On the (same) road again

Tuesday, Aug 21, 2018 - Posted by Rich Miller

* In August of 2014, gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner’s “Shake Up Express” made a swing through Mt. Sterling, Rushville, Macomb and Monmouth…

* Almost exactly four years later, Gov. Bruce Rauner took his “The Fight For What’s Right” tour on a swing through Mt. Sterling, Rushville, Macomb and Monmouth…

Notice the shirts.

* He added a stop this year, though…

Sometimes, I just don’t understand how candidates can do this all day, day in and day out. Giving the same speeches, constantly smiling, shaking hands, making quick small talk and then heading to the next stop. That can’t be easy.

* I often get tired by just reading Rep. Tom Bennett’s Twitter posts. A small sampling

Does he still have the $18 watch???

  2. - Education First - Tuesday, Aug 21, 18 @ 10:38 am:

For most candidates, it’s better than being on the phone all day asking for money. And theoretically, it keeps the public in touch with the “real person”. Pretty much why we see Rauner dressing the way he does…he wants so badly to be the “common man”.

Bruce’s downstate costume party brings to mind an old riddle: What’s the difference between a politician’s boots and a cowboy’s boots?

Blue jeans: check. Plaid shirt: check. Belt buckle: Oh, forgot it in 2014. Check in 2018.

He’s really one of us now. /s

40 of the faithful in Macomb…

” Governor Bruce Rauner made an unscheduled stop in Macomb Monday afternoon to rally Republican support for the upcoming gubernatorial election and other races.”

Maybe it was on his tour schedule, but the McDonough County Voice calls it “unscheduled”… odd.

-Probably not easy for a human to do.

Might be easy for those with the bot2000 programming update.

==Maybe it was on his tour schedule, but the McDonough County Voice calls it “unscheduled”… odd.==

Not exactly odd when you consider the impact his administration has had on WIU. A scheduled and publicized stop might have had a few people on hand who would question this quoted statement: “I want world-class state universities and community colleges. That means more money for Western and all our universities and community colleges. That’s what I’m going to do in my second term, get a lot more resources for our community colleges and our university system, so we can have great education cradle to career, along with a competitive, growing economy.“

Really? “…more money for Western…” Really? Can we get you to sign something on that?

Rauner says the exact same thing every hour of every day anyway. At least the scenery changes for him on tour.

  10. - Southern_Dawg - Tuesday, Aug 21, 18 @ 11:39 am:

Is there anyone, and I do mean anyone with a pulse, that truly believes Brucie walks around in a flannel shirt– or a cowboy hat– when he’s at one of his nine mansions? Or on his private jet?

This is a honest question, is there anyone that truly believes this? Just his dress alone should tell you that he takes voters for fools. I don’t even need to see any of his policies.

2014 create jobs, freeze property taxes, repeal Quinn’s tax hike, world class schools. 2018 my main thing is madigan

Dawg, Rauner has neither a Stetson nor a Gulfstream.

I’ve asked Tom multiple times (I’m from Gibson City like him) if I can have that part of his job so I could enjoy free pancake and sausage dinners while he does the actual legislative work.
