Empty threat? Or does somebody know something we don’t?

* Politico

Republican county chairmen are fundraising for state Rep. Jerry Long, the defiant Streator Republican accused of harassing an employee. Long’s conservative friends stepped forward after the House Republican Organization shut off the spigot of funds to his re-election bid and asked him to step down from his seat. Long has refused. “We’re going to do all we can to get him re-elected,” John McGlasson, the Central Committeeman for the 16th Congressional District, told POLITICO. He and county chairmen from Bureau, Putnam, Lasalle and Livingston counties are helping Long’s campaign..

* Those county party chairs ain’t exactly fundraising powerhouses. None have reported any contributions since the quarter began and here are their quarter-ending cash on hand balances…

* LaSalle County: No committee on file
* Livingston County: $5,357.05
* Bureau County: $615.12
* Putnam County: $4,620.16
* 16th CD GOP: No committee on file
* 16th CD Republican Central Committeeman John McGlasson: No committee on file

They don’t even have enough to do a decent mailer.

* Back to Politico

Long believes his support of Jeanne Ives during the primaries prompted the GOP to turn abandon him.

I cannot find anything that shows Long endorsed Ives in the primary. He’s not on her campaign website’s list of endorsements. Long didn’t sign the letter from GOP legislators blasting Gov. Rauner for distorting Ives’ record. Google turns up nothing. Long did appear with Rauner at a July campaign event, however.

* And there’s also this

John McGlasson was re-elected 16th Congressional District State Central Committeeman despite the objections of four state lawmakers.

McGlasson, of Pontiac, had supported Jeanne Ives for governor against incumbent Bruce Rauner in the Republican primary, as well as candidate James Marter, who lived outside the district, against incumbent Adam Kinzinger. Both candidates he endorsed lost.

Reps. Jerry Long, Streator, and David Welter, Morris, and Sens. Chuck Weaver, Peoria, and Dave Syverson, Rockford, signed a letter discouraging McGlasson from running.

“With the candidates you endorsed losing their elections, we feel it would be in the best interests of Republican voters in the 16th District for you not to stand re-election,” they wrote. “Your actions are not only unusual but call your judgment and political acumen into serious question.”

So, Long sided against McGlasson because of McGlasson’s support for Ives, which would also indicate that Long didn’t endorse Ives. But now McGlasson is standing with Long. Any port in a storm, I suppose.

Keep an eye on what McGlasson and Ives do next. Ives has remained stone silent about Rep. Long. Her close ties to the Richard Uihlein cash pipeline means we might possibly see some money coming in for Long.

    So Ives is maybe waiting on the OK from Uhlein to have an opinion on Long? Some leader.

  3. - Huh? - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 11:51 am:

    The LaSalle County Republicans are a hot mess. Supposedly there are 2 “official” Republican committees.

  4. - Grand Avenue - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 11:57 am:

    Have any of the Proft “newspapers” weighed in on the issue?

    Conservative Republicans standing with accused slime balls. I guess it’s not just a Washington thing.

    Never believe the accuser as long as the accused votes the “right” way. This is a very big part of what is wrong with our country.

    If you can imagine the key stone cops each carrying one Barney Fife bullet you can picture the LaSalle County and surround political establishment. Cosmopolitan it ain’t.

    Geez, Rauner really whipped into shape that state GOP he bought.

    Add this FUBAR to the Nazi and 9/11 Truther elected GOP nominees.

    What are you talking about? Ives commented on it last night to Paul Lisnek. It’s on her FB page (at about 5 min mark): https://www.facebook.com/jeanneives/videos/1921657591469162/?hc_ref=ARTZbtC_ozAxFPJZYtpJe-ywY7uQ_uFtwY-O1IQYSv-RyyYYPz8fAhdRbYpvn61fnng&fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARAXJGUiN7eVe_YjsdRGm6Dww21_kj_kJktCzzJRQeW3AGKLTLXKc_iCNmeGDZ_hW-jge0If0hVezLEOEshrYt1qAaVm8CoKMHQgUTzBdJMsQdF3m8mRNX3IbCMsHhYmjTEM5gr3a-sNBJj9TmBCnXmXEO4FZge2RpJI46bA8mXxYOkF6uWr_w&__tn__=kC-R

    My old GOP has morphed into the Ives-type flying-monkey right, and Raunerites.

    It will take a standard-bearer like Jim Edgar to reconstruct a post-Rauner ILGOP into a recognizable, relatable entity that folks can relate to.

    There’s work to be done.

    Despite lacking infrastructure, 72nd Republicans will vote Republican tride and true. It is a strange district. Impact for long is minimal, facebook traffic has not been hot on personal pages nor on the local newspapers comment sections.

    ===72nd Republicans will vote Republican===

    Not enough of them to win.

    Yeah, because that’s always where I go to see how the average person thinks.

    Unquestioning support for far right ideas? Check!

    Questionable personal behavior? Check!

    This is just the kind of candidate that Uihlein supports.

    Long represents the 76th. 20% more Dem ballots cast in the 2018 primary than GOP in that district. In the present situation, the fringe gets loud, moderates shake their heads, and Dems smell weakness.

  16. - Fav Hum - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 1:59 pm:

    Why would Ives do anything for him? He didn’t support her.

    She’s not wanting to comment until she sees the report. Why would she comment until she knows the facts?

    She doesn’t want to trust the R house leader. Seems reasonable to me….

  17. - Fav Human - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 2:00 pm:

    Ives talks about Long starting about 5.00 into the tape.

  18. - Matt Vernau - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 2:21 pm:

    The Republican Party needs serious reform. We can’t win as the party of the rich. We can’t have a positive effect on things if we are too far removed from the middle. Fixing this might take a complete rebuild and this just might be the year we take that loss.

  19. - Ummmmm - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 2:25 pm:

    @Fav Hum, you do know that Ives publicly supported two womens’ complaints against two democratic GA members, even after one was found not to have been sexually harassed and the other before there even was an investigation.
    I guess she only holds her judgment when a republican who is accused.
    Doesn’t seem reasonable to me, seems like pure self interest

  20. - MWNMNWWNM - Friday, Sep 21, 18 @ 2:48 pm:

    The average person sure doesn’t hang out here.

    ==Why would she comment until she knows the facts?==

    It has never stopped her before.
