This is what happens when you have two campaigns that are flush with cash.=
    Thanks TIP, I needed that.
Also why isn’t the Pritzker campaign calling out the Rauner folks on aruging that a house without toilets is habitable. Most people would agree that a house without toilets is uninhabitable…

    Grossest Governor Ever.

  39. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:13 pm:

    ==Joe Berrios==

    Who?

  40. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:15 pm:

==He seems far more likeable (if that is something that matters) than Rauner.==

I don’t want to discredit your impression or anything, but the “likability” thing really matters most in the aggregate- what do the great mass of voters think about who’s likable and who’s not?

But, OTOH, as OW points out, JB’s numbers aren’t underwater (though it’s a near run sort of thing).

  41. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:17 pm:

==There’s so much more to this that would score political points.==

There’s something to that. By focusing on the toilet so much, I’m not sure the idea of the tax issue (the “hypocrisy”, as LP screeches) is actually landing.

OTOH, it’s sometimes more powerful to make people laugh at your opponent than spit at him.

  42. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:22 pm:

Arsenal, Joe Berrios was the head of the Cook County Democratic party as well as the Cook County Assessor who presided over the corrupt property tax system no one cares about.

    OW,

Bruce Rauner rides around town on a Harley or drives a a trash can van, not a limo and last time I checked was not a billionaire.

Don’t let the truth get in the way of some good Rauner bashing

  43. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:29 pm:

===Bruce Rauner rides around town on a Harley or drives a a trash can van, not a limo and last time I checked was not a billionaire.===

When was the last appearance of tgatctrash can van… oh yeah the phony moving day pictures… a prop for one load here, and unload.

Prop vehicles, along with costumes… that’s what you’re hanging your hat on?

    lol

  44. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:30 pm:

===…last time I checked was not a billionaire.

Seen Rauner’s full tax returns, have you?

    Hmm.

==Joe Berrios was the head of the Cook County Democratic party as well as the Cook County Assessor who presided over the corrupt property tax system no one cares about.==

Oh, the guy who already lost his primary for a second-tier county wide office. Yeah, cool, you’ll have a lot of fun trying to make everyone remember him in November.

    Harmless fun.

  46. - Arsenal - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:41 pm:

    ==last time I checked was not a billionaire.==

“Oh I’m probably .01 percent,” -Bruce Rauner.

It’s so funny how you’ve never even *seen* anything negative about Rauner. It just doesn’t exist in the bubble you’ve carefully built for yourself.

  47. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 12:47 pm:

    Second tier county wide office?

LOL, he was the Head of the Cook County Democratic party

  48. - BlueDogDem - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 1:11 pm:

Arsenal. Your full of angry today. I think you should go back yo your day job. Going door to door for the Madigan campaign.

  49. - Ducky LaMoore - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 1:17 pm:

All I can say is… if one of these Pritzker potties pops up in my neck of the woods… I’m going to use it for it’s intended purpose.

  50. - TaylorvilleTornado - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 1:19 pm:

Even for a guy that wears costumes and puts on an accent, this is silly.

  51. - Skeptical - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 2:43 pm:

JB’s got a toilet problem in Chicago, Bruce has a plumbing problem in Quincy…which problem will the voters care more about?

  52. - Cheryl44 - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 3:34 pm:

I just saw the ad on WLS. There is so very much wrong. The “Gold coast” mansion seems to be in Nortbrook and I’d IN really has matching porcelain Dobermans I’ll rethink my vote.

  53. - Boone's is Back - Friday, Jun 29, 18 @ 4:15 pm:

Aside from being really gimmicky, maybe this message would resonate more if Rauner wasn’t also super rich and hadn’t filed property tax appeals on his properties?

Otherwise maybe the Gov should try to get something done for the state that he can actually campaign on.
