* Maybe I should start a revenue-need “guesstimate” for the incumbent…

All while cutting taxes. Just like magic. Actually, exactly like magic.

Don’t forget the cost of lowering the income tax rate.

  2. - Trapped in the 'burbs - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:01 pm:

Too little, too late. Rauner has zero credibility.

  3. - Oswego Willy - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:07 pm:

Rauner flat out refused to fully fund higher education.

Believing Rauner on higher ed is a fool’s errand type of embracing.

I’ve seen the movie before. Rauner still wants universities closed.

    Nothing has changed.

  4. - RNUG - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:12 pm:

And earlier today Rauner was making fun of JB’s $11B (Rich’s estimate) spending plan and JB’s need to raise taxes for it.

Video exists … They live stream the meetings.

A Daniel Dale lie tracker would be better

  6. - Stumpy's bunker - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:34 pm:

This kind of gushing desperation is not very pretty. Makes one wonder if this will build into a crescendo by November 6.

Could this be the beginning of a “Pay no attention to what I’ve done, pay attention to what I promise to do” tour?

  7. - Cheryl44 - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:36 pm:

Why should we even believe he wants to be re-elected?

  8. - Norseman - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 5:44 pm:

Why not promise a bunch of stuff? Rauner knows he’s a long shot and will say anything to change that. Next, he’ll promise an iPad for everyone on Christmas.

  9. - Huh? - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 6:05 pm:

    Did 1.4% shake a magic 8 ball?

  10. - njt16 - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 6:08 pm:

@LP, @TR, @CZ or @LGA? The resident Raunerites and Libertarians are active in the other thread.

To the post, seems like a fairly straight forward page out of Trump’s playbook from the RNC convention. By November Rauner will go with “I am the only one who can save this state [country]”

  11. - Jocko - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 6:09 pm:

At this point, Bruce should take a page from Willie Wilson (and George Sheldon) and hand out gift cards for votes.

  12. - Baloneymous - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

is he going to say if he’s reelected he’ll pass a $50 billion capital bill in veto session?

  13. - RNUG - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 6:11 pm:

== By November Rauner will go with “I am the only one who can save this state [country]” ==

Don’t have to wait until November. He pretty much said that today at the meeting I attended.

  14. - Anonymous - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 7:16 pm:

Actions speak loudly. He hasn’t put a dime of his own money into his PAC this year. Or last year.

There’s time. But wouldn’t he open the tap if he saw an opening?

  15. - Meanwhile back at the ranch - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 7:18 pm:

While he is making these “promises” he needs to fulfill his court orders and put people on their right step increases October 1

  16. - JS Mill - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 8:00 pm:

If you are only “saying” these things they don’t actually cost money.

The man is all about pretendzies.

  17. - Duopoly (blocked?) - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 8:52 pm:

    =zero credibility.=

This is for people attached to reality, which is unfashionable at both the state and local levels - Rauner/Davis/Harold/Senor signs plastered all over Springfield. - unhinged is the theme of IL governance today.

  18. - wordslinger - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 10:10 pm:

–Why should we even believe he wants to be re-elected?–

All those tens of millions he’s put into it….?

But you raise the point that’s always confused me, as to why he ever wanted the gig in the first place.

My best guess has always been that as a life-time pay-to-pay playa, after dropping all those millions on politicians to support his business, he wanted the Perks and Pomp of being the Big Guy: bodyguards, Navigator carivans, TV spots, etc….

If I had that kind of dough in my Third Act, not my bag, baby.

Gulf of Thailand, Pirate King. With an awesome fortress.

  19. - regnaD kciN - Wednesday, Sep 26, 18 @ 11:21 pm:

Where is Quinnochio when you need him?

  20. - Techie - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 8:20 am:

Rauner is already saying he’s the only one who can save the state. He has a TV ad featuring some “Democratic” woman who campaigned for the Equal Rights Amendment, and is now saying he’s the only one with the “courage” to save our state. Yet she never actually explains what saving our state entails, how Rauner will do it, and why other candidates can’t/won’t.

It’s a pretty desperate and ineffective ad if you ask me.

  21. - the Patriot - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 8:36 am:

One promises tax cuts with no spending cuts, one promises tax hikes without saying who he will tax.

What’s the the other guys name again?

  22. - Maximus - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 8:46 am:

It’s irritating how politicians can lie about anything and not face any penalties for it. Will he be voted out of office for not doing anything he said he would? Yes. It’s not enough of a penalty however. The next guy will be the same way, making promises that are impossible to keep so why say it if it’s just going to make you look dumb?

  23. - wordslinger - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 8:59 am:

–Rauner promises tens of billions of dollars into transportation capital improvements.–

For you youngsters keeping score at home, “tens of billions” means at least $20 billion. Just like “hundreds of companies lined up to relocate” means at least 200.

Looking at the timestamp of the tweet, it occurs to me that Rauner at Knapheide and Trump at the UN presser were both delivering their sober, rational, statesmanlike comments at the exact same moment yesterday.

Proof that the universe is not indifferent. Somebody, Up There, has a real twisted sense of humor.

  24. - Rabid - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 9:07 am:

Four years ago smiling with a sledgehammer, mission accomplished. Drive the wedge strategy

  25. - Duopoly - Thursday, Sep 27, 18 @ 1:24 pm:

==Where is Quinnochio when you need him?==

Of course most disagree with your “need” premise.
