  1. - I don't have a job - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 10:52 am:

Replace the welfare system huh? That’s a pretty revolutionary idea. It will be tough to implement when he is not governor

  2. - Not Rich - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 10:56 am:

Good enough to take 5-7% of the vote south of I-80.. Italy here we come>>

  3. - Charry - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 10:57 am:

I’m Sam mccann, and look at this fancy truck I bought with campaign donations.. what a Goof.

the infogrpahics are hard to read and flash off screen before ever getting to read them.

He opened pandora’s box on owning a construction company, you all saw it. Residents of the 50th might know about your failed businesses Sam, but the rest of the state doesnt know about it yet. You ready? because it doesn’t take a Rauner Warchest to expose how poorly you mishandled your personal and business finances.

But hey he’s a “conservative” the only conservative running in the race. Downstate audience will probably gobble this up but not sure if it will translate to voters.

    Overall C +.

  4. - Texas Red - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 10:58 am:

Local 150’s plan B looks great

  5. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 10:59 am:

Decent enough to serve his purposes, which is to take Rauner votes Downstate.

They ain’t slick, but that’s really the point.

See if he gets any money behind them.

  6. - Steve Rogers - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:00 am:

Is he getting mileage reimbursement for driving around in that truck?

  7. - allknowingmasterofracoondom - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:00 am:

Can’t wait to see McCann’s new government job he gets after he gets creamed in the election. These ads are his audition for that job.

  8. - VanillaMan - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:05 am:

    Exceeds expectations.
    Grade A

  9. - Not Rich - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:09 am:

“Charry” I do not see the Trump supporters in this State concentrating on his multiple failings, do you really think they can connect with McCann’s business failure?? If Sam touches into that base, he may get to more than 5% of the vote downstate

  10. - Anon - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:10 am:

I don’t like Sam McCann, but I like his campaign.

I also like that this is a decent way to poke Rauner in the side after everything Rauner did to McCann in 2016.

  11. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:12 am:

    They are Bs

The campaign needs to connect with downstate Ives voters concentrating where Rauner failed in the economics and the conservative farm values, and hardworking blue collar voters Rauner mocks with costumes.

McCann needs 5% or so to make a difference.

With enough dollars, these ads tap into that pool to get the 5%.

    They’re Bs.

  12. - McCann For(d) Governor - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:13 am:

“I’m Sam McCann and I’m here to tell you about the new Ford F150.

“Illinois needs action and that action is driving to your local Ford dealer”

  13. - City Zen - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:13 am:

    ==Local 150’s plan B looks great==

Wondering if they submitted the permit yet to shut down Joliet Road for the parade on November 7.

  14. - Colin O'Scopy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:23 am:

=I’m Sam McCann, and look at this fancy truck I bought with campaign donations=

And failed to attach a front license plate. Or he registered it in Indiana.

  15. - Langhorne - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:23 am:

“No one wants to shake those idle hands.” Wha??? Dont they have an editor for these spots? Homespun folksiness is one thing, but thats beyond awkward. And the graphics are worthless.

  16. - RNUG - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:24 am:

== failings, do you really think they can connect with McCann’s business failure ? ==

I think a lot of downstate voters can relate to ecomonic struggles.

  17. - VanillaMan - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:29 am:

    The truck isn’t new.
The license plate is gone for privacy purposes.
If you have you have seen a new F-150, you know this.

  18. - 47th Ward - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:29 am:

DGA should flood the Paducah, Terre Haute and Quincy markets with scary Sam-McCann-Is-Too-Conservative-For-Illinois ads. Inexpensive markets with the most powerful McCann message possible. It’s a no brainer.

  19. - RNUG - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:32 am:

    Ads are B+.

Mostly positive. Speaks to economic issues. Maybe a bit too folksy, but it works. The best is Illinois’ Needs Action

  20. - Anonymous - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:37 am:

Wait til you see his ads touting his days as a Marine. Oh, wait, never mind.

A lot of land mines with this guy. The only question is will Rauner’s people want to run all the opp on him (and we all know there’s a lot) and give him exposure

  21. - wordslinger - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:39 am:

–DGA should flood the Paducah, Terre Haute and Quincy markets with scary Sam-McCann-Is-Too-Conservative-For-Illinois ads.–

All over Downstate. I’m sure Pritzker could afford to be generous to DGA later.

The “Ives is too conservative for Illinois” spot almost put her over the top. McCann ain’t going to win, but it would go a long way to taking a chunk out of Rauner.

  22. - Lucky Pierre - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:40 am:

Mc Cann message can be distilled into

I am qualified to be a Governor because I owned a failed construction company that went into bankruptcy and I claimed $38,000 in mileage reimbursements for in a 7 month period on this fancy pickup.

My candidacy is primarily funded by Democratic special interest groups and will benefit the hand picked candidate of Speaker Madigan - JB Pritzker by peeling off some votes downstate

    http://www.sj-r.com/news/20160309/state-elections-board-to-review-sen-sam-mccann-campaign-fund-questions

  23. - Pundent - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:47 am:

Quite effective if they reach their intended audience. They’ve got trucks, construction equipment, flags, and cows. Obviously he’s zeroed in on his constituency where Rauner is still trying to figure out who his is.

If McCann can harvest even a small percentage of the Ives vote he will leave a mark on this race.

  24. - Anon - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:49 am:

McCannot’s video production values are on par for most Christian-produced media.

Which is to say, painful to watch for the majority of us and yet completely enthralling to those that send their money to televangelists.

So he get’s a solid A for his target audience.

  25. - Pundent - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:53 am:

=Mc Cann message can be distilled into=

    “I’m a conservative and the Governor isn’t”

  26. - Arsenal - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:54 am:

==Mc Cann message can be distilled into==

And Rauner’s can be distilled into “I’ve failed at everything I’ve tried since getting into office and I have no idea what I’ll try next.”

  27. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 11:55 am:

===Mc Cann message can be distilled into…===

… an incumbent with no constituency has to worry about a candidate running to his right… with such baggage… and that the incumbent *still*… has to worry about a McCann.

    That’s the message.

  28. - DuPage Bard - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:10 pm:

These ads will get McCann above 5% statewide for sure. They’ll help JB become Governor and they will also add a recognized 3rd party with all the rights and opportunities of the GOP and the Dems.
Now if the Conservative party can do better than the Green Party did coming out of 2006 they may have something there.

  29. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:18 pm:

Fully expect the Rauner crew to run ads in September touting Sammy’s marine career, business issues, the mileage fiasco and the dem support.

We will see about those 5%-10% predictions.

  30. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:23 pm:

===Fully expect the Rauner crew to run ads in September touting Sammy’s marine career, business issues, the mileage fiasco and the dem support.===

If you’re a failed incumbent, the worst Republican governor in America, terribly under water, down 16 points…

…and running ads to keep someone below 5%… that’s not a best way to win.

  31. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:28 pm:

What poll or polls show Rauner down 16?

  32. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:31 pm:

    “Questions?”

  33. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:33 pm:

    No questions but a comment.

    It is a broken link.

  35. - Anonymous - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:39 pm:

    Ah, good ‘ol Illinois.

And many wonder why people are fleeing the state.

  36. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:42 pm:

===And many wonder why people are fleeing the state.===

Well… Rauner *is* the worst Republican governor in America…

  37. - The Captain - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:03 pm:

I liked the 2nd one a lot, it reminded me of Gary Forby’s best ad. I thought the first one was just ok, I thought whoever wrote the script for the 3rd one didn’t realize those words were intended to be spoken aloud because it definitely didn’t roll off the tongue.

  38. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:10 pm:

And somehow you think the exodus will lessen during a JB regime, Willy?

    LOL

  39. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:13 pm:

===And somehow you think the exodus will lessen…===

… so you readily admit Rauner can’t stop it? If Rauner is failing so badly with the exodus, why support him?

Why give Rauner a second term?

  40. - Leatherneck - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:17 pm:

    - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 12:18 pm:

Fully expect the Rauner crew to run ads in September touting Sammy’s marine career, business issues, the mileage fiasco and the dem support

It wouldn’t surprise me to see the Pritzker team have similar anti-McCann ads or statements as the campaign nears its end too.

  41. - Pick a Name - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:24 pm:

MJM Willy, you know it and I know it.

Because JB will be infinitely worse, that is why you give Rauner a second term.

  42. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:33 pm:

    ===MJM===

… and yet, Rauner signed a budget with a 32% tax increase, no reforms, and a social agenda an incumbent California Governor would beg to have, including taxpayer funded abortions and making Illinois a “sanctuary state” too.

    That’s stopping MJM?

===Because JB will be infinitely worse===

Worse than a whole GA never giving Illinois a budget?

    I doubt that.

‘Nember when you were talking about “Barry” a while back?

    Tough to forget.

  43. - Grandson of Man - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:38 pm:

Good salt of the earth ads, except the welfare state part. I really hope McCann can make the difference.

  44. - On the Fence - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:39 pm:

The real people will like and relate

  45. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 1:39 pm:

The reason McCann being in this race, these ads, his message… McCann is stating the obvious…

    Bruce Rauner is a Raunerite.

Bruce Rauner has never been, and is not, a Republican… abd Rauner is in no way… a conservative.

These ads speak to Rauner being the worst Republican governor in America because in no measure possible is Rauner a Republican.

  46. - Oswego Willy - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 2:11 pm:

===That Barry comment kinda bothers you..===

    You miss the whole point.

That it doesn’t bother you, that should trouble… you.

Like I said, it speaks so much more about you… than you may think.

Sen. John McCain made a point to defend Sen. Obama from remarks… yet, here you are with yours.

  47. - Pundent - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 2:29 pm:

=Because JB will be infinitely worse, that is why you give Rauner a second term.=

Doesn’t work that way. Don’t believe me, ask Pat Quinn.

  48. - Arthur Andersen - Friday, Aug 31, 18 @ 2:36 pm:

That ain’t the truck he bought with campaign money. He bought an Expedition SUV. The F-150 looks like a rental.

As far as the videos, meh. Never was a fan of the guy so I’m not the best evaluator.
